Lunatic Pandora
01: Hard Habit to Break

A few minutes later, everyone had managed to return to the ship, which was unfortunately still grounded. Kitra hovered over Grem, muttering to herself and generally being annoying. Why couldn't she understand that he couldn't work with all these distractions? He shook his head and returned to his work...

"GREM!"

...and promptly smacked his head into the side of the engine's casing. Surprised he hadn't obtained a concussion yet, Grem rubbed his aching head and turned around. "Yes, Kitra?"

"Damnitdamnitdamnit! I'm gonna be soooooooooo dead! The ISPD is gonna have my ass for this! I'm gonna be locked up again, possibly executed for bringing that alien boy here!" she whined, jumping around frenetically and crying at the same time. "Excuse the cliche, but I'm too young to die!" she stopped her jumping and sat down on the floor. "Oh, man...we're so fucked...."

Grem turned back to his work, but continued talking. "We, as a crew, are not fucked. You, as a person, are, Kitra Weidor." Click-CHUNK. "We were not the ones piloting the ship at the time. You were." Click, snap. Grem continued his pace of talking, working, then talking again. "The ISPD won't do anything to us, just to you and the alien boy." Snap, crank, click.

Kitra looked over at him and sniffled. "Heartless bastard."

Grem shrugged. "Not my fault you're a moron." With one final snap, he replaced the engine's casing and turned around. "By the way, we can go now."

Kitra strolled to the ship's bridge wearing a grin. "Computer, please call all necessary personnel to the bridge. And open the captain's log."

"Yes, Captain."

"Captain's Log, Stardate 4-0007-Beta----" she started, thinking of the best way to phrase the day's adventures.

"Wrong universe there, dork." Ralie had appeared out of nowhere and smacked Kitra in the shoulder. "Stardates are for Star Trek, you silly elf. Sooo...are we ready to go? And what's the ISPD doing here? Huh? Huh? Telllllll meeeeeeee!"

Kitra blinked, and then shook her head. Ralie was hyper and expecting a battle, as was normal for her race. Kitra on the other hand wanted nothing other than to fly on her merry way out of the galaxy. She sighed and walked over to Kaen, who was busy inputting some commands at his station. Or at least he was faking it. Kitra walked up behind the taller being and casually leaned an arm on his right shoulder.

"So what's going on, babes?" she said with a grin.

"ISPD's trying to hail us. Want an on-screen?"

"Yeah, go ahead." Kitra shrugged, and walked over to another panel that suddenly flickered into life. After a few seconds, the face of a brown-haired main with no ears and a ridged nose appeared on the screen. He was wearing the typical ISPD uniform; a dark green tunic with silver pins and various awards indicative of his rank. His ebony eyes narrowed at the very familiar person on the other screen.

"Well, Weidor, you finally prove useful for once."

Kitra stood there, momentarily shocked. Huh? She scratched her head. Useful? They weren't after her for crash landing on the dinky blue planet there? "I....of course I did, Captain!" she said mockingly. "Might I ask...what exactly became so useful?"

"You're after...you know, aren't you?" The Captain asked.

"Well, ummm...kinda...sorta..." Kitra replied. What sort of trouble would she be in now? Wait a sec..."You bastards! You were tracking me!"

"But of course, m'dear. Who better than to follow you, one of the most notorious thieves of your time, to, well, you know? You wouldn't have landed there if there wasn't something important. Is it it, Kitra? Is it a clue?" he said with a hint of threat in his voice. "You realize we can't allow you to take that."

"That's SPACE PIRATE, you-" Kitra froze in thought for a minute. "He thinks I'm after the Pandora? Here? Amateur. And here I was, thinking he was gonna clean me out for crashing in unknown territory..." Kitra shook her head for about the thousandth time that day. Then she had an idea. Perfect. "He wants the Pandora, eh? I'll just let him do the talking."

"Of course you can't LET me take the Pandora, Captain. That's too easy. That's why I'm a space pirate. I work covertly. Can't let you guys track my moves, which was decidedly unsuccessful this time." she said sweetly.

"Don't say that name, Weidor! You're still a criminal, and we are still the ISPD." The Captain said with a tone of smugness. "Now, if you will excuse me, we have to deal with this planet here."

Kaen whipped around from his position and turned to Kitra. "'Deal' with the planet? What are they going to do?" he whispered.

Kitra sighed. "Captain, hold on a minute." She turned to her companion and closed her eyes for a minute. "Most likely scenario is that they'll land there, scout for the Pandora, and once they find out it's not there, blast off and destroy it."

"What about the kid we have, then?" Kaen asked.

"We'll deal with that later. Anyway, get ready to hit the engines. Hard." Kitra turned back to the waiting Captain on her screen. "Well, Captain, good luck with your endeavour. Since our stay on the planet was so short, we never really got to search for it! Hit it, Kaen!" Kitra switched the comm-screen off, and watched as the planet faded from view. Close call. She wondered how the hell a man like The Captain had ever gotten such a high rank within the ISPD. The man was dumber than a space slug.

"Sooo...they're after...um....you know...again, Kit. And you. It'd be a cinch if they caught you and claimed that thing at the same time." Kaen said.

"Gee, thanks for that nod of reassurance, Captain Obvious. Call Lunatic Pandora by its proper name. It's not some big bad monster to be feared. My big question is what we're gonna do with this kid. How are we gonna break it to him that his home is probably gone forever? Is he going to be useful to the crew? What about this substance he keeps talking about....that 'weed'?" Kitra retorted. She was so not in the mood for this stress now of all times.

"Can we just go home first?"

---------------------------

The Captain watched Weidor's ship, the Anodyne, leave his forces behind in a cloud of cosmic dust, it seemed. Then it hit him. She and her crew hadn't landed there to search for the Pandora at all. Damn woman. He opened up a channel to all his forces, hoping the ones on the planet would be able to hear him.

"Attention, all ISPD officers! Pull away from the planet immediately! It will be destroyed in five minutes, regardless of whether you're here or NOT!"

After all, it was such a waste to corrupt innocent aliens.

More Woodstock's Notes: As of now, The Captain has no name. I'm so creative. Feel free to suggest one. Updates should be more frequent for a while, because I actually feel like writing this and have a sense of how/where it needs to go. Expect meatier chapters (and more Max!) in the future as well. As always, reviews are my lifeblood. They encourage me to keep writing, so please take the time to leave one. ^.^ Thanks!
Also, don't forget to check my DeviantART account (link in my profile), as I will be posting character art in a while. Stay tuned!
