Fan Fiction ❯ Kiss Me Hard ❯ Denial ( Chapter 11 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Sarah watched the doors close, and everything fell silent.
The heavy blanket submerging her into such deep thought, she could not hear the doors infront of her open.
Nor did she notice.
A man closed the door behind him, his gaze on Sarah.
He frowned slightly.
Even though she wasn't aware of it,
she was crying.
"Sarah?" He whispered softly, coming up to her and placing his hands on her shoulder's gently.
"Lucious." She whispered softly, and quickly threw her arms around him.
She bit her lip, resting her forehead on his chest, before she took a deep breath, and looked up at Lucious.
She pieced it all together. Why her father, Vincent, showed up for the banquet.
Why he was saying he was sorry--
Why he claimed this was the last.
"They're going to kill him."
"Kill who?"
"Vincent Val'core. Please take a stand once more. We would like you to sign this paper, and we will both shake hands and finish this speech once and for all."
Vincent looked up, raising both eyebrows.
Joseph stood at the apodium, looking high and mighty above all his 'minions', whom watched Vincent eagerly.
Joseph's hand rested on a piece of paper which sat on the apodium.
Why the hell were they so happy about this?
Vampires and Slayers will never get along.
"Nor should they unite." He whispered to himself as he stood slowly, running a hand down the front of his tux, and moving his way to the apodium.
"Thank you, Joseph."
"Your welcome, Vincent."
They looked at each other with pure politeness, but it didn't take a genious to see the struggle beneath the fake smiles.
Darius watched Nicole as she spoke with his unlce, Cerebus.
"Shouldn't we do something? I mean, he's at a banquet crawling with slayers. I highly doubt he can get himself out of this one."
Cerebus looked over at his nephew, Darius.
"I have no say in the matter," Cerebus started slowly, "But you can try to convince Darius. I'm only here to speak with my brother. I know he at least will make it out alive. Always has."
Darius shifted his jaw a little. Nicole was right.
Scott may be smart, but at times like this, not even he himself would be able to get out if something should occur.
Blast his father for putting Scott in this situation.
Darius looked at Nicole, whose gaze was pretty well pleading with his own.
He nodded meekly.
"Your right." He said slowly.
"I never felt right about this banquet. The feeling has only gotten worse now that my brother is involved." He turned to Cerebus.
"Uncle," Darius started slowly, moving closer to his uncle.
While Nicole and Cerebus were speaking, Darius had stood up and moved away from the two, lost in thought.
Now he was slowly making his way to Cerebus once more, each step seeming almost daring. As if knowing he had to think of someway to convince his uncle to help."Darius." Cerebus started, but Darius quickly cut him off.
"We're talking about your nephew here." Darius said in a stern voice, his gaze never faltering as he came to the bar counter.
"We need you."
Scott Shifted his weight slightly in his chair as he spotted Lucious leave, and his father return--but no Sarah?
When Vincent stood, Scott quirked both eyebrows, and applauded politely.
When his father took the stands, all fell silent.
He shifted in his chair.
What was his father thinking? This was obviously a lie.
"Hello again, both Slayer and Vampire alike," Vincent began. His voice was almost weak, as if he dearly wished he was not making up this lie.
He fell silent. So did the room.
What the hell was he going to say?
Shifting his jaw, he coughed slightly and looked down at his hands that sat onto the apodium.
Speeches came easily to him. Hell, he was a lord for crying out loud.
So why now did his well run dry?
He looked back up, his eyes scanning the crowd. Looking. Searching. Perhaps for a means of escape? An easy way out?
But, alas, he would get none.
The eyes staring back at him were skeptical. Taunting, even. As if asking for him to just make one mistake.
It was obvious none of them were buying this.
He was trapped. And he knew it.
So did Scott.
Scott managed to muffle a cough as his father's gaze came to rest on him.
They had to get out of here.
But how?
Looking around, Scott noticed the entrances were blocked. There was no way they would walk out the front door.
What kind of cruel amusement was this?
These two were merely for entertainment. Everyone knew no one wanted to call it quits.
The vampires still needed to feed.
If they agreed to find a different source, they would die on their own.
And if they died on their own, then the Slayers would cease to exist.
Scott stood up.
Vincent seemed taken aback by his son standing up.
