Hi People, and welcome to my first ever story about and based in Negasis Tokyo. Characters are property of their respected owners, and are portrayed by how I see them in attitude and action. Hope ya like it!
"You comming?"
"Yeah, hold on..."
"Don't give me 'hold on', get away from there. We have importent buisness to deal with..."
"Yes, Mistress.. As you command.."
Nate Chan turned reluctantly from the old toy shoppe's window and followed his Mistress down the street twards the tavern.
"Why do we have to do this, again?" Nate asked as he caught up to Rini.
"Because, I'd like my world rid of that woman before she tries to take it all from me. Would you want another girl bossing you around?" Rini asked. She stopped dead in the middle of the sidewalk and glared up at Nate Chan, then continued on her way.
"No, I dont want another one.. I have enough problems with you!" He laughed, but stopped and swallowed hard when he heard Rini's familliar growls. "You know I'm just playing, Rini Chan. You know I love ya!" Nate raised a hand over her head and ruffled her hair, smilling stupidly.
"I bet ya do... Come on, I know who to ask to hunt her down.. He'll make a great addition to the hunting party." Rini said. She stopped at the door to the tavern and looked at it. "Lets just hope he's here and not drunk already..."
Rini and Nate walked slowly into the door and made there way to the bar, taking their seats on the benches.
"What'll be, M'Lady Darkness?"
"Nothing tonight Gren.. I'm here on buisness only." Rini mummbled.
"Can I have some chocolate Milk?" Nate asked like a big child.
"Do you want cookies with that?" Gendel asked sarcastically.
"Yes, please!" Nate took his chocolate milk and cookies and set to work on them. "Do you see who you're looking for?"
"No, not yet.... But he'll be here. We're a little early, he comes around here at 8pm..." Rini mummbled to herself. She was so busy watching the door that she didnt notice the hands that were slowly wrapping around her neck. When they had a light grip on her, her eyes widened and she gasped, turning fast to see two big yellow eyes in her face. She glared hard into them. "You never stop... Do you?"
"Gotta keep ya on your toes, don't I?" Kelsk laughed mockingly at her. "I hear tell ya looking for hunters..."
"Yes, I need people to kill someone for me.. Why do you bring it up?" Rini said taking another glance at the door.
"You dont think those 'dogs' can catch her.. do you? I know your smarter then that, to hire them of all species..." Kelsk said. He picked up a shot glass and slammed down the blood whisky that was in it.
"What do you mean? They're the best hunters I can find anywhere around here. And like you could do any better of a job then they could." Rini said. She looked over at Nate and sighed.
"I could do a better job then them. They play around and boast too much. I'd get it done before they even got started. Hire me and I'll show you..." Kelsk said. He smiled as well and best as a demon could.
"Fine then.. Who ever brings me her body will get paid. That a deal?" Rini said as she turned and took one of Nate's cookies. She turned twards the door to watch.
"It's a deal, Darklight.. I'll show you how slow those beasts are." Kelsk said as he left the bar.
"Bet ya will Kelskie...." Rini mummbled to herself. She watched Kelsk leave and another figure step into the bar. The figure was tall and covered in a shadow, but you could see how built the person was. Black and silver hair draped down the back of his long black trench coat in a pony tail. As he walked down the main path twards the bar Rini stood and took a few steps twards him. "I've been waiting for you, Wulf.. You know, you do take your sweet time." Rini said sweetly, looking up at his silver blue eyes. She motioned to the bar, "Want a drink?"
Wulf noded and stepped forward. He took a seat between Nate and Rini, looked over to Nate who was preoccupied with his pile of cookie squish. Nate looked up at Wulf and smiled a little childishly, Wulf just glared down at him coldly.
"So, why did you call me down here? Getting down that mountain is getting harder in my old age.." He said in a monotone voice. He picked up his drink and looked at it.
"Kuraguri.." Rini said shortly. "She wants me to die, wants my throne.. So I need her dead as soon as possible. I, myself, will also be after her, but more heads are better 'en one when hunting, ne?" Rini looked to Wulf.
"Thought she was exiled.." Wulf said, taking a sip of his drink.
"What do all exiled creaturs do?"
"True, true.. But why the Saviorai? Why do you need us for this?" Wulf finished his drink in a swift gulp and set the glass down. "Thought you didnt want us around here if it was for hunting reasons..?"
"Well I need hunters.. And your the best I know of." Rini said, attempting to look as if she were in serious trouble.
"I see, well, you know I'll help you, Rini.. Just not sure bout the rest of them.. You know some of them have a grudge on ya.. And will you expect your daughter to help? Will Raylin want his 'baby girl' in this?" Wulf asked. He scooted closer to Rini on the benches.
