When the hero’s arrived at the place the explosion had occurred, they stood at the mouth of a crater that was about 1,000 meters in diameter. There in the crater stood Death and Alex. Alex was giving the battle everything he had, and Death looked as if he wasn’t even trying. Alex was fully powered up. His wings were unfurled and glowing. His hair was longer and white, and his eyes shone a stunning blue. Alex launched numerous energy attacks, but Death simply dodged them. Alex flew in quickly trying to get in a close up attack with his sword. Death parred Alex’s first attack and launched a counter attack. Death sword barely missed Alex, who teleported behind Death and immediately launched an energy attack. The attack obliterated Death’s cloak. Death however had teleported behind Alex, Death nailed Alex with an energized punch, which sent Alex sprawling.

“Come on hero, I thought by now you would be stronger. I mean, I haven’t even had to power up for this pathetic fight.” Death sarcastically mused.

“Just shut up and fight” Alex said as his eyes glowed and he teleported behind Death. Before Death could turn around, he hunched over in pain from the punch Alex landed on him when he teleported. He turned around in time to receive a quick punch in the face that sent him flying.
“Ah so the hero has some spunk. Well let’s see how you deal against this.” Death said mockingly as he began to charge up. His hands turned into talons, his eyes glowed a blood red, horns appeared on each side of his head, and black wings sprung from his back. He smiled showing his fangs as he suddenly disappeared.

*Huh, where’d he go* Alex thought. His answer came when he was nailed in the back by an energy attack. Before he could recover Death was in front of him, Death hit Alex with a uppercut of such force, Alex thought he might have dislocated his jaw. As Alex lay on the ground, Death stabbed him in the chest with his sword.

“Aaah” Alex yelled as Death then picked him up by the sword.

“Your no fun. Do you know the reason I haven’t fought you in so long? It was because I wanted you to get stronger. But it seems no matter how strong weaklings get they will always be weaklings.” Death said through clenched teeth. Alex’s friends looked on in horror. Lyle tried to get down to help his friend but was stopped by a barrier.

“What, this barrier...it’s not Death’s it’s Alex’s” Lyle said in amazement.

“Why would Alex create a barrier if he asked for our help?” Sasuka pondered bewildered by what his friend had done.

“Alex, don’t you die on me. Fight him Alex...please don’t die on me” Jamie said thru tears as she saw Alex screaming in pain as Death slid his sword out of Alex’s chest and held Alex by the throat.

“So hero, you used some of your energy to create a barrier to protect your friends. How noble. Too bad though, you could have used that energy. Now, I’ll just have to kill you before I kill them.”

“You bastard.”

“Ah I see you still have some spunk left in you. But you really are pathetic your mother had more spunk when she was on her death bed than you do. Such a tragic way to die, your mother, I mean, pierced in the chest and then cut in half. Tsk, Tsk.” Death said evidently enjoying the reaction he was getting from his victim “ Oh that’s right, you were told she died by the hands of your father. How sad it must be to find out the truth. She did die by his hands, by I was the ones pulling the strings. He loved your mother until the very end. I manipulated him, took control and then was able to free myself. You see I knew she had great spiritual power. After all she was the mother to the Archangel. And I knew if I could harness that power I could be set free, so I killed her. As a matter of fact I killed all your relatives, and all your friends. The best part was that you were watching while I did it. Lucky for me that I was able to suppress your memories of it. All those innocent people died because they new you. Now your friends standing there are going to die, once again because they new you.”

“Oh my Lord” Jamie said as she and everyone else heard what Death had just announced.

“Alex..”Ashley said they all remembered what he had said when he first met them, it seemed what he had said was true. Everyone there knew what an internal Hell Alex was in right then. Everything he had feared, everything he had felt, all of it was now coming to the surface.

“I feel sorry for Death” Lyle said.

“What the hell do you mean you fell sorry for him! Did you just hear what he said!” Sasuka yelled enraged my Lyle’s words.

