Prologue

The sound of pounding footsteps slapping against the rain-covered cement split the heavy silence of a narrow alley.
Heavy breathing seemed labored as the young woman’s heart pounded in her ears.
“Help!” She screamed as she came to an abrupt stop.
Dead-end.
“Please, no!” The woman whimpered as she turned around, and found herself face-to-face with a cloaked figure.
Their elongated canines glistened white in the dimly glowing streetlights.
“Shhh…” The figure hissed, stepping close to the woman, pining her between the wall and themselves.
“Please!” She cried, staring up at the figure with pleading eyes that seemed to beg them to let her go.
However, the figure stared back at her with cold, unmerciful eyes as they leaned forwards.
Tears streamed down the young woman’s cheeks as the figures warm breath graced her neck.
Finally, an ear-piercing scream split the heavy, damp air as the figure’s fangs sunk into her neck.
Their gloved hands ran up her arms, before grasping them and pinning them to her side as she started to struggle.
Finally, her screams simmered down to mere whimpers as her shaking hands grasped the figures hood, yanking their hood off with a determination to see the one whom will claim her life.
Black hair graced her bare shoulders, and covered the once visible half of the figure’s face.
When they pulled back, she noticed it was the face of a young, handsome man before her.
His yellow glistening eyes were half lidded as he pulled back to gaze into the brilliant green eyes of the young woman.
His skin was parch white, and his touch was cold as he placed a hand over the puncture wounds on her neck to stem the blood that flowed freely.
Silence fell between the predator and his prey before he whispered softly, using his thumb to trace over her lips gently as he spoke, “This is a sin…”
The woman had fallen silent, tears still streaming down her cheeks freely–and unheeded.
“Wh…wh-what?” She stuttered weakly.
The man just stared down at her, his gaze softening.
After a moment, he leaned down and, before she could turn her head, kissed her gently on the lips.
Her eyes widened in surprise as he took her breath away.
When he pulled away, she started to tremble.
Silence again passed between them, before he took his hand away from her neck–and turned his body and head away from her.
Her neck no longer bled.
“What’s your name?” He asked softly.
“Nicole…” She replied with a weak voice as she moved away from him, pressing her back against the cold, wet brick wall behind her.
“Nicole Yevennes…”
“Nicole…” The man repeated in a whisper, looking back at her.
Nicole felt held by his gaze. She wanted to run, but she couldn’t. it was as if something held her there
The young man, only then, actually took in her features.
Her red hair clung to her face and drifted down about her shoulders.
Her pale complexion brought out her brilliant green eyes. She wore a sleeveless black shirt that clung to the elegant curves of her upper torso. Black pants hugged her hips comfortably and seemed to drape down her legs and grace her black combat boots–that added protection to her feet.
Finally, after taking in her beauty, He turned and started to walk away.
Nicole hesitated for a moment, before stepping forwards, “Wait!” She called after him before he vanished in the shadows.
He stopped just short of the shadow’s safety.
“Yes?” His soft voice seemed to ring in the heavy air.
“What’s your name?” Nicole took another step towards him as he turned to look at her through half lidded eyes.
A smirk slipped onto his face, “That’s for me to know, and you to never find out…You have received the Vampire’s kiss, M’lady…I suggest you go home before I decide to finish what I started…”
Nicole stared at him in surprise. There was something…a certain note in his voice that made her believe he would indeed do what he said–but it also caused her to be drawn to him.
But, before she could even part her thin lips to respond, he stepped back into the shadows–and vanished.
Nicole suddenly found herself alone in the alley. The shadows seemed thicker then normal, and the air was heavy and damp–it was about to rain.
She brought her fingers to her lips, “A Vampire’s kiss…” She whispered. Suddenly, she brought her hand to her neck and winced.
The bite wounds were still there.
Without a seconds thought, Nicole started down the alley at a slow pace, her mind lost to the oblivion of thought as she let her legs carry her absently.