"If Random wishes to go she may. Raylin will live, the girl has a life of her own.." Rini said. She took a glance at Wulf who was closer then before, then she turned back to her drink.
"If you say so.. I just don't want him to get on my case if he see's his daughter fighting some psycho..." Wulf said, somewhat quietly, looking down at Rini.
"Whatcha whispering about?" Nate asked. He poped his head up between Wulf and Rini smiling innocently.
"None of your ---" Growled Wulf. He was cut short by one of Rini's hands in his mouth's way.
"Kuraguri, the one I want dead.. Thats all, you should know that by now.." Rini said patiently to him.
"Then why are you two soooo close..?" Nate asked tauntingly.
"Because I don't want everybody here to know my life.. Good enough reason?" Rini said under her breath.
"Oh, ok! Can we go now? This place smells funny." Nate whinned.
"You can head back home now if you want to. I'm going to have a few drinks and talk the hunt over with Wulf. I won't be long, ok?" Rini said, stirring her martini.
"Walk me to the door?" Nate asked, looking at her with his 'I need to tell you somthing' look. He stood up and walked with Rini to the door. He looked down at her and sighed. "Rini Chan, be good.. Don't drink too much and don't let him touch you. I trust you'll be good... Please?"
"I promice, Nate Chan.. I'll be home by 11pm the latest. I'll even come right to your room and tuck you in.. ok?" Rini said, taking hold of his hand.
"Good girl.." Nate said quietly. He bent over and kissed her cheek. "Cya later." Nate said, then walked out.
Rini watched him make his way twards the castle through the window. She turned around when she felt someone's hand on her shoulder. She found Wulf standing there behind her looking up twards the mountain.
"Some day you need to come visit Arlea. The view on a clear night is beautiful.. You can see all of Negasis and beyand that from my palace on the summit.." Wulf said, just loud enough for Rini to hear. "Shall I walk you home?"
"Yes, I told Nate Chan I'd be home.." Rini said, opening the door and stepping out.
"When did she start to go after you?" Wulf asked glancing up at the stars.
"About 4 months ago.. I have people on her tail now, but I know they'll need help to get to her." Rini said looking up to her castle in the distance.
"Who do you have out right now?" Wulf asked. He looked down at Rini watching her walk silently.
"Kelsk left earlier, before you came in.. and Tedin went two weeks ago." Rini said, looking up at Wulf.
"You sent a demon like Kelsk to find a shadow? What were you thinking?" Wulf asked with a bit of shock in his voice.
"He wanted to prove that he was a better hunter then any Saviorai, and I wasn't going to argue with him." She mummbled stopping at the gates to her castle.
"So.. All we have to do is catch her, kill her, deliver that body and we get paid?" Wulf asked, opening the gate for Rini.
"Mmhmm.." Rini nodded, looking up at her home. Tall and dark, so big it could easily house the entire city with room to spare.
"Then we'll leave first thing in the morning. Wish me luck.. I'll bring her back." Wulf said. He put his hands together, and when pulling them apart a blue glass rose appeared. He handed it to Rini, took her hand and kissed it. "Good night, Mistress.." He took his wolf form and took off into the forest twards his mountain.
Rini Just stood there, looking at the rose. She looked up at the house again, sighed, then walked through the gates twards the house. She went right to Nate's room when she made it upstairs. Peeking her head into the room she saw him fast asleep with a book on his chest. She walked in, took the book and set it aside, fixed his covers and then sat on the edge of the bed. She sat there watching him sleep for a long, silent moment.
"I behaved, Nate chan.." Rini said very quietly to him. "I'm sorry I couldn't read to you tonight, but I will tomorow, promise. And since shes being hunted, we can go do whatever you want tomorow.." She sat there playing with the edge of the blanket. She looked down at him and watched every move he made. "Sleep well, Nate chan...ai.." She stood up fast and headed for the door silently but stoped when she heard a low mummble. (did he just say -shiteru to me...?) She thought to herself. She left the room and headed for hers. When she got there she got in her black silk nighty and climbed into bed. Laying, looking at the celing, Rini thought to herself, (what if they don't catch her... what will she do to my world....) She rolled over and pulled a picture from under her pillow. It was a picture of her and Nate at the beach. They were children in the picture, about 6 yrs old. They sat in front of a large sand castle in the sun. Sighing, she put the picture back, rolled over again and fell asleep.
"Are you awake? Rini chan, heeelllloooo?"
