“Child, you are becoming quite a chore to look after.” Opening my eyes I discovered Ilyssa standing nearby.
“Back in Shadowworld,” I mumbled to myself.
“No. This, this is your mind.” Ilyssa looked around and a chair formed nearby. She sat. “Everytime I look it seems you increase in power of learn a new trick,” she said. I sat up. “Just remember that there will always be those with more power or better use of that power than you.”
She gestured and a wall of my invention reached out and clasped around my neck. Choking and sputtering, I tried to dispel the loop that was slowly strangling me. Nothing I tried had any effect. And suddenly, just as I was giving up, it was gone.
“Never forget. Those who come with the intention of your demise have but a fraction of your power, but they are well versed in that fraction. If they come upon you unexpectedly you will not win,” she turned her head away. “I must go. Remember, should they prove too great an adversary, call and we shall answer.” She flowed into the shadows of my mind and disappeared.

I woke up, for real this time. I was lying on a bed. There was a breeze and I opened my eyes to see where I was. Bars. Grey walls. Other cells, most of them empty. And, directly in front of me, Alex.
“Hey,” I said. His eyes were harder than I'd seen and for a while he held his silence. Then, “You never told me you were the one who burnt down Santa Rosa Boarding School. I thought you were just a telekinetic.”
“I didn't exactly want to advertise the fact that I had caused a massacre,” I responded, annoyed at his reproach.
“I could have done something to help you,” Alex continued, unheeding of my words. “But now enough people have made the connection and word reached my boss. I will follow my orders Sarah.” He walked out.

I didn't know what to think. I had really liked Alex but I wouldn't let myself die. Someone had bandaged my shoulder and hand, but neither was healed as of yet. I would wait for Alex and his friends, but in the meantime I would need the full use of my arm. I focussed and diverted more energy to my body's healing. As I did it, I kept track of everything around me. I would be ready.