“Yeah, but you know Alex, you know how he gets when he’s mad. And something tells me Death just pissed him off. Imagine how must pain he kept locked inside from the deaths of his relatives, blaming it all on himself, all the hate and sorrow he kept bottled up inside. And now Death has just unleashed it all” Lyle replied as he looked down at the battle. Lyle’s words through true tried to give the feeling of emotionless. But everyone realized he was just as upset about what Death had said as everyone else was. He on the other hand thought logically about it to.

Alex began to shake as all the pain he had kept locked away over his mother’s death, and all his other relatives deaths came out. The true memories of his mother’s death came flooding back to him, along with a burning hatred for Death and a deep regret for his father. He wanted to rip Death limb from limb for what he did, but inwardly he was to sad and scared, mainly because what Death said was true, they died because of him.

“You want to know what your mother’s last words were. She said that she was glad to die, knowing that her death meant you would live. She also said that you would grow strong and avenge her. Also she said that one day, I would see my own death in your eyes, as she saw her death in my eyes. How wrong could that crazy woman be. You weren’t strong enough to help her then, you aren’t strong enough to help your friends now, and your surely not strong enough to save yourself. And trust me when I kill you, I’ll make sure your friends die slow and painfully, especially that bitch of yours!”

Finally all the sadness, pain, suffering, hurt, anger, and hatred that Alex felt inside of him melded into a massive amount of energy. Alex looked down at Death his eyes glowing with fire, symbols began to appear on his arms. And he could feel his anger rising.

“You bastard, I remember what happened now. Death, this battle’s far from over.” Alex said as his wings suddenly appeared now combined with fire their brightness momentarily blinding Death. Alex then teleported behind Death and nailed him with an energy blast. Death was stunned by Alex’s new found power.

“I see, you’ve gained mastery over your dark powers. How very good.” Death said, his anger showing now as he madly swung at Alex with his sword. Alex now had the upper edge as he dodged the attacks with ease. Alex grabbed Death’s sword with his hand and blasted Death back. Alex then jumped back and charged up for an attack.

While Death was getting up Alex unleashed his attack.

“Wrath of Heaven” Alex yelled as he raised his glowing hands towards Death. A tremendous amount of energy with fire wrapped around it collided with Death sending him sprawling.

Death gasped in pain. Alex came up to slice Death with his sword but Death teleported and elbowed Alex in the back. Alex ricocheted off of a rock a rocketed towards Death. Alex sliced Death across the stomach and then came around for a strike that would slice him in half. Death blocked the attack and came around with an energy blast. Alex and Death then both struck at the same time. The result was that their swords became locked. Each one then , with their free hand, summoned a huge amount of energy into it. Then the shot the energy at each other at the same time. Both blasts collided at point blank range. The resulting explosion sent each person flying backwards and dealing a good bit of damage to each one. Before Alex was able to recover Death charged him and with a powerful vortex slash knocked Alex to the ground. Alex by this time was severely weakened and was barely fending off Death’s attacks. Death then came down with a powerful slash but Alex blocked it with an energy blast and was able to knock Death backwards if only for a few seconds.

Alex knew he had better finish this quickly while he still had energy, he then unleashed all 100% of his dark energy. The symbols on his arms turned solid black, his hands became like talons, his ears became pointed and his eyes became white.

“So you’ve unleashed all your dark energy, but are you sure you can control it?” Death asked even he himself was uncertain of the outcome of the battle if Alex could in fact control it.

Alex stood very motionless for a few seconds. His mind trying to see through a thick fog. It appeared as if things kept getting darker and darker, as if he was losing his humanity. It was then that it happened. He saw a bright light, and standing in front of him was his mom.

“Mom, is that really you?” Alex asked his voice shaking as he tried to hold back the tears.

“Yes, its me son.” his mother answered.

“Mom, I’m not going to make it out of this battle alive am I” Alex asked unsure of wether or not he wanted to hear the answer.

“I can’t say son. But listen, only you can end this here. The lives of your friends rides on whether or not you win. The lives of everyone alive.”

“I know but I’m not sure I can control the darkness within me.”

“What darkness, all I see is light”

“What do you mean? Death gave me dark energy, it’s coursing through my very veins.”

“Alex, what makes it light or dark is how you use it. The reason you think its dark is because its powered by your hate and sadness. But in reality the only energy there is, is light.”

