About one in the morning, Dutch sleepily walked up to Phoenix, who was still dancing.
"Little bro, lets go home."
Phoenix nodded and went to the bar for his bike helmet. He had stayed sober tonight to get the full feeling from his friends' music. It had been well worth it. The bartender handed the helmet over the bar and said goodnight to him. He nodded and looked around for Cap. He walked over to the Pit and found him still talking with Glitz.
"Hey Capsule. We are taking off now." He looked to Glitz. "You wanna come crash at my place tonight? You and Glitz can continue your convo there."
Cap grinned at Phoenix and accepted the invitation. The night was still young and he wanted to party. He had not been high all night, not even a joint. The thought of getting high with his old friends made his grin widen.
"Yeah. Lets go. I have enuf for everybody to enjoy themselves!" Cap said to Phoenix as he extended a hand to Glitz to help him out of the plush chair he was sitting in. Everyone filed outside, except Fox who was still in the back with his cute green haired guy.
Glitz left with the band in Ryu's car and Cap straddled Phoenix's bike, waiting for him to start it. Phoenix suddenly felt a bit uneasy at the thought of being between his friends' thighs. He had never really thought about it before, but Cap was a really good-looking guy. In the position they were in now, he could feel the cord of muscle in Cap's chest and his groin was pressed against Phoenix's ass. He shifted slightly, trying to move away, but only brought them closer. He frowned.
"Hey man, what you doing rubbing your ass against me like that?" Cap chuckled. "Trying to tell me something?" He teased Phoenix. Phoenix batted his friend lightly on the head.
"Shut up, you perv." He chuckled back. He hadn't told Cap about his real relationship with Score yet, and though they had known each other since childhood, didn't know how he would take it. Phoenix started the engine and revved it up. He leaned forward and lifting his feet off the ground, let off the brake. They tore off down the street towards Phoenix's house, Cap laughing the whole way.
Cap always took Phoenix up on a free ride on his crotch-rocket. He loved Phoenix's bike, and if he had had a license, would have offered to buy it from him. Within a few minutes, they were pulling into the gate behind Phoenix's house. Parking the bike under a large awning, Phoenix locked it up and then locked the gate as they walked around the side of the house to his front door. They walked in just as the others were pulling into the driveway
Glam immediately attacked Dutch and dragged him off to their bedroom chastising him about how he knew how much their gigs turned her on and he had made her wait anyhow. Glitz laughed at the display the two made. His sister was flushed with arousal and anger, Dutch on the other hand was grinning widely at her as she drug him by his pant loop through the doorway.
Cap looked at them with mild amusement. He sat on the futon and sighed. He would have liked to have gotten laid tonight too, but things don't always work out that way, he thought. Glitz returned from his apartment with some beer and they all sat down and started talking. Ryu sat a little to the side and drank with them. Phoenix had brought out another bottle of Tequila and was preparing to take a shot.
"Here, have some of this with it," Cap said as he handed Phoenix his favorite drug. Phoenix grinned widely at him and popped it into his mouth as he took the shot. Ryu joined them long enough to take a shot and hotline some H. After a bit, they were all high and joking around so loudly that the noises from the couple next door were drowned out.
They talked about the concert and Graffiti and anything else that came to mind. Phoenix was feeling really good, but his loneliness came back as he reached for Score and remembered that he wasn't there.
Glitz frowned. "You miss Score don't you?" He asked at the expression on Phoenix's face. Cap looked questionably at him as he took a shot.
Phoenix nodded, then grinned as he realized that he wasn't alone, he was with friends. Cap leaned forward and looked into Phoenix's eyes.
"He's your boyfriend isn't he?" Cap said surprised. Phoenix blushed.
"I wasn't sure how you would take it and you normally never would have asked."
