Happiness vs. Loneliness
Â
He didn't realize that he actually fell into a peaceful slumber until he heard the door shut and laughter fill the once quiet home. Leisurely opening his jade orbs, his vision was blurred as he could only make out the silver tresses of a figure rounding the corner into the living room where he was mutely waking up. Rubbing his tired eyes, Riku let out an elongated yawn and he stretched his tired limbs, casting a hand through his silver locks.
“So you are finally awake…”
Riku jolted up and finally noticed his uncle gazing at him with an amused smirk. His eyes narrowed to mere slits and Riku averted his gaze away, wanting his uncle (or he should say, `the devil') to disappear.
“What do you want?” Riku questioned grouchily, continuing to glare at the man who would make his life a living hell. “Do you want to ruin my life anymore than you already have?”
“Someone seems cranky…” Sephiroth commented and he grabbed a seat opposite of Riku “How have I ruined your life this time?”
“Why with the prep?!” Riku growled, crossing his arms in a childish pout, causing Sephiroth to smile. “I don't need any manners…”
“Uh-huh…” Sephiroth leaned back into his chair, which leaned with him; Riku desired to shove him to the ground. Sighing, Riku closed his eyes and shook his head. His uncle was so…bothersome…
“I have my reasons…” Sephiroth crossed his arms and impassively glanced at his only nephew. “You'll thank me later…”
“Where are mom and dad?” Steering away from the subject, Riku continued to glare at his uncle, who shrugged and joined his hands together in his lap.
“They are upstairs changing from their work attire.” Monotonously, Sephiroth closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. The silence in the room was slightly uncanny since in the past this house was filled with laughter and smiles. Now…it was so different.
Both silver-haired men listened to the pattering of footsteps as Riku's mother and father appeared from around the corner. Both had cheerful smiles on their faces and Riku glanced over toward them and mentally gagged. Peppy parents…disgusting…
“Sephiroth! I'm so glad you could stay for dinner!” Riku's mother, Gin ambled over and giggled, her baby blue orbs gleaming with excitement. Riku felt his eye twitch as his mother bent down and kissed both of Sephiroth's cheeks, her dirty blond hair falling to the side to reveal the side of her face to Riku and while she was pulling away, Riku rolled his eyes and turned away. His arms almost crossed habitably as he quivered with disgust.
Why can't I have normal parents? Even rich boy's parents are probably better…
“Now Gin speaking of dinner…what are we actually having?” Hiroshi, Riku's father grinned and he cast a tan hand through short light blond hair. His jade eyes gleamed with hunger and Riku shuddered.
Why me?!
“How was your day Riku-Riku?” His mother asked in a sing-song voice and she smiled turning her attention to her only son. “I bet it was wonderful, right?”
“Actually-” Sephiroth began, but was cut off by Hiroshi.
“Yes! Our perfect little angel!” Hiroshi walked over and patted his son's arm, frowning as he felt sticky stuff on his son's shirt. “Son? Why are your clothes sticky?”
Riku, wide-eyed mentally slapped himself for forgetting about the food fight. Why couldn't he just remember to change clothes?! Why?!
“Riku and some other students were having a food fight this afternoon.” Sephiroth informed them and Riku scowled at his uncle. Why did he have to be such a big mouth?
“More like the whole cafeteria…” Riku mumbled and Gin turned to her brother-in-law tilting her head to the side.
“But Sephiroth…Riku would never…” Frowning, Gin glanced back to Riku and her eyes began to tear. “My baby…he wouldn't…”
They act like I fucked somebody and got them pregnant…ugh…parents are so overdramatic. Anyway, I wouldn't get anyone pregnant…I'm becoming gay…hehe…it's funny how I really don't care…
“Is this true, son?” Hiroshi crossed his tan arms and sternly glared at his son.
“Yeah.” Riku shrugged and stood. “I'll go get changed and-”
“NO!” Screeching, Gin pushed Riku back on the couch and pointed at her son. “Now Riku…we need to have another little talk…”
Are you talking about the sex talk or the routine `be-a-good-boy' talk? I'drather hear about sex…
“But mom…” Riku whined, hoping that he could persuade his parents to let him go with a warning. “I don't want to be all sticky when you give me the talk!”
Please…work…let me escape to my room…
“Then you should have thought about that before you got yourself into this mess!” Gin's pale face began to flush with a tint of red and she crossed her arms. “Now Riku…”
Think Riku…think of something! I'm the Prince of Punks! I can do it! Somehow…maybe if I just-
“Ahem…”
The three turned their gazes to Sephiroth which was frowning slightly and he stood straightening his body and casting a hand through his silver tresses.