“So you mean, you mean..”

“I mean, if you can control the sadness and hate in your heart, your dark energy will vanish. Darkness must give way to the light.”

“Mom, I must know something first.”

“Yes what is it?”

“You knew that you would die if you kept me correct.”

“Hmm...yes I knew.”

“Then why did you do it? Why would you risk your life for me? Everyone I knew died because they knew me, and they all knew that they were going to die! Why would they do that! I don’t know if I can save the world. Why would they risk their lives for someone that they didn’t even know would become the Archangel. Why would they put their faith in me?” Alex pleaded, searching for answer.

“Alex, my son. You a very wise, wise beyond your years. Yet you still can’t see what’s in front of you. They didn’t die for the Archangel, they died for you. Just as your friends risk their life to save you. They don’t do it because of who you are, or what your meant to do. They do it because you’re their friend and they care about you. Now, go Alex. You must defeat Death. Take care my son.”

“But mom, I don’t want you to leave. Please stay.”
“Alex you know I can’t, but remember where there is Life there must also be Death, for that is the key to this battle. And remember...I love you Alex.” Alex’s mother said as she disappeared through a great light. When Alex returned to his senses he could feel the dark energy swarm through him. He had to gain control, but he felt so angry and so sad at the same time.

“Alex, you can do it!” Ashley yelled from the side.

“Yeah man your stronger that this.” Michael cheered.

“Come on you wuss, you can’t let this thing beat you. You have to fight it.” Lyle added.

“Alex you’ve got to do this. We’re all counting on you.” Aurora said.

“You’re the only one that can do this man. It’s all you, now do what you do best and beat the crap out of him” Ryku quipped.

“Alex, don’t give up. When you finish him off, we’ll be here waiting for you just like always” Sasuka said.

“Alex, you can’t die, not yet. You promised me! Please I don’t want to lose you again” Jamie said lastly.

“Heh, your wasting your breathe. He’s exactly like his father, weak! He can’t control his dark desires, and because of that he is mine.” Death said gleeming

Alex’s mind immediately started remembering all the good times he had with his friends, and all the times they had been there for him. He remembered all their smiling faces, and that they were who he was fighting for. At that moment the dark energy changed, replaced with light energy. And Alex went under an amazing transformation. His hands returned to normal, his ears did too. The symbols on his arms disappeared. He now had two sets of long white wings, his hair returned to its normal color. His clothes turned to a bright white, and his sword changed forms. It was now longer and gleamed a bright white. Its handle formed a golden cross as gold symbols etched his blade. As he raised his head, his normal blue eyes glowed with power.

“I am not my FATHER! I grew up hating him because of you. I lost everyone I cared about and drove myself away from those that I have grown fond off. I will make you pay for that!” Alex yelled loudly as energy erupted from his body.

“N-no it cannot be. The energy I gave you to heal you long ago, ensured the fact that you would never be able to use the full extent of your powers. How can you be able to now. It’s just not possible, the darkness in your heart would have negated your ability to become a being of Light.”

“Your right, but light and dark is trivial. It just depends on how you look at it. Hate, pain, sorrow, fear, these are the things that make darkness what it is. If you take away those all that’s left is happiness, joy, and love. It took me this long to finally figure that out. Now Death it is time for you to pay for your sins.”

“Hah, fool. You will never be able to kill me. As long as there is life, there will always be Death!” Death screamed at the top of his lungs as he charged Alex.

Alex summoned a great deal of energy into his sword as he dodged Deaths attack. Alex then launched an energy attack aimed for Death’s chest. Death deflected the attack, but was stabbed in the chest by Alex who had followed in the trail of the attack. Alex twisted around so Death was facing his back. Alex then put another great amount of energy into the sword.
“Heaven’s Final Art Seal of the Tormented.” Alex said as he sword began to pulse with energy.

“Wh-what’s happening?” Death yelled as he began to cuss “I can’t move!”

“Exactly, I’m using the very art you taught me against you. I finally had enough energy to use the final seal.”

“Aaargh. I’ll kill you, no matter what you do to me I’ll always remain” Death yelled.