Rini opened her eyes and was met by two aqua ones. She gasped a little, sat up and saw Nate sitting at the end of her bed in his jeans, all smiley.
"What are you doing up so early and in my bedroom with no shirt?" She demanded in a yawn.
"I made you breakfast!" He smiled. Nate got up and pulled a cart over to the side of the bed. "I made chocolate pancakes and scrammbled eggs for you! And I just took a shower and couldn't find a shirt.."
"Good excuse, and thanks for breakfast." Rini said as she swung her legs over the edge of the bed. She picked up a pancake and took a bite of it with one hand and with the other, let her hair down from the bun it was tied up in.
"You also said we'd do stuff today. Anything I want to do. So eat up and get dressed!" Nate said, smiling childishly.
"You heard what I said last night?!" Rini said, choking on the pancake. She turned and looked at him a little red and surprised.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I? You said we'd do anything I want today." His smile grew more childish.
"That's all you heard?" Rini asked through the coughing.
"You didn't say anything else..." Nate said, getting kind of confused by all the questions.
"Oh.... Ok... Let me get dressed and we can go. Go get a shirt and get ready to go.." Rini said as she got out from her bed. She let Nate out of the room then quickly got dressed and met Nate at the door. "Where to first?" She asked putting on her shoes.
"I wanna go to the toy shoppe! I saved enough money to get the newest toy there." Nate said, jumping around a little.
"As you wish... Let's go." Rini opened the door, took a step out and started to walk but stoped dead in her tracks.
"What's wrong? What's out there?" Nate asked looking over her head. When he saw what she was looking at his smile faded. He wraped his arms around Rini and turned her from what stoped the shopping trip.
"Who did this...?" She whimpered. Her knees went limp and she almost collapsed. She turned and looked again at the body of her pet black stalion, slashed up in the center of the courtyard walk way. Drips of blood trailed twards the gate.
"This is for you, Rini chan." Nate held a stuffed floppy-eared bunny. "I bought it for you instead of getting my toy. Do you like it?"
"Thank you..." Rini said shortly. She took the rabbit and hugged it. "Now where to?"
"I don't really want to go anywhere. And I can tell you still dont feel good. Let's go home and watch TV or sit by the pool." Nate said as he opened the door to the shoppe.
"Are you sure? I said we'd do anything you wanted to.." Rini protested, trying to sound like nothing was bothering her.
"I'm sure. Let's get home and relax a little. Maybe I can cook insted of you tonight.."Nate said with a stupid grin. "Here, I'll carry you home." He bent over and lifted her off the ground then headed down the street twards the castle.
"Rini chan..?"
"Yes, Nate chan.." Rini said looking up from her dinner.
"Do you like your dinner?" Nate asked from behind the candle's dim glow.
"Well.. Seeing as all you know how to make is scrambled eggs, yes.. I do. You even got my toast right this time.." She said quietly.
"Sugar and Cinnamin! All for you... And, Rini chan...?" Nate said, setting his fork down.
"Yes, Nate chan.." She said lowly, setting her chin on her hands watching him.
"Wanna go outside and watch the lights?" Nate said, standing and taking her hand.
"Yeah.. Let me go get some blankets.." Rini turned to go get them but Nate stoped her and turned her twards him.
"I already have it all set up.." He looked down at her and smiled.
"Then... Let's go.." Rini said as she walked with Nate like she was being pulled and didn't care. She followed him to the back courtyard and looked up at the sky, the lights had already begun. She felt Nate lift her up and set her down on the blankets and pillows and lay next to her.
"Here, come closer.. You look cold, I'll keep you warm.." Nate whispered. He put his arm out and let her snuggle up to him.
As the night went on, getting later twards the early morning, they laid there watching the lights change in the sky. Rini had caught Nate looking at her a few times, but paid no attention. Around 3am they finally spoke again...
"Rini chan..."
"Yes, Nate chan..."
"May I say somthing I don't normally say?" He said quietly.
"Yes, say what you want..." Rini said, turning and looking at him.
"Rini chan... The lights make you look pretty.." He said shyly.
"Thank you, Nate chan.." She could see him blushing even in the darkness.
"And.. Rini chan? I have somthing else.." He looked right at her.
"Go ahead.." She watched him struggle for words.
"We've been friends for a long time.. As long as I've been alive I think.. And we've even lived together that long.." Nate mummbled.
"Go on.." Rini said so quiet that it seemed she mouthed it.
"I guess I'm trying to say that I've grown on you a little. Some nights I would get up and watch you sleep, and be there to watch you get up.." Nate stoped and looked at her, looking for any reaction. "That night, the other night.. When you came to my room, after the bar, I was still awake and listening to everything you said.. I even heard what you didn't finish.."
