Fan Fiction ❯ It Only Hurts ❯ It Only Hurts When I Run ( Chapter 6 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Kitty ran down the ally trying to deny that she knew why she was running away. It wasn't really Spike's fault, just partially. It was mostly her own fault but the blame was spread to her friends. She had gone outside to take a call and it had been Blu and Puppy, they were sharing the phone. They told her exactly what they thought of her current behavior. To say the least it took a toll on Kitty.

“Oh yeah I'm showing him exactly how much he's hurting me…” Kitty growled to herself as she ran out and into the open a few blocks from the club she and Spike had been at. He wasn't hurting her, she knew that. She was hurting herself, she knew that too.

Kitty quickly took off down the street, winding through people. She wasn't running she was at a walk that people would mistake as a walk that meant she had somewhere to be, they'd actually have to look at her to find out she was distressed. She didn't want to stop, Spike probably knew she was gone by now. It had been about ten minutes if he didn't know then he was one dense demon.

Kitty could tell he was pissed beyond reason. She could feel it, it was pulling at her. Kitty looked around trying to see if she could see him. Spike wasn't anywhere in sight, he must not have been that close.

Within a few minutes tears sprung to Kitty's eyes. She furiously wiped at them and kept walking. Now she was walking slower then before, like now she didn't want to go any farther.

Kitty's stopped outside a little bar and looked at it for a moment. The sign said minors allowed, but no alcohol will be served to anyone under 21. Kitty weighed the options and decided to get something quick to eat and drink.

After sitting down at the bar Kitty ordered a soda and a plate of cheese-fries.

“You okay kid?” The old bartender asked pulling his stool up to her on the other side of the bar. “You look too young to be sitting in a bar with a depressed look.”

“I've had a bad couple of days…” Kitty said turning her straw in circles in the cup and looking at the old man, he looked kind, just the type of guy to be sitting behind a bar and listening to others problems. “Everything's going wrong.”

He nodded solemnly and said, “You've hit a slump, it's understandable.”

“You really don't have to listen to me whine…” Kitty said softly, looking up at the man before take a fry and eating it.

“It's a slow night, if someone wants something they'll say, it's the same crowed tonight.” He said with a smile. “By the way my name's Jim.”

“Kitty.” She said with a nod. “Though if it'd make you more comfortable you can call me by my real name which is Laura.”

“Well Kitty why's everything so wrong?” Jim asked with a smile.

“My friends are mad at me and my…I guess you'd say boyfriend is the cause of it, though I don't blame him for anything. My dad's…uh being a jerk I guess. Also I almost decked the dean of my school.” Kitty listed off her problems.

“So you don't blame your boyfriend, what'd he do?” Jim asked.

“Well really…he came to town is what he did.” Kitty said after eating some fries. “Everything was so together before he came. Now…”

“Everything's complicated.” Jim finished for her.

“And that's not his fault.” Kitty said looking down at her plate. “Not that I've done much to reassure him of this. I kind of ran out on our night out together without telling him.”

“Well that's not good.” Jim said shaking his head at her. “He's probably worried about you.”

“And really pissed off…” Kitty said biting her lip “We both have tempers and odds are by the end of this we'll both end up being mad at each other, for much longer then necessary.”

“You could always go back…” Jim said with a shrug.

“I could…” Kitty mused for a while. “Uh…How much do I owe you?”

“Nothing, it's on the house.” Jim said with a little smile. “So tell me what are you going to do?”

“Take a walk…see where it takes me… Kitty said drinking a little more of her soda and grabbing a few fries before leaving with a smile and a wave before she walked out the door.

After a few minutes the feeling came back. Full force. It seemed that Spike was extremely pissed off now. Kitty fought to keep her mind set on walking ahead. She was going to take a walk before dealing with him, and she wasn't going to let him stop her, when he wasn't even in eye sight.

After a while Kitty turned down an ally and went back behind the building so no one would see her. Now she was hurting. Her head was spinning things weren't focusing well. She leaned her head back and closed her eyes as her vision blurred with tears.

“Did you really think you could fucking get away from me, or were you just testing the waters?” Spike growled at her as he landed with a small thud, the thud being his combat boots hitting the pavement.

Kitty fought her eyes open and glared at him. “Did you just jump from the roof of that building?”

“Yes.” Spike growled punching the wall beside her. “Now answer me damn it!”

“I don't know…” Kitty said resisting the urge to fall to the ground. “I fucking don't know, so don't yell at me!”

Spike growled and stepped back from her. “I'm not exactly sure how I should punish you…I don't think this is enough.” He mused darkly.

“You're not going to touch me!” Kitty yelled only to let out a whimper. “What are…you doing? I can barely stand…and it's getting hard to breath…”

“I'm letting you feel it.” Spike said grabbing a hold of her chin and making her look up at him. “This is exactly what I was feeling when you weren't where you said you would be. When I saw you run as fast as you could away from me!”

“This hurts…” Kitty breathed. “It couldn't have been this bad.”

Spike frowned at her and let go of her chin. “You know how much it hurt when I denied you that first night and said I was leaving? I know you felt that. It hurt so much you begged me to stay.” Spike watched as Kitty's gaze fell to the ground. “Don't tell me it couldn't have hurt me just as much when you actually left.”

Kitty turned her head to the side and bit her lip, holding back a sob. “Make it stop…I'm sorry, ok?”

Spike looked up at her from inspecting his hand which was now slightly bloody from punching the wall so hard. “No, you deserve it.”

“I'm sorry I ran! I'm sorry I took that damned call!” Kitty whined and whimpered. “I'm sorry Spike! I'm so sorry…”

Spike watched her for a moment before turning his head away. “You're not sorry.”

Kitty moved closer to him saying, “I am…” She wrapped her arms around his waist and moved as close as possible to him. “I am…I'm sorry. Please believe me… You don't have to forgive me, or make this pain stop, just believe me.”

Spike kissed the top of her head and held her close. Kitty was a pain sometimes, but after she had said that he didn't have to make it stop or forgive her, he knew that she wasn't trying to get out of her punishment. He made the pain stop right then, and he forgave her. He rubbed her back lightly as she started to whine in her sleep.

“Shh…” Spike whispered to her as he ran his fingers through her hair. “Shh…Kitten…”

The phone started ringing and Spike reached back and grabbed it. After hitting the talk button he answered, “Hello?”

“Is Kitty there?” Puppy squeaked in surprise, not expecting Spike's voice on the other end.

“She's asleep…” Spike sighed. “We went out to a club and we just got back…I was just about to leave…”

“Oh…” Puppy said softly. “Uh could you tell her that I called?”

“Sure I'll tell her for you.” Spike said shortly. “I've got to go. We'll see you in school.”

“Bye.” Puppy got in before Spike hung up.

Spike scowled at the phone before putting it back on the stand. He then pulled Kitty closer resting her head under his chin. He purred a bit when she whined and squirmed. He'd have to ask what was wrong in the morning.