"Hey man, it's alright. Just cuz I don't do it, doesn't mean you shouldn't if its what you want." Cap grinned at him and winked.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The high hit them all hard about an hour later. They lay on the floor staring at the ceiling, passing a joint amongst them. Lethargic and heavy, Phoenix realized that there were bodies pressed lightly against his. He turned to the side to see Cap on one side of him, Ryu on the other. They were all lying in a line, sides pressed together, staring at the ceiling he realized. The realization made him laugh at its stupidity. He coughed the smoke from his lungs and doubled over in a fit of giggles.
He heard a gasp and he opened his eyes. Ice blue stared back at him not even an inch away. Phoenix's eyes widened as he realized that he had almost rolled right over the top of Ryu in his fit of giggles. He saw himself reflected in the ice of Ryu's gaze and was momentarily lost in their depths.
Ryu could feel Phoenix's breath on his lips. He wanted so badly to grab him and hold on forever. <Damn Score!> he thought angrily. Phoenix turned away then, rolling to his back to stare once again at the ceiling. This angered Ryu more and he reached out and grabbed Phoenix by the collar and pulled his lips hard against his. He bit Phoenix's lip and lapped at the cut he created.
Phoenix went rigid with shock. Ryu was kissing him he realized, and not just any kiss, a hard, almost cruel kiss. He winced as his lip was tore open. Ryu sucked it into his mouth and lapped at the blood. Phoenix put his palms against Ryu's chest, meaning to push him away, but Ryu's free hand grabbed them hard and pressed them over his head as he rolled Phoenix onto his back. Phoenix began to struggle. He didn't want Ryu to be doing this to him, he wanted Score to take him, to taste his blood, to claim his body.
Ryu growled low in his throat, the storm in his head blinded him. He pressed himself between Phoenix's legs and set himself almost gently against Phoenix's hips. Phoenix's struggles brought their hips together hard several times and Ryu groaned against Phoenix's throat.
Phoenix was panicking. He was extremely high, sure, but he knew that he didn't want this. His voice was rough and deep as he said; "Get off of me!" With one final buck of his hips, he sent Ryu awkwardly to the floor beside him. He panted heavily as Ryu let go of his hands.
Ryu stood and walked without a word to the wall scroll covering his exit. He left without a backward glance.
Phoenix almost sighed with relief. Had Ryu been planning to rape him, or was it just a fluke caused by his high? He looked to Cap and Glitz who were both too high to notice what had happened. Phoenix stood slowly and locked the connecting door that led to the other apartment. Glitz could sleep on his bed, but Phoenix was not going to unlock that door for anything until morning.
He sat back on the floor beside his two friends. They lazily looked up at him and Glitz grinned. He sat up and placed a hand on Phoenix's chest, leaning forward to kiss him. Phoenix kissed him back as Cap watched.
Cap felt a twinge in his groin as he watched the two men kiss. The kiss was almost innocent. It was not sexual, but nonetheless passionate. Phoenix set Glitz's hands on Cap's chest and pulled from the kiss.
"You two can have my bed." He said, licking his lips. Glitz nodded and stood. The thought of sleeping next to Cap was almost too much for him to bear, especially since he knew nothing would happen. The two men headed towards Phoenix's room as he turned out the lights and lay down on the couch.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Phoenix woke in the early afternoon. The sun was gone and the sky was covered in dark rain clouds. The rain pelted against the roof, making noise just to annoy him, he was sure. He groaned and rolled over, putting his back to the offensive sound. Not being able to get back to sleep, he groaned again and headed for his bedroom.
He opened the door slowly, intending to sneak in quietly. What he saw surprised him as well as warmed his heart. Lying in the middle of his bed, on top of the comforter, were Glitz and Cap. Cap was on his back, one arm thrown over his eyes, the other wrapped around Glitz. Glitz was snuggled to his chest, snoring softly. It didn't look as if anything had happened, but Phoenix knew how Glitz felt about Cap, even though he had never said anything to him.
Phoenix snuck across the room to his dresser to get some clothes intent on a shower.