"You were awake..? Nate chan..." Rini said shortly. She kept her eyes locked on him, and felt his hand softly brush over her cheek.
"Rini chan, I care about you alot more then I ever did... And what you did the other night made me make up my mind..." He stoped short and landed a kiss on her lips. He pulled back after a long moment and stared at her with a little fear on his face.
"Nate chan... I couldn't finish because I was worried you wouldn't want it from me.." She said to him, trying to break the eye lock.
"Now you know I do, Rini chan..." He said pulling her close to him. Rini ran her finger's through his hair and kept her eyes on him. Before either of them had any chance to say somthing again they had each other lip-locked in another kiss, this one seemed to last longer then the first.
"Nate chan.. You awake? Hey over there.. Open your eyes now.." Rini said in a peacful tone, unnatural to her regular tone of voice. She sat up and wrapped a blanket around herself then turned and looked down at Nate, fast alseep laying next to her. She brushed some of his messy, long, bangs away from his face. Thoughts of the previous night's events filled her mind. She thought about how she had lived for so long, alone. She relized she was reaching her 3000th birthday, and Nate had been there for about 16 years. She relized that he was the reason she eventually left the castle, the reason she locked up her tower where she had all of her weapons and magic stored, the reason she even smiled. Her thoughts were interupted by the phone. She reached over and picked it up. "Mistress Darklight here.."
"This is Hidden Neko, reporting in with the latest on the hunt for Kuraguri."
"Hey Ry.. What's going on so far? They get their job done?"
"Well, Rini, I've got good and bad news.." Ry said quickly.
"Whats the good news, first..?"
"Good news is that they're all still alive and hunting."
"And the bad..?"
"She's on her way to the castle and none of them are close enough to catch up to her. So get ready for a visit. Who know's what she'll do.." Ry said, like he was trying to warn her of the obvious.
"What do you mean?!" Rini demanded. She stood up from the bed and took a few steps, taking the blanket with her.
"Kuraguri was caught by Tedin and before she some-how got away he managed to get my tracker on her. Everyplace she goes I know where she is. I've been following her for almost a week now. She's nearing the mountains right now, about 5miles from Arlea peak." Ry explained.
"Warn the Saviorai, they may be able to slow her down. I have to go, keep me posted." Rini said, then hung the phone up. She ran to the closet and got dressed faster then she ever had before. She was fixing her hair when Nate finally woke up.
"What's going on, Rini chan..?" He asked, yawning and rubbing his eyes. He stood up, wraping a blanket around his waist. He walked over to her and stood behind her.
"She's comming.." Rini said shortly.
"Who?"
"Kura.."
"What do you mean shes comming? I thought she'd be dead by now.." Nate said, now a little more awake.
"Get your pants on and meet me down stairs." Rini ordered. She dropped the brush on the vanity and ran from the room.
Nate grabbed his pants and got dressed, then chased after her. He caught up with her down in the main hall. He stood and watched her pace the room. She stoped and took off twards the room that he had made her leave. He took off after her. He stood there next to her infront of 2 doors, covered in cobwebs. Rini sighed and waved her hand by the giant lock, the doors creaked open lowly. They both entered the room, Rini went right to work looking around, while Nate stoped and looked at where he was. Rini raised a hand, snaped her fingers and the torches lit up in a burst of black and blue flames. Nate took a step further into the room and tripped on somthing. He looked down and lifted a large dusty book from the floor.
"Rini chan... what's this?" Nate asked, looking the book over, cover to cover.
"You found it!" She ran over and took the book. "This is what I need.." She went to a table and set the book down, then comenced in tearing through the pages, reading franticly. "Nate chan, I need you.."
"How can you think of that at a time like this?" Nate asked.
"Not like that.. I need you to help fight." She said, turning to the book again.
"You know I'll fight for you.." Nate said, taking his place next to her. He looked down at the book, but couldn't understand the writing in it.
"Then go get me that box over there..." Rini said, pointing blindly to a shelf.
"Ok.. What do you need it for?" Nate asked. He got the box and gave it to her.
"I'm giving you back your wings." She said simply, as if there was nothing wrong with wings on a human.
"What wings?" Nate asked, confused, even more then he already was by everything happening.
"I took them from you when I found you.. You were about 4 and were terrorizing my villiage so I removed them from you and I guess you just learned to live without them and forgot about them." Rini explained. She opened the box and pulled out 2 black feathers.
