Summary: Sora X Riku It's December and everyone is getting along with everybody except for Riku. Kairi has been hogging Sora around for ages and Riku is getting tired of it. Sora can tell that something is wrong but he never gets a chance to ask for he doesn't want to hurt Kairi. But maybe just maybe one Christmas and one legend of the mistle toe can change that.

Chapter One: Cold Weather and Cold Conflict
"Why would you try to protect him from me?" He questioned and she looked at him.
"You saw what he did. You saw that he became dark and tried to hurt you."
"Yeah but that's behind us now."
"Still, I just wanted you to be safe. Because there will always be darkness and if it were to inhabit him again I wouldn't want you hurt by it."
"Kairi I'll be fine just don't worry." Sora said before pulling her into a hug.
"But I have to worry Sora. Because no one else will." She sobbed in his chest.
"I will." They both turned to see Riku standing before them with a his aqua eyes locked on Kairi.
As the wind swayed and the trees moved along with the steady pattern of the wind, Kairi and Sora were still in each others arms. Riku had appeared and was now standing on the sandy ground beneath him while glaring directly at Kairi. He had his fists clinched at his side, but he didn't move. His turn was already gone and now it was theirs. 'I want to hit her so damn much! Maybe just one punch and a kick into the water won't hurt right?' Riku quickly left the thought behind as he saw that the 'couple' was about to speak up for their actions.
"Riku, don't you come near him!" Kairi yelled and pointed at his face. "You are the reason that all of this happened! You are the reason that Sora disappeared, that the island disappeared, and that everything was being destroyed! You should be punished for your actions, and I still have no idea why you are still on this island with us! For all I know you could still be on the side of the dark trying to come up with some way to turn against us!" She finished off and hastily wiped her tears away.
Sora stood there shocked at all of the accusations that were being made at his best friend. When he looked up he saw Riku glaring even harder than before at Riku. "Kairi, you know that all of that is not true at all Riku was only-"
"Oh so now Riku was only trying to save us?! I don't belive that one bit Sora! You saw what he did to me and what he tried to do to you! Why won't you realize this?! Or are you trying to protect him or something?!" Kairi yelled in protest and Sora sighed.
"Kairi if you would just understand what I'm trying to say, then you wouldn't be doing this!" Sora said and he was about to continue until Riku stepped to his side and shook his head. This was a signal that Riku was going to say his part now.
"First off, you wouldn't understand what happened between me and the darkness because the whole damn time you were in a coma. Second of all, if you were paying attention then you would have seen that I was trying to fight the darkness not merge with it. Lastly if you forgot which I know you didn't you just didn't want to mention it for this is the truth, I helped you close the door to Kingdom Hearts! I even stayed in there and found a way to survive while feeling the pain and wrath of the darkness! But see Kairi you don't know what it is to feel pain! You don't understand the things that me and Sora went through during that time. You only think you do, and you think that I'M CAUSING IT AND I'M NOT!" He finished off and he saw her turn her head and look at the ground while grabbing her necklace.
"Riku don't tell me that I don't know what it is to feel pain because I do! Sitting here watching you on this island everyday scares me! I never know when you could just suddenly be possesed again and terrorize all of us! It's scary when you can't sleep in your own bed at night without worrying that something or anything could happen in an instant!" The red head said determined to win this battle. She had no more tears streaking down her face, only a glare remained.
Sora couldn't take much more of his two friends fighting. This was all they could seem to do now though. Their whole lives they had always gotten along until the darkness came and changed everything. The brunette looked at Kairi and then back to Riku who was at his side. He could see the anger in Riku's eyes grow and grow at every word that Kairi yelled in his face. Soon that anger was going to be released and it was going to be on the person in front of him, Kairi.
"That's not pain that's fear! You have a fear of me being different again. Well you know what I already am different! I was different the day that I came back to this island! And do you know why I'm different?!" He yelled his question out loud and Kairi just stood her ground waiting for his answer. "Because I don't hang around with you that's why! I live my own life my own way and I don't allow YOU to run it!" That all come out in one huff and she put her hand on her hip.
"Well then good for you then!" She said in a taunting tone and Sora was shocked when she said this.
'Did I just hear what I think I just heard?!' He had thoughts now yelling throughout his entire mind and they just continued to get bigger and bigger with each new comment that was being made from Kairi and Riku.
"You know what Kairi, you can do what you want! If you really want Sora so much and you want to protect him from me go ahead! I'm sick and tired of this. Oh and you know what I forgot to give you your birthday present last year, well here it is!" He flicked her off before walking away from the situation before he did anything else more drastic. As he began to power walk he cursed in his mind cause he had wanted to slap her but decided against it. Even as he walked off he didn't even bother to look back at Sora and Kairi.