“Maybe I should leave…”
Riku suddenly knew he owed his uncle his life…
Gin gasped and shook her head vigorously, “No Sephy!” Riku flinched and Gin ambled over toward Sephiroth frowning. “I'll start dinner right now!” Scurrying out the living room, Gin was out in a flash and Hiroshi shook his head, following after, leisurely.
Well…I guess…I owehim…damn it! I'm glad he saves my ass all the time, but damn it…I hate it when I owehim…
Glancing up at his uncle, Riku loathed that stupid amused smirk on his uncle's pale face and the crossing of his uncle's arms as if to say, `Now-you-owe-me-your-life-kid'. Pouting, Riku huffed, annoyed.
“So what's the damage?” Riku mumbled and he averted his gaze away from his now cocky uncle.
“You will meet Sora everyday after school…and you'll report everything that happens to me after…”
“But-”
“And if you don't…” Sephiroth's voice lowered and his eyes narrowed. “There will be serious punishment…”
Well…I see no way getting out of this one…
“Do we agree, Riku?” Sephiroth ambled over and offered his hand. Riku stared at it for a few moments and sighed, taking it into his own hand and he shook it with sheer force. Sephiroth pulled Riku up and ruffled his hair, grinning.
“STOP!” Riku growled as he tried to slap Sephiroth's hand away. “Stop! It hurts!”
“Riku, Sephy! Dinner!” Gin yelled over the younger boy's complaining and Sephiroth let go of Riku, smiling.
Damn I hate you…

“We're home, Sora!”
Sora sighed and watched from out the window as they drove into the circular driveway in front of the large mansion, flowers and trees decorated the outside with two statues of lions before the stairs up to the front door. As they jerked to a stop, Sora listened to David hum as he got out of the limo and sauntered over to Sora's door, opening it with a big smile.
“Welcome home Sora!” David continued to smile and Sora wished he was somewhere else at the moment. With a small smile, Sora hopped out of the seat and grabbed his book bag, shrugging it over his shoulder and stepped up the stairs to the front door.
The big oak doors stood, towering over Sora and when he was about to knock, David came rushing up and rung the doorbell. Sora sighed and shook his head, snapping his head when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He glanced up to see David with a small frown upon his face and he nodded, understanding Sora's situation. With a smile, Sora turned his gaze away from David as the door opened, revealing a tall lanky man. The curly-haired brunette looked at Sora with mild interest, motioning for him to enter. Sora trudged in without another look at either of the men and glance around the room.
As it was everyday, neat and tidy, the foyer was beautiful. White tiled floors, shining constantly with the family crest engraved into each of them and an enormous stairway with a long, massive red carpet on top of it, leading up to the second floor. A study room was to his right where he could just make out the countless tower-like bookshelves and the tip of the desk his mother always worked at. To his left was the dining room where he could see the long oak table set with glasses and plates, already prepared for dinner. Trailing up the stairs, Sora finally stopped and swung his body to the left and placed his hand on the golden doorknob, swinging the door open.
I wonder if mom is eating with me tonight…I haven't talked to her in…wow…about a week…I wonder if Riku talks to his parents…wait! Why am I thinking about him? He acted so mean…
Closing the door behind him, Sora ambled over toward his bed and laid his book bag on top of it, remembering he had homework in Cid's class. Sighing, Sora plopped himself onto his bed and unzipped his book bag, pulling out the necessary book and his Science binder. Searching in his pocket, Sora pulled out a pen and opened his binder to an unused piece of paper. Time to get to work…
Opening his Science book to the right page, Sora began to skim the page and he sighed, tapping the top of the pen on the side of his cheek.
The Universe and You…the earth is compressed of…ugh…I'm kind of bored…I wonder what Riku is doing…wait! I don't care about that asshole! 867-5309 my ass! I should do something about it…hmmm…but what?
Contemplating and oblivious to the passing time, Sora jumped startled as a knock was issued at the door and he mumbled a small `Come in'. The door opened softly and a woman a few years older than him poked her head into the room. Sora remembered her. She was one of the servant girls that helped his mother everyday…her name was…Chelsea?
The girl took a baby step into the room and bowed gracefully, her shoulder length chestnut hair hiding her face as she did so. Sora frowned and tilted his head to the side as an awkward silence filled the room, but that was soon to be broken.