"I'm awake." He heard Cap whisper. Phoenix looked at him surprised that even though the straight man was awake, he still held Glitz. Cap sighed. "Nothing happened, if that's what you're thinking, I woke up like this. It feels nice to just wake up next to someone."
Phoenix smiled; he knew the feeling well because of Score. He nodded and left the room.
After a hot shower, he went to the kitchen to make breakfast. No one else was awake yet, so he just had a bowl of cereal. He was setting his bowl in the sink when he heard a loud knock at the front door. Phoenix frowned and went to the door. Through the peephole, he saw nothing. Annoyed he threw the door open. What he saw made the color in his face drain to white. He caught Score as he fell through the doorway.
"Cap!!!" He yelled over his shoulder.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Phoenix struggled with Score's weight. He was bloody and his body was like dead weight in Phoenix's arms.
"Cap! Somebody!"
Cap came running out of the bedroom with a crash. "What the-?"
He ran up to Phoenix and helped him lift Score from the floor. They carried him into the bedroom where Glitz was looking at them sleepily.
"What's going on Phoenix?" He asked as he stretched. He grunted as Score was dropped onto the bed next to him. "What the fuck happened to Score?" he asked wildly, suddenly wide-awake.
"I don't know, go get Dutch!" Phoenix yelled at him in a panic. Score looked really bad. His arm lay at an unnatural angle beside him and his face was swollen and bloody. His left eye was swollen shut and his jaw was lined with bruises. Phoenix ran out of the room and grabbed the first aid kit, not sure of how much good it would do.
When he returned, Cap had rearranged Score's arm so it lay next to him on the bed. He had removed Score's shirt to reveal several stab wounds and welts from what looked like a bicycle chain. Phoenix groaned. <What happened to you? > He thought desperately as he sat next to Score and started to look him over. The bleeding had slowed down, but it was nonetheless still flowing. He grabbed the pillowcase and bundling it up in his hands, pressed it to the wound that was bleeding the most. Cap took some supplies out of the first-aid kit and started cleaning Score's face.
Phoenix felt as if he was going to start crying. <Who did this to you, Score? Why? > Angry tears escaped his eyes. He didn't bother to wipe them away; instead he added more pressure to the wound. Suddenly a feeling of dread washed over him. What if Score was already dead? In his panic, Phoenix hadn't even checked for a pulse or to see if Score was still breathing. He leaned forward and set his ear against Score's chest. Faint sounds of gurgling could be heard. Phoenix frowned. They couldn't help him here, he needed a hospital. He checked his pulse; it was weak, but still there. Phoenix sighed in relief.
Dutch ran into the room and slid against the carpet, slamming into the wall in his haste, Glam, Glitz and Fox followed close behind. "What the fuck happened!?"
"We don't know. It sounds like he has blood in his lungs and I can't stop the bleeding! We need to get him to a hospital!" Phoenix screamed. He was so scared that he would loose Score that nothing else mattered.
"N-no," they heard Score whisper.
Everyone looked in surprise towards him.
"Will find me…there. No hospital." Score began coughing and blood flew and splattered across Phoenix's face. He sighed heavily and struggled for breath. Phoenix helped him turn to his side, hoping it would help him breath better.
"But if we don't get you to a hospital…"Phoenix let the sentence go unfinished. He was afraid to voice what he knew was true.
"I know!" Dutch suddenly said, startling everyone in the room. "We can take him to the hospital Rhayne is at! No one will find him there! Who ever they are will be most likely looking in the public hospitals."
"Will you let us take you there? Please?" Phoenix asked Score.
"Hai, mai herutsu." Score said as he nodded. The movements made him wince, Phoenix flinched.
