Fan Fiction ❯ Lieffe and Dath ❯ Leaving Home Behind ( Chapter 7 )

It made Soowe happy to see Reepe and Link like that; not worrying about Dath…or anything else, for that matter. Both of them were so carefree. Much unlike Sheik and herself…

But there was her worrying.

She turned around, away from the giggling Reepe and Link, and faced Sheik, who'd been standing silently behind her. His face looked serious. Jerking his head to the side, he motioned for Soowe to follow him down the hall.

Together, they walked to the end of the hall, when Sheik spoke.

"I'm sorry," was all he said.

Soowe stood silent for a moment, expecting him to go on. But he didn't.

"Sorry for what?"

"I…They…We…" pronouns spilt from Sheik's mouth as he searched for the words.

Soowe shook her head, telling him to stop.

"Look, Sheik, I know. We both know."

She took his hands in hers.

"How much longer do you have?" Sheik asked.

"I'm not sure. Not much…"

"Damn."

"I know, Sheik…But can we just not talk about it? I mean, it's…"

"Alright," he agreed, sighing, "let's go."

"Go where?" Soowe asked.

Sheik gripped Soowe's hands tightly.

"Away…Somewhere. Anywhere. I just want to leave this all behind for as long as we can."

"You…you mean run away?"

Sheik nodded.

"Sheik, that's nuts. We can't just pack up and go…"

"Why not?"

"We have to protect Lieffe here until we turn it over to you. That's out job. You know that."

"Sooooooowe…" Sheik stretched the word out, begging.

"Sheik, I-" Soowe's sentence was cut short by a crashing noise from the kitchen.

Soowe, still clutching one of Sheik's hands, jogged to the kitchen, dragging Sheik along with her.

Once again, Soowe peered into the kitchen, only to find Link on the ground, cleaning up something from a dropped pot, smiling up at Reepe.

"It's okay," Reepe said, seeing Sheik and Soowe standing nervously in the doorway. "Link dropped it." She rolled her eyes and Link smiled.

Soowe shook her head, mock-scolding the two, and went away from the door way, Sheik following her.

"ARE YOU SERIOUS?" Reepe said to Link, in shock at his suggestion.

"Well, yeah…I mean, it couldn't hurt to get away from this place. Besides…"

"Besides?" Reepe asked. Link was looking at her face again. He loved the way her emotions changed and showed themselves so clearly on her fair face…Like now…Her eyebrows were pointed and her eyes were narrowed…Her red lips were thin…She was OBVIOUSLY angry with him, but she was so perfect…

"Link, please. I can't just leave here…I've got to stay," she insisted.

"Oh, Reepe. You don't like it here and you know it…I just want us to escape before…Well, y'know," Link tried to persuade her.

"I'd love to get away, Link…But running away? That doesn't seem the least bit childish to you?" <A/N: I actually think that that line is from Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within… And I didn't realize that until 10 minutes after I wrote it…Jeeze. It must be some subconscious thing.>

These words penetrated Link deeply. His solemn blue eyes were locked on hers…The deep pools of gray green suddenly changed shape as the Hylian responded.

"No."

Reepe put her hand on top of one of Link's, resting on his knee and said, "Alright."

"Really?"

"Yes…But we'll have to wait. Just until tonight, when Soowe and Sheik are sleeping…I know they'd have our heads for even thinking about something like this…Sheik especially."

Link smiled, nodded, and bent forward, kissing Reepe gently. Reepe leaned and put her arms around Link's neck…

They fell back on Reepe's bed, kissing and holding each other.

Sheik and Soowe sat in the meditation room, now, both leaned up against a wall. Sheik had his arm over Soowe's shoulder.

"This is all my fault," Soowe said, sound depressed. She began to cry silently, her shoulders shaking slightly. Sheik turned his head to face her and began to wipe away her tears with his hands.

"None of this is your fault," he assured her. "Don't ever tell yourself that."

"But Sheik," Soowe said, her words quavering slightly, "I've already caused you so much pain-"

"No. You made me happy. I just wish it didn't have to end like this…" his voice trailed off. In the back of his mind, he was her dying…Then he realized he'd already seen her die once…He honestly didn't know if her could take it again…And then he would be the new keeper…Lonely and eternally young, while he watched his friends age…and die.

"I won't do it, Soowe," he declared.

"Won't do what?"

"I refuse to become the new keeper," he said forcefully.

"But you have to. You're the chosen one."

"Well, can't you just…pick some one else?"

"No…You've already been chosen."

"Well, can't _I_ pick some one else?"

"You have to be a keeper to do that."

"Then why can't you?"

"You were already chosen."

"It's a paradox.'

"Or something like that."

Soowe snuggled up against Sheik and twirled her hair around her thumb.

Sheik looked at her and kissed her cheek.

"Did I ever tell you how beautiful you are?" he said with a smile.

Soowe blushed and turned her head.

Sheik lowered his voice to a whisper.

"You are. You're perfect Soowe and I love you. I don't know what I would be doing right now if all this hadn't happened, but I do know this. There's no way I could be as happy there as I am right now with you," he told her and a tear fell from his eye.

Soowe was silent. Sheik knew she'd understood…This was her way of telling him the same thing.

But suddenly, she lifted away from him, but turned to him. Sheik did the same. And for a moment, they both sat there in full silence, just staring.

Sheik leaned over quickly and pressed his lips roughly to Soowe's. She pushed back, needing him as much as he needed her. Sheik entwined his fingers in Soowe's hair, kissing her forcefully. Soowe refused to remove her lips from his and they held each other tightly. She held him around his waist and pulled him down on top of her.

