Part Seven - Homework

I cry myself to sleep each night knowing that I own none of these characters...

Rated PG-13, Robin/Raven and Beast Boy/Jinx pairings. Starfire and Terra with probably get drunk and do something goofy at some point.

The next day dawned bright, though none within Titan's Tower neither noticed nor cared. Sleep the previous night, where it came was restless and unsaticfying, the worst nightmares being of the waking variety. That night and this day, Raven prowled the dim halls for reasons not even she fully understood.

Sunrise brought a sullen, joyless breakfast, then the Titans skattered to the four winds as quick as they could. By 10:00 AM, everyone was where they were most likely to be the rest of the day. Cyborg fled to the shelter of his workshop seeking solace in some pointless busy work or another, and Robin sought to exorcise his demons in the combat simulator. Terra sat trancelike on the sofa watch a DVD of "Bring It On!", as Beast Boy fiddled and fussed with a legal pad, calculator, and used car periodicals.

But it was Starfire, or rather the lack there of that so caught Raven so off guard. It's was painfully obvious that she was making quite the effort to avoid Raven with her own grim wanderings through the tower, but with far more intent and purpose than Raven showed.

Jump Town, exactly as Beast Boy had predicted, was a scab at which each of the Titans picked at in their own way, and she and Starfire's battle for Robin was only adding lemon juice to that wound. Resolutely, she vowed to get some conversation going amongst her team mates. Wandering into the commons, she caught a fleeting glimpse of Starfire as she disappeared down the side hallway.

Settling in between Terra and Beast Boys outstretched legs, Raven laid a reassuring hand on Terra's, "Hey, how ya holding up?" At first Terra looked as though she going to beg off of any conversation, but relented and said, "It's... it's that Kori and I worked so hard to get on the squad, y'know? I mean, when we made it, I thought we'd really earned something. Then... it all turns out to be some sick joke." she laid back on the sofa and seemed to sag a little, "I hope Robin's right. I hope he's dead." she whispered.

Sighing heavily, Raven shrugged and said, "Look, we ALL lost out pretty bad, but I think Cyborg's taking it the hardest. He's the one I feel bad for."

Terra looked confused until Raven said, "He was whole again." Terra nodded, but unconsciously ran a hand across her petite chest, showing that perhaps the pom poms weren't the only thing she missed.

"Hey, could you guys hold it down a bit? I think I just about got this thing nailed down- Oh, hello?" he said into the phone, "Uh yeah, hey. I'm calling about the Mustang. Uh-huh... Uh-huh... Yeah... Uh-huh. And how new are the tires? Uh-huh. Now are you married to this price, cause if you're willing to deal, I'll pay cash today. Uh-huh..."

Terra looked to Raven, "Um... have you talked to Starfire?"

"I want to, I really do. But she's making a point of staying clear of me." said Raven quietly.

"Uh yeah, well... she's kind of ashamed about the whole Robin thing. I think she thinks you're mad at her." said Terra, scratching the back of her neck.

"No way, I'm not mad. Look, just try to get here to talk to me okay?" said Raven, rising to leave.

Nodding absently, Terra went back to her movie and sank back into her torpor.

"And that includes tax and title, right?" said Beast Boy.

------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------

He looked magnificent, but was fast running out of things to break. Robin had been in the fight simulator most of the morning and his frustrations had almost been erased before he saw Raven again and a new gaggle of frustrations replaced the old. The previous evening, as they'd piled out of the Denny's, Cyborg looked at Mammoth and Jinx and said, "Um, hey guys. You need a lift someplace?"

Somewhat stunned by the offer, Mammoth replied, "Uh... oh, well now we don't want to be a bother. Thank ye though."

"It's no bother. Bro, you know me well enough to know that if it was a hassle, I wouldn't offer. Now get your butts in the hummer." laughed Cyborg.

Reluctantly at first, Mammoth and Jinx filled the back seat of his ride.

As Raven was headed for the impromptu clown car, Robin called to her softly, "Hey, looks like the Hummer's filling up fast, wanna just ride home with me?"

Turning, she saw him sitting atop his motorcycle, and the image made her knees weak. Mounting up, she wrapped her arms around his waist and laid her head against his back, and it hit her.

Everything she'd felt for him in Jump Town was still there. The feeling of his muscular back against her, the sweet tang of his sweat, the sound of his heartbeat, all as she remembered it.

He took his time and several scenic detours, but the ride home to the tower was still over with far too quickly. Taking his spare helmet back from her, he spent a while just looking at her. Standing there, her mind was awash in hopeful possibilities, a hundred scenarios in which he ravished her, all with the most minimal resistance on her part.

Take me, she thought. Claim your prize, and then it hit her.

Gently moving his collar to one side, she marveled at the hickey on his neck, the very one she'd placed on him at Victor's dance.

