One Chance

I sat on the Bridge of the Raven's Chance at stared at the blackness of space. I sighed and wished that I could get my hands untied. This may not be my ship, but damn it, it was my home. Just a little bit… There! As my hands came loose I grabbed the pistol of the officer `guarding' me. Did they really think they could hold me hostage? I mean, come on, was the New Republic really going to pay for a smuggler, let alone me? I have been causing both them and the former empire problems since I was a kid. Hell, `The Raven' was an infamous smuggler, and I just happened to be her. I quickly turned and shot the four pirates holding the bridge. Four. Wow, did they really think we were so pathetic that the Captain, Kath Grey, and I couldn't take them. Well, since Kath was out cold, it had been up to me. So I had done it.
I rushed over to Kath, who was also tied up and quickly untied him. “Kath… Kath, you need to wake up.” I said trying to get him to open his eyes. Just then I heard thumping that was a warning that more pirates were coming to the bridge. “Damn, they must have heard the blaster shots.”
I quickly ran up to the controls and locked the doors. I glanced at the heat scanner, seeing eight more pirates. “Damn, Damn, Damn.” I muttered and ran over to Kath again. “Kath, damn you, wake up!” I quickly slapped him, hoping that would rouse the man. And it worked. “Damn it! Rona! What the hell are you doing!?” He looked around at the blood soaked bridge floor, and then dropped his head, muttered “Damn.”
I looked around the bridge, “Well, Cap. We are the only two left of Raven's crew. There are eight more pirates. What do you suggest we do?”
He sighed, “What have they done so far?”
I laughed, “They said something about ransoming me off to some `Captain Solo'. Someone who is about the rank of a captain in the Republic? What would a captain in the Republic want with me? And isn't he the one married to Leigh Organa?”
Kath shook his head, “I clueless.” At my smirk he glared at my, “Don't get cocky girl.” Then after some contemplation he sighed, “Okay, here's what we're gonna do.”

Crap, they saw me. Kath and I were slowly taking these pirates out one by one. I would lure them to a deserted corridor, and then Kath would blast them while I dodged. I sure as hell thought it was an idiotic plan, but Kath was still Captain. But it doesn't work as well when several of the pirates see me. As I made a mad dash for the corridor Kath was hiding in, I had five of the last pirates on my tail, all five with two blasters, all ten blasters zeroed in on me. Now this was an adrenaline rush. Okay one more right turn.
Kath saw me, but heard the pirates. I did a roll, to get out of Kath's line of fire, and made a grab for my twin blasters on my thighs. I turned and shot as many of the maggot pirates as I could, dropped two, Kath finished off the other three.
I turned to Kath and he smiled at me. Damn, he looked handsome when he did that. He had jet black hair, long eye lashes, green eyes that rivaled any of the Twi'lick's. His well muscled form was covered by a blue shirt, similar to my own tank top, a light brown vest, and dark brown pants and knee high boots. Damn it, it must be the adrenaline talking, because it sure as hell couldn't be me. You don't talk about your captain that way. Did you?
I looked down at my red, blistered wrists and wondered if I was even attractive enough to catch a man's eye. My hair was long brown, with red and lighter highlights. I had blue eyes, nothing unusual about them. My body was muscled, very thin, almost too much so. I wore a blue tank top, blue-black pants, black knee high boots, and my prize possession, my black holsters with my twin blasters. What's a girl with out her blasters anyway? I finally caught my breath and turned to Kath, “So Captain, what do we do with these bodies?” That oughta get my mind off anything… inappropriate.
He shrugged, “Throw `em out the air lock I guess.”
I sighed, “Kath, do you ever wonder what happens to the bodies we just `throw out the airlock'? Don't you think that after enough people doing that, someone's gonna be flying along and `THUNK' they hit a floating, perfectly preserved, dead body?”
Kath just chuckled, “Damn Rona, you have got one hell of an imagination.” He knelt, picking up two of the bodies, “Come one, help me with these bodies.”

As I slumped against the wall, Kath came in groaning. “How much is gone?” I simply asked.
“All of it. They dumped all of the cargo.” Tiredly, he slid down the wall, sitting next to me. “We don't know who they were, what they wanted, how they got here, how the hell they FOUND us, or why they dumped our cargo. This is not a situation I am happy to be in.”
I looked down, “You're wrong on one part.” He looked at me like I had just told him I was a bantha. Question the captain, I've done that, but never ever before openly told him he was wrong. “They wanted me, remember. So, we do know what the wanted, and why they wanted it, ransom. As for the rest, I'm as clueless as you.”
He sat on the empty cargo box next to me and sighed. Leaning his head back against the wall, he muttered, “Rona, Rona, Rona… What the hell have you gotten me into this time…?”
I closed my eyes, “I haven't gotten anyone into anything…” then just passed out.