“No, your wrong, because I finally figured out the reason we never could kill you Death.”

“WHAT!”

“Because as long as there is Life, there must also be Death.”

“Wait you don’t mean.”

“Sasuka, take care of the team. You’re the leader now. Lyle watch out for Jamie okay. And Jamie, I’m sorry I won’t be able to keep that promise to you.” Alex said as he looked towards the ground, unable to face the questioning glances from his teammates.

“W-what does he mean, he can kill Death right now” Michael yelled.

“No, he can’t” Lyle said quietly.

“What do you mean by that” Ryku butted in.

“Because, as long as someone has the power over life, someone must have the power over death to equal things out. So, as long as Alex is alive, Death cannot be killed.” Sasuka answered his eyes surveying the battle.

“Jamie are you okay” Ashley asked. Jamie was standing very still, and she looked very pale and was visibly shaken.

Alex was floating in the air in front of Death. He landed softly and held his hands out to his sides. His wings disappeared, but his white clothes remained. He was putting every ounce of energy he had into his hands. His hands began to glow a brilliant white. The air swirled around his hands and the ground began to shatter at the amount of energy he had.

“Wait...where’s all this extra energy coming from” Sara asked.

“He’s using up all his energy, including his life energy” Aurora stated.

Alex’s head hung down as a tear rolled down his eye. *Mom, I’ll be seeing you soon. I just wish I didn’t have to leave my friends in the process. Jamie I’m soo sorry for doing this to you, I hope you can forgive me* Alex thought.

With his head still down Alex said “ Death this battle is finally..” with the last word Alex raised his head as tears streamed down his face “OVER!”

Alex unleashed all the energy he had, in an enormous explosion that rocked the entire world. His barrier was shattered and his friends were knocked back by the shockwaves.

Everyone was in total disbelief at what had just happened. The only sound that could be heard was the sobbing of Jamie who sat on the ground tears streaming down her face. It was at this time that a single white feather fell from the sky landing in her lap.

“What does this mean” Lyle asked as he noted the feather.

“It means everything’s going to be okay. Death is gone for good. We can destroy the rest of the Demon’s. We’ll be able to once again lead normal lives, and try to rebuild from all this chaos.” Sasuka stated as he rested a comforting hand on Jamie.

“You know if he had a choice he wouldn’t have done it right?”

Jamie couldn’t answer through the sobs. She knew what he said was right, but she still couldn’t bring herself out of the initial shock of seeing him die.

“Hey kido cheer up it’ll be okay.” Michael said trying to cheer her up but nothing worked.

“Hey Jamie, I think Alex would’ve wanted you to hold on to this.” Lyle said as he came towards her. In his hand was Alex’s trademark cross necklace.

“God must’ve wanted you to have it, to remind you of Alex” Lyle said kindly as Jamie took the necklace and placed it around her neck. She slowly got up with the help of Michael and Lyle.

“Y-you guys go ahead, I’ll catch up with you in a sec.” Jamie said. Everyone complied with her request as they slowly began the trek out of the Valley of Death. Jamie peered off into the sky as if she could sense the person floating above her. She smiled softly to herself as she was comforted by unseen hands. She then turned around an walked towards the others.

*I know your there Alex. You’ll continue watching over us, just like you always have.* Jamie thought as she stepped into the portal Ryku had created.

Floating above the group unseen by normal eyes, was an angel. An angel with brown hair ,blue eyes and face the seemed wise beyond his years. He had a smirk on his lips as he looked upon his friends.

*Your right Jamie, I’ll always be here. I can’t leave you guys now. Besides, with the trouble you guys get into, you’ll need a someone looking over you.* Alex thought as he soared through the sky his smiling face shining in the sun. He didn’t know exactly what awaited him, but he knew that as long as he could watch over his friends that he would be okay.

Two moths later Jamie and everyone had eliminated most of the remaining demon’s on earth. There was a small group of demons that was all that had remained from the group that had inhabited the Valley of Death. Jamie and the rest of the group thought that this would be an easy task to do, and that then they would finally be able to live normal lives, but when they stepped out of the portal they realized this would be anything but easy. There standing in front of them was one hundred demons, but suddenly it went from one hundred, to one thousand, then ten thousand, these demons were high level ones that could create mass multiples of dopplegangers of themselves.