Meanwhile Kairi just stood there astonished and very shocked. Her eyes started blinking alot while trying to adjust to what just happened. She looked over at Sora who stood there just as shocked as she was. But of course Sora knew exactly what he was going to do. "Sora, I can't believe this is happening! Can you help me get back to the island?" She asked and he stood there looking at her like she was some idiot.
"I might have fallen for your elusiveness before Kairi but this is where it ends! You betrayed me and my friends, and you hurt Riku beyond belief just now! So don't just act like I'm going to sit here and bow down before you once again because it's over! OUR FRIENDSHIP IS GONE! YOU KILLED IT ALL AND YOU HURT RIKU BEYOND BELIEFE! THIS IS OVER!" Sora yelled directly in front of her making sure that it was all loud and clear. He was about to run off in the direction that Riku went until he thought of something that he could tell Riku wanted to do but didn't. With one swift motion Sora pulled back his arm and slapped Kairi's face hard enough to take the skin with it. She fell to the ground while holding her cheeck and she took a glance at Sora who was glaring over her.
"Sora....." A small voice was heard from beneath him as he continued to glare.
"Do me a favor and never mutter my name again!" He spat out before turning on his heel and running off after Riku who seemed to have been farther ahead.
"SORA!!!" Tears started to fall from her face as she sat there in defeat. Kairi had been defeated on her own territory. She felt the wind pass her again and she began to tremble as she cried. As she looked ahead to see Sora now long gone, she looked to her left to see her three friends running to her aid.
"Oh my God Kairi what happened?!" Selphie asked as she slid down beside of her and lifted up her face.
As the red head explained what had happened the three listened closely. They all were taken aback at the ending of the heated argument and they very much astonished too.
"I can't believe that!" Tidus yelled in fury.
"Ya, that's just something that you don't do, ya!" Wakka yelled in fury with Tidus as Selphie continued to console her friend.
Kairi continued to cry until...."I just got an idea." She said and Selphie looked up at her.
"What is it?" The brunette girl asked before Kairi got up.
"I won't be defeated by him. I will win! No one messes with me and gets away with it so this is what we are going to do." She said and the other three huddled close together. They waited for her to speak her plan and she finally did in six words. "We are going to kill Riku."

Sora had finally caught up with Riku who was sitting on his second favorite papou fruit on the island. He bent down to regain his breath but quickly climbed up the hill and jumped from tree to tree until he reached the one to which Riku was sitting on. "Hey." Sitting down he saw Riku look at him surprised.
"Hey, how did you get away this time?" The silver headed one asked and Sora smiled.
"It's over. I told her that she hurt you and then I even slapped her before running off to find you." The brunette said and Riku's eyes went wide.
"You-you slapped her? Wow Sora I never knew that you had it in you." Riku ruffled up Sora's head playfully and Sora laughed.
"Neither did I, but she went way too far." A determined voice replied before he looked down at the ground.
"Not just with me, but with you too Sora. She hurt you by using you." A sound of a light sob directed his attention to Sora who now had tears coming down his face. "Oh Sora please don't cry." Riku asked softly before encasing his friend in a hug.
"I can't believe I let my defenses down enough for her to get so close to me and control me." He said as he leaned in closer to Riku.
"Sora, it's ok to let your guard down with me. I understand everything that has and will ever happen to you and to us." The older boy whispered in his ear with a light touch and he then picked up the sobbing boy and placed him in his lap.
"I know Riku. Thank you." Sora whispered back and felt a soft kiss on his forehead which made him smile.
'I'll protect you from anyone Sora even if it is me.'