"I will find who ever did this to you and kill them, I swear!" Phoenix whispered, but Score didn't hear him, he had passed out.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Ryu leaned against the doorframe of the door connecting the apartments. He couldn't be seen as he peeked around the wall scroll at the small crowd scrambling to get Score out of the house and into the van. He smirked to himself. This was working out great, even without his plans. <Perfect. > He thought as he turned and went back to his room.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
They had hastily piled in to Glitz's van. Phoenix sat on the floor in the back with Score cradled in his arms. Phoenix couldn't stop the tears from running down his face. He wanted to make sure Score was okay, but at the same time, he wanted to be out hunting down the bastard who had done this to his lover.
Score still had not woken up when they reached the hospital. His breathing had become shallower and his chest made sickening gurgling sounds. Dutch ran into the hospital and frantically looked for a doctor. The hospital did not have an emergency room; everyone who came in had an appointment or was referred by a private doctor.
Running to the front desk, he looked at the woman nametag and said: "Frieda, we need a doctor now! There is a young man in the van outside that may be choking to death on his own blood! Please, find us a doctor."
"Micah, how good to see you again." She said pleasantly, ignoring his demands. "You should know by now how this hospital is run. We don't take riff raff off the streets." She gasped and turned white as Dutch did something very unlike himself. He grabbed the front of her uniform, tearing the collar and pulled her out of the chair.
He dragged her outside and shoved her towards the open doors of the van.
"Take a look bitch! You want our money to leave this hospital? That's right, you don't treat our friend and we take Rhayne Dracon to another hospital! Got it?" He asked as he shoved her face almost within a breath of Score's.
The young woman retched dryly as the smell of blood and sweat hit her nostrils. She knew that if she didn't admit them and they took the Dracon account, she would loose her job. She quickly nodded her head, covering her mouth and nose with her hands. Dutch let her go with a toss of his arm.
"Good. Find us a fucking doctor! Now!" He said again as she sat on the ground staring at them. She scrambled to her feet and ran into the hospital. In any other situation, Fox would have made a lewd comment about how as she had scrambled away, her little skirt had hiked up above her ass to show she wore a thong, but today he hadn't even noticed.
Dutch helped Phoenix carry Score into the hospital, a small trail of blood behind them. Glam was crying in her brother's arms as a doctor walked into the waiting room.
"Now see here-" he began. Then he recognized Dutch and Phoenix. He looked at the young man in his arms. "This way," He said as he led them through a set of double doors. They laid Score on a gurney and the doctor rushed him down the hallway with two techs right behind him. Phoenix ran after them.
"What happened Sage?"
"I-I don't know, he came home and he was like this. He hasn't said anything. He passed out soon after we got him into the house."
The doctor nodded and they entered an operating room. The doctor did a quick once over on Score, then instructed the techs to bring in various equipment. He looked at Phoenix.
"You'll have to wait outside. There is a private room you can rest in and get cleaned up."
"But-"
"No buts, we need to help this boy as soon as possible, you'll only be in the way, Sage. What's his name?"
"Score." Phoenix whispered. The doctor frowned.
"His real name, Sage." He knew how the kids on the street kept nicknames to protect themselves.
Phoenix shook his head.
"Fine now go."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Phoenix sat in the room the nurse had showed him and ran his hands through his hair. He began to cry again as he looked at Score's blood on his hands. He was covered in Score's blood he realized. He looked at himself in the mirror. He was pale, dark lines of worry were stretched across his face. Blood was smudged on his cheeks and arms. <Score's blood. > He thought again. He fell to the floor as violent sobs racked his body.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Hours later, Phoenix joined the others in the waiting room. His clothes were still covered, but he had washed the blood off his face and hands. Everyone stood and rushed to him as he entered the room. They hugged him and said things to console him.
"What's going on in there?" Fox asked as he frowned.
"They say that Score was in some sort of fight." Fox snorted. Phoenix looked at the floor as he continued, fighting back his tears. "He has 6 stab wounds to the upper body, and some internal bleeding. His arm is broken in 3 places and he has a fractured collarbone. Some sort of chain caused the welts across his throat and chest, but it only bruised his larynx. Besides that, the doctor says he's fine. "
Everyone stood silently for a moment. Then Fox started yelling at the top of his lungs:
"Fine! They call that fine? What kind of a crackpot doctor is this guy?"