“Ah crap, oh well, just think these are the last one’s we have to fight and then we’re through. Let’s do this for Alex.” Jamie said as she sliced a demon in half with her whip.

“Heh right sure thing boss” Sasuka said sarcastically as he tried to summon wind to destroy a demon in front of him. It was at that moment everyone realized why they felt weird when they exited the portal...their powers were gone.

“What’s going on, why can’t we use our powers?” Lyle said as he kicked a demon back and struck at some with his sword.

“I’m not sure.”
“Hey look up!” Ashley yelled as everyone followed her gaze. There in the sky was a rune symbol used in spells floating in the sky above them.

“ So that’s what’s cancelling our powers. This is going to be one long battle.” Sasuka said, knowing full well that without their powers they were as weak as normal humans, and didn’t stand a chance against these demons. Everyone soon realized this to as they were being surrounded and were slowly being moved towards the middle of the demon army. Demon’s lashed out at the hero’s striking and clawing at their skin. Leaving deep wounds in their arms, legs, and chest.

“You, the mighty Guardians, shall now fall before our hands.” One of the larger demons said joy fully. All of a sudden the entire plane was filled with a bright light.

“What in the world is that” the demon’s echoed. Suddenly the symbol in the sky was shattered, and white energy beams rained from the sky. Instantly vaporizing all the demons surrounding the hero’s.

“I’m not complaining or anything, but what was that?” Lyle asked as his wounds began to heal as his powers returned.

“I-I’m not sure.” Ashley stated as she stayed by Sasuka’s side “do you know what that was honey”

“I’m not sure, but it...it felt familiar that light, almost like, but it couldn’t be.” Sasuka stammered.

“I know what your saying but there’s no way” Michael commented. Ryku nodded his head in agreement. None of them wanted to say what they thought it was for fear of bringing false hope to Jamie.

“I know what you guys think. And your right it did feel like Alex’s energy, but we all know there’s no way he can come back.” Jamie said trying to convince everyone that she had fully recovered from Alex’s death, but failing miserably. “It was his final gift for us. He shall always remain our Guardian Angel.”

“These were the last demons. So what now?” Michael asked sensing the nervousness everyone felt.

“Now, it’s time to live our lives the way we want to. Alex wouldn’t want us to mourn his death, he would want us to live our lives the best way we could making everyday count.” Sasuka said with a smile as memories of Alex flooded all their minds. They missed him dearly, but they knew that they would have to live without him.

“So I guess this is really it. I mean, we’re through, we’re finally free.” Lyle announced, breaking the silence. “It’s going to be weird, living life without fear.”

“Yeah, it’ll be nice though, having some peace and quiet.” Sara replied. Every one knew that Jamie was crying, but none of them knew what to say. She would have denied it anyway as the tears cascaded down her face.

“It’s finally over.” Jamie said as she smiled at everyone. She grasped Alex’s necklace tightly as she looked at the sky. “He’s always with us, and he always will be.”

“Jamie...your necklace...its glowing.” Ashley stated as Jamie moved her hand away to look at her necklace. A blue energy radiated from it.

“Heh, looks like your right. Not even Death could get rid of him. As long as your alive he’ll keep on watching over us. Cause lets face it, he could care less what happens to us, it’s you he’s worried about.” Lyle said jokingly as everyone laughed a little bit. They didn’t want to say goodbye, but they knew that it was time. They had to live their own lives and make their own way in the world. On that day the Guardians disbanded, as the once legendary hero’s vanished from sight to live their lives as normal humans. Free from all the turmoil, strife, fear, and pain caused from this unseen war. The one pain however, that they could never overcome was the pain of loss. But knowing that Alex died to give them the chance to live, is the idea that kept them fighting for so long.

Thus concludes the war over the fate of Earth. No one could’ve predicted the outcome of this battle, for no one can measure the amount of human potential. Or how far someone will go to protect their friends. But one thing is for certain...the legacy of the Archangel will forever remain.