Grinning, he said, "A psychosomatic reaction. Not that unusual, really. Yours is still there too." and checking later, he was right.

Now, he looked at her with an expression that she just couldn't quite place, but she hoped lust was a major component in the mix.

"Hey." she said softly as she walked towards him, trying to look more in control of her feelings than she was capable. He studied her, saying nothing at first, until finally, "How's everyone holding up?"

"Okay, I guess. Except Starfire, I haven't been able to get a hold of her." said Raven as she thought of the two of them riding his bike along a mountain road.

"Hmmm. I'm not that surprised." he said.

"I... asked Terra to try and mediate. Y'know, get her to the table." and she thought of him kissing her as they lounged about on the tower roof, watching the sunset.

"Now that I think of it, she really was the odd girl out in Jump Town, wasn't she?"

"Heh, you tell me, she lived under your roof." and she thought of them showering together, running her soapy hands slowly up his back.

"I don't think the Hatter equipment was made for alien synaptic architecture. It's probably a wonder it was able to integrate her into it as well as it did in the first place." he smiled.
"She was never happy the way the rest of us were, was she?" and she thought of him holding her down, smothering her with his tongue as she wrapped her long legs around him.

"No, not really. Terra was hell on wheels, but Starfire was just her sidekick. Kinda depressing now that I think of it." he furrowed his brow and reached for a towel.
"I know. What about you?" and she thought of them cuddled together apre sex, as she ran soft kisses across his shoulder.

He said nothing for a time, silence apparently being his conversational ready room, then, "You mean aside from the fact that I haven't slept since we got home? That my every waking thought since dinner last night has been you? That I can't even focus on the simplest task without wondering what you're doing? Other than that, I'm fine."

Throwing the towel aside, he approached her, his eyes like two smoldering fires. She gasped as he grabbed her by her wrists and pulled her to him, a thousand of her fantasies realized in an instant.

She tremble in his arms and whispered, "Don't!"

"Why not?" he sighed as he bent to kiss her.

"I... I'm scared." she whispered.

"Me too." he said as their lips met.

His kisses weren't as she remembered them in Jump Town, they were better. He was bigger in real life, and his body had a strange softness overlaying his warriors physique. They kissed forever there, until he pushed her back a step and scooped her up into his arms, she all too willing.

Carrying her over to the wrestling mats, he laid her out and looked at her for a second before resuming their love making. Rolling him on his back, she mounted his midriff and looked down at him with a wicked twinkle in her eye, then bent forward to bring her mouth to his.

As his hand began a slow safari about her, she thought, "You can keep Jump Town, just don't let this be a dream."

------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------

Taking one or two deep breaths, Terra knocked softly at the door to Starfire's bedroom.
"Star honey, it's me." she said hopefully, but no sound came in return.

"Terra." she said, in case there was some confusion.

"I'm alone." and finally the door opened a crack as if to verify her story.

Satisfied, Starfire was already halfway back to her bed by the time Terra was fully in the room. Flopping down onto it, she grabbed a few of the light blankets and made a half hearted attempt to cover herself.

Standing in the awkward silence, Terra moved to the side of the bed and asked, "So, will this thing hold two?"

There was a sigh, then Starfire said softly, "I do not know. It has never had a reason to do so before."

Ouch. Nervously, Terra crawled into the bed and spooned herself around the limp form of her best friend and whispered, "I really think you need to get this out of your system. Wanna talk about it?" It was less a question as an insistence.

Again the sign, then, "Do you believe that we are the same people that we were in Jump Town? "

"Um... well yeah, to a degree. I mean, Robin said these were our idealized selves. Y'know, who we really wanted to be." said Terra, hugging Starfire.

With a choking sob, Starfire opened the floodgates of her sorrow. Half panicked, Terra struggled to calm her, with little obvious result. After a time, her crying began to subside and she spoke softly, "I... I do not want to be that horrible person."

"What?! Kori, what are you talking about ." as she pulled Starfire upright.

"In... in Jump Town, you were kind, and brave and always protected me. But I was jealous and petty and stubborn. You tried many time to show me happiness, but always I ignored it for my own selfish desires. I do not want to be that way! I am not that person!" she cried.

"Okay okay! You don't have to, all right? Let's just consider Jump Town a learning experience. Y'know, maybe now you watch yourself and maybe think a little harder about how you act, right? It's not all or nothing. I think Jump Town means that we can be whatever we want to. Like cheerleaders!" grinned Terra.

Laughing, Starfire hugged her friend and said, "I think you are correct. I shall work to be the better person that I know that I am. And a cheerleader!" she said, returning the grin, then thoughtfully, "I miss my large breasts."

Sighing, Terra said, "Tell me about it."

Fade to black....