"So that's why the people around here are strange around me.." He said, as it all dawned on him like a great new thing.
"Turn around.. This may hurt, but if you listen and do what I say, it won't last as long.." Rini said, her voice back to its serious tone.
"What are you going to do?" Nate asked. He turned around and took his shirt off.
"Step back the tides of time to when one of the two were found. Bring back the ebony night that alowed him to be in the skies..." Rini mummbled. She lifted the two feathers between her pointer, middle and 3rd fingers. "Bring back the wings once lost long ago..." She rubbed his back softly. "Breath deeply..." She took the feathers and impailed them into his shoulder blades. She took a step back and watched him drop to his knees groaning loudly, holding his chest bent forward on the ground. Rini got to her knees next to him. "Breath ai, it's almost over..."
"I'm trying, it hurts..." Nate moaned under his clenched teeth.
Rini backed up from him and watch as the feathers multiplied and grew into large black wings on his back. She caught Nate as he toppled over twards the floor, passed out. His body went limp in her arms. She rolled him over onto his back, looked down at him sleeping, sighed and hugged him before she set him down on the floor. "Sorry is hurt so much.."
"What happened? Why does my back feel so heavy?" Nate groaned, trying to sit up.
"Finally.. It's been two hours.." Rini smiled when she saw he was awake, let alone alive. "How do you feel? Does anything hurt?"
"Just my back.. What's going on?" Nate said as he finally managed to sit up fully.
"You got your wings back." Rini said quietly. She sat down on a small bench across from Nate and looked at him somewhat seriously.
"Why did you hide my wings..?" Nate asked.
"Because you started to pull and tug at them, ripping the feathers from them. So I kept those two feathers and rid you of the wings. You just forgot over time that you even had them, and lost all memory of what happened to you.." She said in a mummble. She turned her face slightly away from Nate.
"So all this time I've had wings.. And you just had them hidden away? Why give them back to me now?" Nate asked, confused.
"Because you need to help protect me and your home. Kuraguri is heading this way and I wont beable to stop her by myself... And I mind as well just show you somthing I hide on myself.." Rini said. She stepped back into an clear area of the room. She raised a hand up and mummbled a few words to herself. A black aura started to raise up around her, turning into a giant black flame. When the flame started to slowly die out two large demonic wings started to show themselves. As the flame died out completely, Rini stepped out with the wings semi-spread out behind her.
Nate stood there and eyed the wings for a few moments. He looked down at her hand, she opened it and then griped air with it, small bolts of purplish lightning ran down her arm, onto her hand forming a sword's hilt and then a large blade. He looked back up to her face. She was staring at him hard.
"Do you still accept me..?" Rini said quietly. She looked down and turned her face from him.
Nate walked up to her and wraped his arms around her. "It's that evil inside you that makes me like you, Rini Chan.. The wings make no difference to me." Nate whispered to her. "Now smile for me.."
Rini just noded and smiled. "Are you ready to fight?"
"You bet.. Lets go.." He said, smiling back.
They headed twards the main hall when Rini heard voices. She took off and found Ry and Grendle in the enterence room, slammed up and bloody.
"What happened?!" Rini demanded.
"She's in Negasis.." Grendle said.
"Kuraguri is on her way here." Ry said, rubbing some blood off his face.
"Then we have to get ready. Nate Chan, this is what I needed you for. Go and get Wulf, Kelsk and Tedin." Rini ordered.
"What do you mean go get them? They're three days away!" Nate protested.
"Use your wings, duh. You'll find them in like 40minets that way. Now go!"
"I'll have them back in half that time." Nate assured her as he ran out of the castle and was off.
"Ok, we need to get you two fixed up. Lets go before somthing else happens around here." Rini said, leading the 2 men to the small infermery in the back of the castle. She bandaged them up and led them to the living room.
"If she was going to attack she would of by now." Grendle mummbled to himself.
"True, and my laptop isn't picking her up." Ry said, looking up from his mini laptop computer. He looked over to Grendle when he felt a nudge. Grendle was pointing to Rini standing by a window looking out at the sky.
"Hey, Darkness, you ok over there?" Grendle asked.
Rini jumped slightly from her dazed state and noded. "Yes, I'm perfectly fine."
"Hey Rini, can I speak to you for a second?" Ry asked, standing up from the couch.
"yes, sure." Rini turned from the window and followed Ry out to the hallway. "What's up?"
"You. Are you ok?" Ry asked looking concerned.
"Yes, I told you."
"You seemed too cheery dismorning and now your acting differently... Is there somthing you're hiding?" Ry demanded.
"I just don't want him to get hurt.