"At least he's not going to die," Phoenix said softly as a tear ran down his cheek. Fox shut up and put his arms around Phoenix.
"I'm sorry, I just am upset. I didn't mean to upset you more."
"Where is he now, Phoenix?" Glam asked softly, putting her hand on his shoulder.
"He is still in the operating room, they are trying to take care of his internal injuries and reset his arm."
Phoenix sat down heavily on one of the oversized chairs. He sighed and closed his eyes. <What will I do without Score? It wasn't right to lie to them like that. Maybe I am really lying to myself? > Phoenix thought. Phoenix knew the truth. The doctor had told him. If Score was going to live, then it would be a miracle. The internal bleeding was getting out of hand and without surgery, he would die. Phoenix choked as the tears returned.
"Sage Dracon?"
Phoenix opened his eyes and looked towards the voice. A young woman about his age stood there with a clipboard hugged tightly to her chest. She looked uncomfortable. Phoenix wasn't sure what to think, he took a deep breath and nodded as he stood.
"Can you please come with me? There are a few things that need to be taken care of before Mr.-" She looked at her clipboard. "Hmm says only Hajiri." She looked up at him with a tilt of her head.
"Score." Phoenix said simply as he followed her out of the room.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
She led him to a room with a desk and computer, a few chairs sat in front of the desk. She sat behind the desk and started typing on the keyboard.
"Okay Mr. Dracon."
"Please, call me Phoenix." She nodded and started again.
"Phoenix, there is some paperwork that needs to be straightened out. Hajiri-Score," she said as Phoenix opened his mouth to correct her. Hajiri didn't sound right coming from someone else's mouth. If that was his real name, then he wanted to hear Score say it, not some stranger. "Will have to be admitted. He will need to be under constant supervision in the ICU."
She looked intently at Phoenix, trying to gauge his reaction. She had only been doing this for a short while, but she had realized fairly quickly that there were mainly two reactions-rage and completely breaking down. Phoenix looked blankly at her. <He was going to live? > He thought.
"You mean? H-he's okay? He's going to live?" Phoenix asked quietly. The girl nodded her head.
"There is still a chance that things may go the other way, he is not out of the woods by far," She said. "I know this is never a good time, but we need to get this paperwork done so we can get him out of recovery and into the ICU." She turned back to the computer as there was a knock at the door. "Enter."
"Are you Sage Dracon?"
"Yes."
"Here are the young mans personal belongings. We looked through his wallet and found his name Allina. Here is his drivers' license for verification." A gray haired woman walked into the room and handed a bag to Phoenix and a card to the girl named Allina.
"Thank you," Allina said.
She looked at it and began typing on the keyboard again as she talked to herself.
"Canadian driver's license, Nova Scotia. Hajiri Thorne. Age 23, date of birth, October 31. Hair, white? He has white hair?" She asked looking at Phoenix. He only nodded. He wished she would shut up and just get this over with. He wanted to see Score.
He numbingly answered her questions and sighed gratefully as she thanked him and led him to the recovery room.
Score was bandaged up and if it weren't for the bruises and cuts, would have looked almost normal. He held the large bag the woman had given him tightly to his chest. He sat down beside the bed and held Score's hand, waiting for them to move him to his room.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The hours had passed by slowly. Dutch was allowed to come in to talk to Phoenix, but not see Score.
"We have to go now, little bro. Its time to get ready for the concert." Dutch said softly as he hugged his brother. Phoenix nodded and hugged him back. "We will be back tomorrow."
With that, Dutch left Phoenix alone. Phoenix watched as his brothers solemn form disappeared behind a corner. He sighed and turned to go back just as they were bringing Score out of the recovery room.
"Where are you taking him? I want to stay with him."