“Dinner is ready, Master Sora…” The quiet voice of the girl made Sora smile and he nodded to himself, hopping off his bed, which made the girl snap her head up startled, as if he was a three headed monster. His brows furrowed and he gave her a reassuring smile.
“Will my mother be dining with me?” The simple question…that he hoped would be a yes would either give him joy or sorrow and he hoped it was the first one.
The girl stood tall, only about an inch or so taller than Sora and she frowned shaking her head. “I'm sorry, but the mistress is occupied with a new project that she says will change the way you, master and her live…”
Sora's shoulders slumped and he nodded, half-heartedly. “Thank you…”
“Yes Master…” She bowed her head and turned her back on him, leaving him to himself. He trailed out the door and frowned, eyes glued to the floor.
Another lonely night…

“Remember the time when Riku was just a baby and he would hide behind the chair and tell us to go away! He was so adorable, even after we watched him secretly go in his diaper!”
The laughter of the table made Riku wish he was in a hole as the family reminisced about the embarrassing moments in Riku's life. Riku hung his head low as he moved the peas on his plate from side to side and listened to his pride get crushed.
Damn it…this sucks ass…
“Or the time when Riku cried when he didn't get that Barbie that he wanted when he was little! I almost went out and bought the whole store!” Hiroshi burst out laughing as him and Gin recalled the memories they both cherished and loved. Sephiroth smiled and ate his food quietly, glancing at Riku from time to time and he chuckled at some of the memories he was even quite fond of.
The two parents sighed, calming down and they began to eat again. Riku sighed joyfully and his heart swelled with relief. A grin twitched on his lips and he was glad that they finally stopped…
“How about the time when I told Riku he was a mermaid and he believed me…he couldn`t stop singing that Little Mermaid song for months.”
The table erupted into laughter as Sephiroth told one of the funniest memories he recalled. Riku pushed his plate away from him and banged his head on the table, wincing from the pain, but pushing that aside. He wished his parents were in another dimension or at least…away from him.
“I know! Let's watch those home videos you recorded Hiroshi!” Gin squealed and Riku's head snapped up, wide-eyed with growing fear.
“Mom! Dad!” Riku jumped up, power-walking over to Sephiroth and putting a hand on his shoulder, squeezing it with a maddened power. “I think Uncle Seph has to go home now! It's a school night remember?”
“Well…” Sephiroth began and he glanced up at Riku and his scowling face, a slow smirk appeared on his lips and he shrugged. “I could go in late tomorrow…why not!”
The pressure on Sephiroth's shoulder increased as Riku growled and squeezed harder, threatening silently for Sephiroth to leave before it got ugly. Sephiroth stood, which made Riku reluctantly let go of Sephiroth and Gin grinned, girlishly tilting her head and squealing again. She always got like this when Seph was here…it was as if she was a rabid fan girl ready to pounce and lick him from head to toe. Shuddering at the thought, Riku averted his gaze away, scowling. She was such a damn girl and she was married! His father didn't even care about her being all `lovey-dovey' on his own brother! It was sick and the worst part was that they would watch embarrassing movies about him! Ugh! He needed to go to sleep…at least get away from these people!
“Riku-Riku, what's wrong?” The harmonious voice of his mother rang in his ears and he looked at her, blinking for a second then he shrugged, glancing away.
“Nothing mom…”
“Oh goody! Now you and your father go find those movies! Seph, would you help me with the dishes?”
Eyebrow raising, Riku sighed and nodded his head, complying with his mother's wishes and he and his father trudged out the kitchen and into the living room where in the corner was a little entertainment center where all the movies were located. Riku watched his father get onto one knee and opened the tiny center, searching with his eyes at the stack of movies.
“Dad?”
“Yes Riku?”
The question buzzed in his mind and he inhaled deeply, exhaling as he spoke.
“Why do you let mom do that stupid girly thing she does when Seph is over? Why do you leave her alone with him? Aren't you afraid that they'll do something? Don't you care?”
A smile curved onto Hiroshi's lips and he shook his head slowly, continuing to search for the movies. “I've known Seph all my life and I know he knows that I would die for your mother…I trust your mother the same way that she trusts me…it's called love son and maybe…someday…you'll understand that…”
Even though Riku thought his father said the corniest shit in the whole entire world, Riku kind of understood him. Even if both of his parents had serious short-term memory loss (or maybe they chose to forget about his incidents)…Even though it was mushy as hell and he wanted to go back in time and stop him from asking the question, Riku actually understood him…
Well…this was interesting…
Quietly, Riku watched his father with a frown and he crossed his arms deep in thought. Shaking his head and sighing, Riku jumped startled as his father exclaimed in an `AH-HA!' as he found the movies he so desired. Riku hung his head low and bit his lip, quivering with disgust.
