Chapter 3- Tears of the Sky

It takes a little while longer before I can stand, but in two days, With Jay's help, I can walk again. Before I had no recollection of pain, and the long walk through the woods totally tore my leg muscles to shreds. But in time I canwalk around my room and jump a little. My arm still hurts, but Brutus gives me painkillers to take so it really isn't that bad. The lady in teh kitchen is nice and she comes up and gives me food every day. One day when Jay is gone I decide to go downstairs. Jay is afraid of people and he doesn't like being around them, like most spirits. I go down the stairs slowly, step by step, but when I reach the bottom the people in teh lobby clap for me, along with Brutus.
"Looks like my hotel's little flower is finally blooming!" He says. I walk over to the desk and lean on it. Those stairs really took it out of me.
"Where am I, Brutus? What town am I in?" I ask. He blinks at me.
"You're on an island. It's old and withering away, but we here stay strong. Like I said, you're only thirty six miles away from land, but you must have come out here for a reason." He says. I look around to see the people staring at me.
"What's the name of the island?" I ask.
"The name? It's called Windrunner Island." He says. I was hoping the name would bring back at least a few words, but nothing pops into my mind. I slowly walk back up the stairs, and, panting heavilly, back into my room into my bed. It's around noontime.
"So the name doesn't bring back anything, eh?" Jay asks from his new perch on teh open windowsil. The curtians blow around and the room smells like the sea. I shake my head. jay leans out the window and points.
"Look, look!" He says hapilly. I glance over to the window and see a flock and white birds flying over the beach, calling out to each other. They dip low, then rise high and flutter away into the sun.
"Those birds are telling us that we have to go down to the beach." Jay declares. I watch him study the ocean for a while before her gets up and opens the window wider. He reaches his hand out to me.
"Come on, let's go down there!" He says. I stare at him with my mouth hanging open.
"Jay, we are on the second story. I can't make a jump like that." I say. I don't want to sound vain, but it really was the truth. Jay smiles.
"Then I'll carry you." He says. Before I can utter another protest he picks me up and carries oe over to the window. I can the the white birds twirling in teh endless blue sky and the water of teh ocean lapping at the sand.
Birds. Animals. Creatures. Nature. Earth. Life.
"Jay, are you sure you know what you're doin-" I scream as we both fly off of the windowsill and into the sand below. Jay grins. I never even hit the ground, he is still carrying me.
"Of course I do!" He says cheerfully. He sets me down in the sand and it makes my feet feel weird. I haven't stepped on anything but carpet and wood floor for the past three days. Jay and I walk out into the sunshine where the roar of the sea is loud. I look up and see the white birds all above us. I reach out my hand to them and one comes down and lands on my finger.
"See, they wanted us to come down here!" Jay says, kicking at the water and sand. I look around. Suddenly there is no pain. My arm is still useless, but I suddenly feel the urge to run. The bird lifts up off of my finger and flutters around my head, then dips low and flaps along the sore, and then back up to it's flock. I start running on the sand, chasing the flock around, the wet sand sticking to my feet and ankles. Jay is saying something, and then he points. The birds all veer back the way they came and I chase them that way. They start circling, like dancers. Jay grabs my hand, the one I can still use, and laughs. He looks like a real person, not transparent, with eyes that shine with the help of the sun. I smile.
Wind. Falling. Sunshine. Happiness. Love. Feathers.
The birds all land and I fall backwards into the sand. Jay is still laughing, and before I know it, I'm laughing too. It start to get up before the tide hits, but I'm not fast enough. It washes all around the bottom of my legs nad I freeze.
Water. Reaching. Lifeless bodies. Running. Bloodstain.
I scream loudly and jump out of the water, my legs burining like fire. The birds take off and leave the beach entirely. A woman's scream, Her eyes wide with terror.
"What's wrong?" Jay asks me. I run away from the water as fast as I can, into the sand. Jay follows me, but he's see-through again. He slowly fades from veiw as I run around to the front of the hotel, slam thgouh the doors, and run though the lobby, up the stairs, and into my room. Jay is not there.
Excruciating pain.
My voice won't scream anymore, but inside I'm screaming. My legs, my legs! I fall facefirst onto the hardwood part of the floor and for the second time that week, am knocked unconcious. The last thing I saw was the clouds moving over the sun and a singe drop of rain flying in though the open window.
The sky is crying.

Author's Note- This was a weird chapter. Oh well, it's done and I'm pooped. (Yeah, even though I just woke up I''m already tired again.)