Attention was brought to Scott.
Scott slowly made his way to his father, then finally came to stand next to him, and leaned forwards, whispering into his ear.
Vincent grinned.
Scott pulled back, his expression was unreadable like a marble statue.
They stared at each other for a moment, before Vincent turned back to the apodium, and Scott stepped away, turning, and approaching the two men who came with them.
He sat down between them, which was where he was seated before.
"It's a trap." Scott whispered.
The men nodded.
"Couldn't be any more obvious." One of the men whispered back.
"They all have eyes on your father. I can tell they're trying their best not to, but it's fricken obvious they would like nothing more then to just shoot him. We need to get out of here. Any plans?"
"Well, the door is taken." Scott muttered, looking around,
"And the windows are too high up. We might be able to scale the walls, but while we are, they have enough time to whip out a gun and shoot us in the back."
The man nodded, and sat up straight.
"What about your brother?" He asked.
"Darius?"
"Mmhm?"
Scott shrugged.
"As far as Darius is concerned, we'll be back in due time."
The man frowned, but Scott patted his shoulder."Ah, don't sweat it. My father will come up with something."
Lucious looked down at Sarah, and sighed.
"I know."
Sarah blinked and looked up at Luciouske, her expression blank, before turning to sudden rage.
"You what?!" She snapped.
"I know. They plan on killing him. I don't know when...Maybe during his speech, I'm not sure. I just over heard them. Sarah, I'm sorry. I didn't know--"
"That he was my father?"
"Right..."
Sarah fell silent, pushing herself away from Lucious.
Her fists were clenched, and her eyes were darting around, as if searching for a solution.
"I have to go back in there--"
"Hello again, Both Slayer and Vampire alike." Her father's voice was heard easily in the reception room.
Sarah looked quickly to the door.
"Do you think they would try something during the final speech?" She whispered.
Lucious shrugged, "I'm not sure. I mean, it would be quite possible...He's on his own up there in the middle of the room. Then again, they might try it after the speech, when he leaves." He raised a hand and ran it through his short hair.
"I honestly don't know. It would be an onslaught if they did it in there. Have faith, Sarah...I'm sure they won't take that risk. Vincent is incredibly close to Joseph. If they tried anything, I can assure you, Joseph would be putting his own health at risk."
"Like I had said before, welcome." Vincent continued.
"As you all know now, me and Joseph have been in meeting the last few months about this treaty. To unite Human's and vampires.."
There was a slight stir in the sea of people, but Vincent continued anyways, giving only a seconds pause.
"I will keep this speech short and sweet, sign the paper, then let you all continue your meal," He looked over to Joseph.
"Joseph. After long consideration, I have decided to finalize my decision."
Joseph frowned. He knew something was up.
"Please come here, and we can both confirm this. For I'm positive we're thinking the same thing."
Joseph paused. Was this some form of...trick?
No. It would be suicide to try this here. His back, face, and sides were covered.
Theres no way he would risk everything on killing him.
Joseph slowly approached the apodium, and Vincent quickly grabbed his arm and pulled him close, slinging said arm over his shoulder and leaning down to the mic.
What the crowd saw were two full grown men trying to act politely.
What they didn't see,
was Vincent slip a knife from the sleeve of his jacket into his hand.
"As I was saying," He paused, and grinned at Joseph.
Suddenly, it clicked in with Joseph. It was just the look in Vincent's eye.
Before he could do anything, Vincent quickly wrapped his hand around Joseph's forehead, and tilted it back slightly, the knife going to his throat.
"I deny."
Practically everyone in the room stood up.
Scott and the two men ran to Vincent.
Cassia, whom was a silent watcher, remained seated.
She had been waiting for some kind of signal. She almost thought she had it before when Vincent stood, but he brought another woman with him, and left, then came back.
She was definately not expecting this.
When Vincent pulled the knife on Joseph, she gasped.
He lied to her. He promised he would give her a warning.
What the hell.
Cassia stood up slowly, and turned, storming out of the room in rage.
She would not stand here and watch.
She walked to the door, and opened it, stepping out in the reception, and paused as she looked at the woman whom had followed Vincent out of the room.
The woman jumped when Cassia entered the reception.
She looked like she was lost in thought.
