~*~Nobody's Home~

A girl walked along a white road. The black of her clothes contrasted sharply against the snow, and bitter wind whipped her tangled hair back behind her. She closed her eyes against the cold, though it didn't bother her anymore. It had once, but it seemed like it had been a long time ago. Various images of a light passed before her, a light that had disappeared long ago.

~"It's okay…I'm sorry, Ashley. I'm sorry."

The girl she was holding was crying hard, tears brought on by a song that reminded her of a love lost but never forgotten.

She stared into the darkness that surrounded them, willing it away. Ashley was her closest and dearest friend, and her own tears began to run down her face, though she gave no voice to them. She never did.~

-I couldn't tell you

Why she felt that way

She felt it every day

And I couldn't help her

I just watched her make

The same mistakes again-

Now tears ran down her cheeks, brought on by the bitter regret and hurt in her heart. The sky was dark now, the light gone. There were no stars out tonight, and the trees were black as the once purple gem that hung around her neck. A silver chain glittered on her ankle, the links broken and twisted. Her tether was gone, and now she roamed the dark freely, seeing it for what it truly was.

-What's wrong what's wrong now

Too many too many problems

Don't know where she belongs

Where she belongs-

~She saw the pain in Ashley's eyes, and saw that there was nothing she could do about it. Not yet. But `not yet' might not be soon enough.

She knew how she felt when she was depressed. But staring into her sister's eyes, she saw what she had somehow missed. For two years…they hadn't been friends then. Not sisters…not really. But something had happened, and suddenly she wasn't quite so alone.

Then the light had disappeared…~

-She wants to go home

But nobody's home

That's where she lies

Broken inside

With no place to go

No place to go

To dry her eyes

Broken inside-

She had tried to give her a place to go, a place to cry. A place that was home. A place to be loved. But it hadn't mattered in the end.

~She walked up to the white coffin, saw the family that mourned her sister. But she really saw them now, for the eternal anchor that had weighted Ashley's heart. And now the weight was gone.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a shadow. But when she turned, there was nothing. Only a single white rose lay on the ground, almost covered with snow.

She bent to pick it up and tucked the flower securely into her black jacket. Without a word to anyone, she walked away.~

-Open your eyes

And look outside

Find the reasons why

You've been rejected

Now you can't find

What you've left behind-

She walks quickly against the snow. A fresh wind beat against her, whipping the chain away. She tried to catch it, but it was already gone. It had followed the light.

-Be strong be strong now

Too many too many problems

Don't know where she belongs

Where she belongs-

Ashley had never gotten what she truly wanted. The girl cried again, tears freezing red on her cheeks. It was fitting, really. Her heart was gone. Why not her blood as well?

-She wants to go home

But nobody's home

That's where she lies

Broken inside

With no place to go

No place to go

To dry her eyes

Broken inside-

She had watched Ashley slowly die, had been able to do nothing to stop it. Her heart had broken, showing only through her eyes as she tried to be strong for her friend. They had lived together for awhile, and nothing had changed.

Red began to pour out on the snow, mingling with frozen tears.

-Her feelings she hides

Her dreams she can't find

She's losing her mind

She's fallin' behind-

How had Ashley managed to hold her dreams so long? All she had been holding was Ashley, nothing else, and it was gone.

The snow turned red around her.

-She can't find her place

She's losin' her faith

She's fallen from grace

She's all over the place-

~"I'm a fallen angel!" Ashley's instant message read.

She had foolishly replied that broken angels were the best, never clouding the world with delusions of happiness. But even broken angels needed happiness sometimes.

Too much had happened to that angel. The gods had stolen her away, damning her charge to the hell of earth. But not for long.~

-She wants to go home

But nobody's home

That's where she lies

Broken inside

With no place to go

No place to go

To dry her eyes

Broken inside-

She didn't shiver anymore. The cold was warm, and the light was back. She smiled as she saw the fields of gold, the sky of blue. The black was white.

-She's lost inside

Lost inside-

~'Would you consider it weird if I said I loved you?' She had instant messaged without thinking.

`No.' was the answer.~

~"I'd follow you anywhere, Ashley. No matter where you go. No matter what. If you die, I die. I'll always follow you.~

Tears came no more from the half-closed grey eyes, and a smile rested on the pale girls' face. The snow was red.

The black slowly faded from the crystal.

A white rose blew on the wind.

-She's lost inside
