Chapter 0: Prologue
There were once two mighty warriors, Limbairedhiel and Megildur. One was pure the other was not. They fought a huge battle on a vast plain later to be known as South Gondor, a battle between Good and Evil, between Elves and Demons. The two armies were ranged against each other at dawn. Each side rushed the other and mass casualties resulted on both sides.
Employing invisible Possession Demons the army of Evil used their lowest caste of infantry to cause the Elves to kill each other. The side of Good countered the Possession Demon's deception with their powerful Sorcerers who took control over the Demons and wrought havoc among the enemy forces.
With frightening speed the vicious winged Gargoyles were the first to be seen on the battle field. Seeking out the enemy, the Gargoyles sowed terror and confusion amongst the ageless beings of the Army of Good. Using their skilled archers, the Elves with fast hands and eagle-like eyesight picked the flying demons out of the skies returning it to its brilliant blue.
Termagants being agile, fast and cunning and Hormagaunts who were single-minded in their purpose of eviscerating the foe with their scythe-like claws were applied in the demon's numerous infantry. Bringing into play their vast infantry of Spearman and Sword and Shield Wielders, the elves contested the demons. Have long range, the Spearman kept the Termagants at bay while the Sword and Shield Wielders used their enchanted impenetrable shields against the Hormagaunts deadly scythes.
Working in league with the Possession demons as subterfuge, the large and massively powerful Tyrants deceived the Elvin infantry into believing that the demon's main force was attacking. With volley after volley of deadly enchanted arrows the Elvin archers protected the Sorcerers who sought out the deception and played tricks of their own.
Small Ripper demons, a specialty unit of the demon military, were utilized. The Ripper swarms multiplied and consumed everything non-demon in their path including plant and animal life. Lictors, as well, were deployed. With their high intelligence and awe-inspiring sensory organs which allowed them to see, smell, hear and taste the enemy long before coming into contact with them, Lictors were a feared force. Drawing on their incredible stealth and magic, the Elvin army dispatched gangs of dagger and bow and arrow wielding elves with their dexterity and finesse these elves slaughtered the rippers. The elves were complemented by their magical allies with a sense dampening spell which was cast over them to effectively making them invisible to the tremendous Lictors.
Zoenepsykes exploited their psychic abilities and created phantom troops and hallucinations as well as relaying commands between the generals and the lesser demons with telepathy. Wizard and Witch allies were assembled by the Elves to see through the illusions that the demon army had conjured.
Frightening Ravenors, twisted snake like demons with the unholy speed of gargoyles writhed across the battle field using their scything talons and rending claws to disembowel the Elvin troops. Putting into action the devastating force of their cavalry, the Elves responded to the threat of the Ravenors. The cavalry being a mounted mix of archers, spearman, sword and shield wielders and assault elves, which rode upon the fastest horses and employed a hit and run technique.
Heavy support for the Demons came from their Carnifexes, living engines of destruction that smashed through almost any obstacle and used their terrifying appearance and incredible height to strike despair into the hearts of the elves. Siege weapons or Arbalests, Mangonels, Onagers and Scorpions where constructed to counter the demoralizing force of the demon Carnifexes.
There were Tyrant Guards which were specialty bodyguards with amazing resistance to injury, they used their flesh hooks and barbed limbs to slash and tear through any Elf that came too close to their charge. The Elves had their elite soldiers on guard with enchanted swords at their hips and arrows for their long bows, enabling them to attack from afar.
The armies wasted each other in a gruesome battle that lasted three days and three nights.
When there were only the two warriors, Limbairedhiel and Megildur, left they battled for a further day and night and as they came upon the fifth night they were both exhausted. Megildur pulled his dagger from his sleeve and stabbed Limbairedhiel in the abdomen. As he was celebrating his victory, Limbairedhiel pulled the dagger from her stomach and stabbed him in the chest.
They stared at each other for a long time as they slowly bled to death. Limbairedhiel was the first to fall to the ground, laying in the carnage of the battle as she breathed infrequently. Megildur fell to his knees than to his side as his loss of blood hit him and he coughed up some of the little he had left.
Limbairedhiel and Megildur watched each other as they died little by little, both lying on their sides bloodied and drained. Limbairedhiel breathed her last breath, her chest rising and falling one last time before her eyes clouded as her essence left her.
Megildur watched her a moment longer then reached out his hand weakly and gently traced his finger along Limbairedhiel's jaw line. He then spoke to the empty wasteland of dead warriors four little words, `it wasn't worth it'. He coughed up more of his blood then closed his eyes and welcomed death.
What Megildur didn't know was that a warrior had heard him. Zerakasch stood up, looking around at the carnage of the epic battle of Good and Evil. The Greater Death Dealer looked down at the conspirators of the war and shook his head in pity as he replied, “no, it wasn't”.
Black Mors: So there you have it, a revised version of the prologue. I would still like to give a big thank you to my older brother and I would also like to thank my mother who helped with the revision. The song of the week is still The Human Bondage by Angel Dust because it's awesome.