“Oh look! Here's the one where you ran through the house naked!”
Riku's mouth dropped and he snapped his gaze toward his father, who was smiling, waving the tape in front of Riku's face. Riku attempted to snatch the tape from his father's hand, but failed as his father pulled away and ruffled his son's silver locks, chuckling.
“DAD!”
“Hiroshi, are you ready?!” Gin called from the kitchen and Hiroshi yelled back a “Yes!” Riku frowned and heaved a deep sigh.
“I'm off to bed…”
Hiroshi chuckled and smiled at his son. “All right…get some sleep, okay?”
Riku nodded and groaned as his uncle and mother entered the room, laughing merrily. Riku slithered past them and trudged up the stairs, dragging his feet upon the floor and he halted in front of his door, grasping the knob and swinging the door open to enter a truly disorganized room.
Damn…I really have to clean this shit…
Stepping over piles of dirty clothes and scattered graded papers, Riku dropped onto his messed up sheets on his bed and sighed, joyously as he closed his eyes and grasped for a pillow that he put under his head, nuzzling it and descending right to sleep.
Oh…yeah…

It was nine o' clock. Sora sat hunched over his plate of food and sighed, hanging his head low and staring at his almost finished plate with a sluggish expression. Using his fork to shuffle his Alfredo noodles from one side of his plate to the other, Sora exhaled deeply, hearing it echo in the enormous dining room. The silence was slightly eerie, but he dealt with this everyday. It was nothing new…
Blinking a few times, Sora glanced out the entrance of the dining room and hoped his mother would amble in and smile telling him she was sorry that she was so busy and for leaving him alone…not talking to him for a whole week…at least…a smile…a glance…the sound of her voice…
Pulling on a fake smile, Sora opened his mouth and dug his fork into the noodles, placing them in his mouth and he began to chew, slowly. His eyes stared at the entrance to the dining room and his heart swelled with a depressed feeling. In an attempt to avoid looking at the dining room again, Sora glanced over at the double white doors that led to the kitchen and watched wide-eyed as the same girl that came to tell him about dinner sauntered over, holding a plate above her head as if she was a waitress. She smiled sweetly and placed the plate in front of him. He smiled as he gazed on the chunk of chocolate cake in front of him and his lips twitched into a grin as he gazed at hungrily.
“Thank you!” He chirped and his eyebrow rose. He just sounded like Selphie for a moment there. Shaking his head, he turned his head to smile at the girl, but she was gone and his shoulders slumped once again. That girl was really quiet…
Digging into his piece of cake, Sora gladly finished it in a matter of moments and wiped his mouth, pushing himself away from the table and he ambled out of the dining room. Smiling, Sora entered the study room and glimpsed his mother to the side, head bent down gazing at her work with tired eyes.
“Hey mom!” Sora greeted joyously, hoping for a smile, but what he got was a glare.
Sora's mother, Yumi glared at her son from cobalt blue orbs identical to Sora that were almost hidden behind her bangs since her head was hung low. Her long chestnut locks draped down her back like a beautiful woven blanket. Her tanned skin was reflected off the lamp which was right beside her and Sora grinned sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head in a sign of apology.
She huffed and glanced down at her work, continuing on, ignoring her son. Though she was beautiful as her name stated…Sora still loved her even if she was a bitch to him most of the time. His mother was a widowed millionaire. They both had it hard after his father died at least…it had to be at least a year now.
“Well…I just want to say good night!” Sora pulled a hopeful smile and wished his mother looked up. His heart swelled with desiring hope, but it was crushed before his very eyes.
She nodded her pretty head and waved him off as if he was an irritating fly. He trailed out of the room and trudged up the stairs turning left and heading for his room.
Entering, Sora shut the door mutely and leaned his back on it, slowly sliding down and covering his head with his hands. Mom…why won't you look at me with love anymore? Is it because I look like dad? Balling his hands into fist, Sora hopped up and stomped over to his bed, stopping in front of it and stripping his clothes off, leaving his boxers, Sora threw off the covers and plopped himself onto the bed, throwing the covers back on him. Huffing, Sora squeezed his eyes closed and growled.
Get some sleep Sora…don't think of him…
Calming down, Sora slowly plunged into a tranquil sleep. Dad…