Something in Reepe's head told her it was night and she awoke.

She rubbed her eyes and sat up in bed, the covers falling down off of her bare chest. She let her eyes adjust to the darkness, then turned to the body at her side.

"Link…Link, wake up…" she whispered, poking him on the shoulder.

She heard him yawn and slowly he raised his head. Putting the pieces together, he sat up and stretched.

"Is it time already?" he asked, drowsily.

"Mhm," she responded, climbing over him. She stood on the floor and stretched again.

Link whistled at her nude body and she laughed, slapping him gently.

He laughed and said, "I love you, you know."

Reepe, who was now pulling miscellaneous articles of clothing out of her large chest of drawers, responded, "Oh, I know," she turned and winked at him.

Link slid out of bed and picked his clothing up off of the floor and began to put it back on.

Reepe picked out the most casual clothes she owned; a silky white tank top and a seemingly male pair of beige pants. It was always warmish in Hyrule…but then, she didn't know where they were running to…

Reepe and Link stood at the front door. They were both staring at it intently. Reepe's right hand was clutched in Link's left.

"Ready?" he asked her softly.

"Ready," she said, curling her fingers around his.

Link stuck out his free hand and held the door knob, the polished glass chilled under his warm palm. Slowly, he twisted it.

It slid open slowly, and a cool breeze from this night air outside drifted in and blew gently against their faces. Reepe adjusted her backpack.

Link stepped over the threshold delicately, as though the ground would collapse under him. Reepe did the same.

Then, finally, both of them were out in the cool night air, they let the door slam shut behind them and they took off into the night, hand in hand.

Sheik held Soowe's warm body tightly, his right arm around her middle and his left arm hold around her knees, as they were scrunched up to her waist. He was kissing her bare shoulders tenderly, when a sharp noise rang through the house. He jumped slightly.

"Soowe? Did you hear that?" he said.

Soowe nodded gently and touched Sheik's arm.

"Have any clue?"

As to what it was? It sounded like a door…It was probably just Angel tromping around…" she explained.

Sheik made an understanding noise and continued to hold Soowe.

<A/N: The Others (Nichole Kidman) was weird…But I did figure out the whole plot halfway through the movie… GO ME!>

"Sheeeeeeik, I think you should seeee thiiis…" Soowe called loudly from the kitchen.

Sheik, who was dressing in the meditation room, dashed in, still topless <aaaahh…you can tell I'm a teenager.>.

"What am I so desperately needed for that I could not finish dressing?" Sheik asked, crossing his arms over his bare torso.

Soowe handed Sheik a piece of paper she'd plucked off of the kitchen table.

"I think out dear friends may be off getting themselves into some trouble…" she said solemnly.

"What?" Sheik snatched the paper from her hands.

"Just…read it."

Sheik began to read the paper aloud…Kind of.

"Dear us…blah, blah…too much to handle…Dath and all…deeply in love…running away…may not see you aga - Wait. Hold on. Deeply in love? They've known each other for two days!"

Soowe whacked him on the forearm.

"That's not what I was getting at! They've run away, Sheik!" Soowe said, rather perturbed.

"I see this. And not only do I see this, I COMPREHEND this," he responded.

"Don't you think it's queer, though? I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I don't think Reepe would just…LEAVE like that…" Soowe sighed. Sheik put an arm around her.

"Look, I don't know if this is just ME, but don't really think it's anything to worry about…"

"Sheik, I don't how much longer she's got to LIVE," Soowe insisted, "I'm worried."

"Honey…" Sheik muttered, "take it easy. I'm sure they'll be back before the day's end. Link's adventurous, yeah, and not the brightest bulb in the box, sure. But he's not crazy."

~*~

Reepe and Link sat in Hyrule Field. They weren't to far from the castle, but that wasn't where they were going.

Reepe was laying in the grass and Link was just behind her head, playing with her soft, red hair, picking off individual clover flower petals and raining them on her head. <A/N: Yeah, Kas. Just like that. Yes, yes, yes!!>

Link hummed a gentle tune to Reepe, making her smile.

He repositioned himself to lay beside her, grasping her in a loving embrace.

"Link…" she breathed softly.

Not too far away, they could hear the peaceful river from Zora's Domain trickling gently.

"I wonder what Soowe is doing right now…Probably worrying her head off over us," she mumbled.

"Hey," Link said, "this is about us," and he kissed her tenderly.

~*~

Soowe was pacing. Still.

Sheik walked around where ever she went, trying to soothe her with words of "honey" this and "sweetie" that. And even Angel `meeped' at her curiously a few times.

Soowe would have indulged herself thoroughly in this any other time, but the fact that Reepe, her own twin sister, would do something SO immature? It really got beneath her skin.

Sheik waited in the doorway of the sitting room this time, waiting for Soowe to make her 752nd exit today.

Sure enough, Soowe followed the same pattern she had before and without looking up to see if there was an obstruction, she continued to walk - right smack into Sheik.

He held her there as she struggle to get free and resume her pacing regime.

Sheik gave her the `settle down or I will physically force you to settle down' look and she stopped with a determined, heart-felt sigh.

"I can't stand to see you like that," he told her truthfully.

"I'm sorry…" she said.

"Soowe…It's just…I don't know if I've got a few days or hours or minutes left with you…" he said, seriously.

Soowe sighed, clutching him.
