Fan Fiction ❯ Project: Moon Child ❯ Heart Beat ( Chapter 1 )
Project: Moon Child
`Chapter One - Heart Beat`
A woman was perched inside a glass tank. The softly lighted bubbles of water floating to the surface every so
often. Her eyes were closed; she seems to be away from reality, away from all life. But then, glossy lips parted and
she spoke, "What's wrong with me?"
"Taruki… Nothing is wrong with you. You are the strongest of the Moon Children. You area full moon…" The
man outside the glass said to her. Placing an outstretched palm onto the illuminating blue tank, fingertips absently
touching the area where her moon symbol glow brightest from her forehead. "…Nothing will ever be wrong with
you." He said once more, almost… His words seemed reddened with sadness.
"But…I been having memories lately. They don't seem mine. There's a pretty girl running through green
stuff… She's smiling… She's happy. Why can't I be like the lilac haired girl, Gaku?" She said softly, her eyes
slowly opening to reveal the passion pink color beneath the ebon painted lids.
He looked down, away from her gaze. Right hand digging into his white lab coat pocket. "…You are her."
"I…Am that happy girl?" She said confused, trying to grab his eyes with her own. Her hand mimicking the spot
he placed it upon the glass. "Gaku… Taruki is that girl?" She said once more at the silence that dwelled in the lab.
He looked up with his soft violet eyes. "You are that girl. That was your original form. We had taken you, you
had powers and we simply made them stronger, branded you with the mark of Moon and now here you are… Still
being worked on like a lab rat." He said, almost disgusted with his own work.
"That was I? … Gaku took me and now here I am." She said, looking down.
"I didn't take you, Taruki. The other scientists took you, they created what you are now." He explained once
more.
"…Gaku?" She asked timidly. Her hand dropping from the thick glass wall.
"What is it?" He asked, watching as her eyes met with his once more.
"How do you know…My other self?" She asked, still confused of why he didn't help make her…And how he
knew what she was.
"I used to know you…Before this happened." He said simply.
She nodded slightly, more absent bubbles drifting around her head. "What was? What was Taruki like when that
was she?" Finishing her question she looked expectantly at him.
"Taruki…" He mumbled, beginning to tell his story.

A lone young maiden ran absently through the flower fields. Letting the emerald strands lick at her bare legs,
catching the hem of her gold sundress. "Gaku! Gaku, you can't get me!" She chanted, skipping now, a bouquet of
flowers in her grasp.
"I can I just don't want to." Was his only excuse as he was feet behind the energetic girl.
"Sure!" She gasped, falling to the gentle mist of pink flowers. He slowly made the rest of the distance and
collapsed beside her. She giggled at his panting self. "…All tired now, huh Gaku?"
He nodded a few times before his breath was fully caught. "You can run so fast…" He admitted. "But, I still
could have caught you if I wanted to."
"Fine." She stuck her tongue out, her pale pink eyes staring up at the clouds.
"What?" He snorted.
"Nothing." She smirked, trying to keep her amused eyes to the slowly moving clouds.
"Fine." He stated as well, but dashed off, a lovely gold hat in his hand.
She gasped, and attempted to run after him as well. "Gaku give that back!"
"Make me!" Was his comment back as the duo ran through the woods, out to the village on the other side.
"Can't catch me!" He chanted to her now."
"Can so!" And so she ran, almost inhuman speed she ran… And before the boy knew it, she was in front of
him, palm outstretched and wanting her possession back.
"…Fine, here." He crossed his arms after tossing the hat back to her.
"Thank you." She stuck her tongue out once more. And then… Time stood still.
~
"Gaku?" She blinked, tilting her head trying to see his eyes once more.
"…I'm fine." He mumbled, gazing back up, his face never showing emotion anymore.
"Why'd you stop?" She mumbled.
"It's the day they took you. Made you what you are… They took you away from me." He said again, and
began to talk, to tell all before she could speak again.
~
"Come on, Taruki." He said deeply, grabbing her hand.
"What is it?" She asked, running with him back to the woods.
"They're looking for you." He stated coldly.
She blinked, following a bit closely now. "Looking… For me?"
"Yes." He nodded grimly, jumping into a bush, hoping to hide. The shrill noise of faint 'beeps' was heard.
"Gaku?" She said softly, and he quieted her.
"Over here. I saw her a moment ago." The first male said, following his 'beeping' object to the forest where
the duo hid.
"Why are they after, Taruki?" She said, fear in her words as she clung to him.
"You have powers. Everyone in the town, city, and our village knows that. In fear of the scientists who want
you they give information where you are… And now this is really happening, you may leave." He said silently in
her ear as he watched the group pace around the forest for them. One inching ever closer to their hiding spot.
"I don't want to leave." She stated firmly. Glaring at the moving figures in the clearing.
"I don't want you to leave either. But, they will find you…" He said sadly. "…As long as I have a heart best
left in my body I will search everywhere for you. I will find you again, Taruki." He promised her.
"…I trust you to find me, Gaku." She hugged onto him as the man found their hiding place.
"She's here!" He growled, trying to grab her away. He took the scruff of her collar, ripping her away from the
boy. He immediately tried to get her back, only to be kicked down again.
"Gaku!" She creamed, being taken away to the unknown.
"I'll find you again!" He coughed, arms draped across his bruised rib cage. He tried to run after but merely fell
to the forest floor below. He eyes one possession she had dropped for him. Her flower pendant. And so he kept it,
to remember the one he needed to save.
~
"As long as I have a heart beat in my body, I will find you." He repeated. "And I have, but look what they
stole from you, from me. Your memories… You don't even know who I am anymore, do you Taruki?" He said
sadly, looking to her darkened eyes, not the ones he remembered gazing at years ago. "…The time I knew I found
leads to you here. I attempted to get a job, hoping no one knew me. And… They didn't, but it doesn't matter,
they get the last laugh, don't they?"
"Gaku…I…Can remember." She said softly.