Now she smiled weakly.
Cassia sighed a little.
"Sorry to startle you." She muttered, before moving past the couple and moving to the doors.
She paused.
"You might want to clear the doors. I have a feeling theres going to be quite the rush in a second."
Sarah blinked, before quickly moving to the doors, and swinging them open, before gasping.
"What in the name of--"
Vincent looked at Joseph, whom was now stiff as a board.
"I will not kill you so long as your Slayers do not shoot at me and my escort," Vincent began.
Joseph's gaze went right to him, and he grinned weakly.
"You won't make it out of this alive.""Maybe not in the long run of things," He whispered harshly in Joseph's ear.
"But I will tonight." He the turned his gaze to the crowd.
"Let us out of here, and I promise, your almighty leader will not be harmed!" Vincent called out.
There was the definate shuffling of feet, and Vincent sighed, applying pressure to the knife a little.
Joseph coughed, and Vincent quirked an eyebrow.
"You tell them. They won't listen to me."
"He speaks the truth," Joseph called out in a slightly weak voice,
"Let him go."
With that, Vincent practically dragged Joseph with him as the group desended from the apodium, and started to make their way to the door; Vincent's knife still pressed to Joseph's throat.
The Slayer's stared at the group menacingly--and if looks could kill, the group would be 6 feet under and well over done.
They reached the door, and Vincent turned, forcing his group to exit into the reception hall ahead of him.
"Thank you for the dinner, Joseph." Vincent whispered.
"Good bye."
With that, he shoved Joseph forwards, grabbed his daughter by the wrist before she could enter the room, and left into the reception hall while the crowd rushed to check on Joseph.
"Father!" Sarah gasped as Vincent yanked her along.
"Your coming with me, Sarah." Vincent said in a stern voice.
"B-But--"Vincent came to a stop the second they left the building, and stood on the stairs.
He turned to Sarah, and sighed.
"I can't..." He began, then faltered, and looked away.
"I don't want to loose you again."
Lucious caught up to the two, and coughed.
"Seems like no one is following us. Odd."
"Odd indeed," Vincent changed the topic, and attention, to Lucious.
"They have something else up their sleeves."
Cassia had exited the reception hall, and now sat on the curb of the street, sighing as the strong wind blew whipped at her mercilessly, as if encouraging her to go back in there.
But she refused. He betrayed her. And she will not stand to see her mistake in trusting him.
She drew her knees to her chest, and bowed her head.
But only for a second, because the second the commotion came to outside, she lifted it again, and looked over.
Scott, the two men, and Vincent came outside, trailed along by the woman and her partner.
She stood slowly.
"They have something else up their sleeves." She heard Vincent mutter gruffly to the man, before turning, and starting down the stairs.
Only when he spotted her did he stop abruptly at the bottom step, and frowned a little.
Cassia's expression was cold, her gaze accusing.
"You betrayed me--" She started, but Vincent cut her off by grabbing her by the wrist and yanking her with him as him and the group started their trek down the side walk to the other side of the building.
"We need a car." Vincent said, looking at the men he brought with him.
"And fast. Ours was driven somewhere, don't have the time to look. What did you guys bring with you?""I have a SUV," Lucious spoke up.Cassia was obviously confused.
"Whats going on?" She asked weakly, being dragged by Vincent.
They turned the corner and started down the side of the building.
"Is it down here?" Vincent asked.
"Yes. I parked it at the back.""Alright--""Vincent Val'core, I demand you answer me right this instant!" Cassia snapped.
Vincent stopped, and turned on her.
"What do you want to know, Ms. Turcotte?" He spoke her name was sarcasm, which just pissed her off more, replacing her confusion.
The group paused, watching the two.
"I want to know what the hell is going on." She demanded.
Vincent sighed, and turned to the group.
"Go on ahead. Get the car. Come and get us." He commanded, and without question, the group started off without them.
He turned to Cassia once they were outside of hearing distance.
"You told me you'd warn me before you did anything--""If your implying that I killed him. I didn't."
"What--?"
"I decided not to." He said simply.
Cassia blinked, staring at him.
"Then why the knife?" She asked in a small voice.

"Oh?" He asked, watching her for a second.
They both fell silent, before Cassia turned her head, adverting her gaze, flustered.