"There are no overnight visitors allowed in the ICU. You will have to wait at home." The nurse said.
"I will not leave him! What if he wakes up? I have to be here when he wakes up!" Phoenix said desperate, growing angry.
"I'm sorry sir, those are our rules. Go talk to his doctor." She indicated the room behind her and they continued down the hall.
Phoenix rushed back to the recovery room and found the doctor.
"Doc, you have to let me stay with him! I cant let him be alone!"
The doctor looked at him for a long moment then sighing, said; "I'm sorry, no one is allowed in the ICU."
Phoenix started yelling at him, growing ever more hysterical. "You don't understand! I have to be there when he wakes up! Someone will be looking for him! NO! I have to protect him!" He cried as two security guards rushed in and grabbed him. The doctor said something to a nurse and she came back with a syringe.
"It's okay Sage, you'll be here when he wakes up, and we will protect you both."
He struggled against the two men holding him down on the floor, but to no avail. Phoenix felt a sting in his arm as the needle was pushed into the soft flesh of his inner elbow.
"No," he moaned as the room began to spin and grow fuzzy. His body went limp as he fell unconscious.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
**Tick tack tick tack tick tack**
Footsteps echoed down the hallway. Phoenix hid in the back of a large closet. He knew who was coming and he was afraid, very afraid. He knew of the pain that the hands would inflict, the torture the mouth grinned at. He whimpered softly in the darkness and hoped that maybe just this once, he wouldn't be found. But he was always found. No matter where he hid, he was always found. The hands shot out from the darkness and caught him in a blindingly painful grip. The flesh of his upper arms bruised at the pressure. He cried out in horror.
Then he was in a large room, tied down to a chair. His mother sat on a couch in the corner, shooting up as his father walked around him in predatory circles.
"Where is Micah hiding, Sage? Come on, you can tell Daddy, I wont hurt you if you tell me." His mouth curved into a sadistic grin. Phoenix whimpered again and looked imploringly at his mother. She smiled the smile of the ignorant.
"Play with your father dear, mommy is busy," She said as she slid down further into the couch. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she began to stretch and purr like a cat. Sharp blows to his head made his mother swim in and out of his vision.
"Where is your brother!" His father yelled at him. He took Phoenix's face in his hand and roughly jerked it so Phoenix had no choice but to look at him. The boy looked at his father with tears in his eyes and shook his head.
"I-I don't know Father." He said quietly.
Father backhanded him hard enough that the chair flew to the side and crashed to the floor. Phoenix smiled as the room faded and turned to black.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Phoenix awoke with a scream. He bolted upright in the bed and looked frantically around him. <Where am I? > He thought desperately. Then he remembered. The hospital. They had sedated him and kept him here obviously for hysteria. He pulled off the covers and swung his legs over the side of the bed and stood. His head began to swim and he sat heavily back down. A nurse's aid came running into the room.
"Mr. Dracon!" She said as she reached the bed and caught him before he fell backwards. "You shouldn't be getting up yet, the doctor is on his way in. You have to wait for the effects of the sedatives to wear off."
He waved his hand at her in dismissal. "How long have I been out?" He asked as he held his head.
"Since before I came in last night at seven." She said. "You were brought in during night shift the day before yesterday."
"The day before yesterday!" He yelled at her as he tried to stand again.
"Phoenix, calm down, your friend is fine, I have come to discharge you as soon as you feel up to it and we will take you to see Mr. Thorne." The doctor said as he walked in. "He was transferred to the fourth floor this morning, he's fine, he has a lot of recovering to do, but he'll make it."
"What time is it?" Phoenix asked as he looked around the room. The room was beginning to settle down. It was getting easier to move his head without feeling dizzy.
"It is 6am on Monday morning."
Phoenix's head reeled again at the sudden realization of what the doctor had just said. <Score's okay. > He thought as the tears threatened to overcome him again. He wiped them away stubbornly and looked at the doctor.
"Take me to him, I'm fine now."
