“You want to do what?” she screamed at the red head, slowly taking a few steps away from the roof edge.“It’s not that scary, you’re over exaggerating it,” the boy shrugged and took his attention from the alleyway below and turned to face the nervous girl. He held out his hand and smiled. “There’s absolutely no fucking way I’ll be jumping from the rooftop, we’re at least thirty stories up,” the girl folded her arms and looked away from the boy, her hands were trembling so she gripped onto her arms a little tighter than usual.“I’m experienced in this sort of thing, I promise you if you just let me help you down you’ll be just fine,” he assured her in a calming voice, dropping his hand and walking towards the girl. “Please, just trust me. There’s not other way of getting out of here without getting caught by the police.” Right, the police, Aaron had forgotten all about them, being preoccupied about the injuries she’d receive from jumping off of the building. Visions of her with broken and bloody appendages all wrapped up horribly tight by the doctor she shoved flashed through her mind and made her even more nervous.“You’re right, maybe I should just let the cops catch me, how about you jump to your death and I’ll just be on my way,” she turned to walk back to the elevator and give up on her game of cat and mouse. Travis rolled his eyes and ran in front of the girl, blocking her path.“Move out of the way,” she said looking at the ground, wondering what kind of penalties she’d be facing in the near future. Travis didn’t move and she decided to walk around him, he stepped in front of her again, and again and again as she tried to walk past. Finally she unfolded her arms and went to shove the boy out of the way.Her arms extended, Travis stepped to the side then grabbed her by her wrist, then knelt down and pulled the girl over his shoulder. Ignoring her protests and trying his best to not be kneed in the face he ran over to the edge of the rooftop, stepped up onto the small ledge and then squeezed Aaron’s thigh asking for her attention.“Don’t freak out, I promise you’ll be fine. If you scream we’ll just be noticed by the cops so stay as calm as you can,” Aaron continued shouting for him to let her go, Travis rolled his eyes again, knowing he’d have to get to his bike as quickly as he could.

“Alright, here we go,” he pushed from the ledge and went up in the air a few feet, out over the edge of the building, then he was falling, falling so fast Aaron didn’t have time to scream. Travis pulled the girl into his arms, bridal style so his shoulder wouldn’t jam into her stomach upon landing. She wrapped her arms around his neck and dug her face into his shoulder. Before she knew it they had landed, she peered out from the boys shoulder, then looked up at him. He was looking down at her, one eyebrow raised in an “I told you so” expression. She scoffed and removed her arms from his neck, he placed her on her feet and kept a small grip on her to make sure she didn’t get dizzy or sick and fall. She looked up at the boy with a small grin on her lips. The boy suddenly became very uncomfortable with the look on her face.“Why are you looking at me like that? I got us down here safely didn’t I?”Aaron was silent and closed her eyes, she took a deep breath then without warning smacked Travis across the face so hard his head turned. Satisfied she walked down the alleyway towards the parking lot of the hospital. “I guess I deserved that,” he muttered to himself, rubbing his swollen cheek and jogging to catch up with the girl.“Look! There she is!” shouted one of the half dozen black uniformed guards, they all now were running from the doors of the hospital towards the couple that had just emerged from the alley. Insertlinehere The doctor had Casey change into a paper gown, she wasn’t very comfortable with the idea of her ass hanging out for everyone to see so she left on her panties and her bra… just incase. She did as she was requested and sat up on the ‘bed’ that was covered with a sheet of paper.“Hold out your right hand please,” asked the doctor with a childlike smile, apparently this was supposed to make his patients feel more comfortable. She held out her right arm and he gently grasped it, looking over the small nick’s and cuts from the glass he put on a pair of glasses, pulled a light over and grabbed a set of tweezers.“I see some glass is still imbedded in your skin, I’m just going to pull out what I can, it may sting a little.” “yea yea sure, whatever,” Casey rolled her eyes and looked around the room at the framed pictures children had drawn him. ‘Thanks for helping my daddy’ was written on one of them, the writing was sloppy she guessed a four year old must’ve given it to him. She heard small clatters of glass on metal as he pulled some of the glass shards from her hand and dropped them into a small tin bowl. She began the kick the side of the bed with the heels of her feet, swinging her feet out then letting them drop back, in a rhythm only she could hear.“Alright, looks like I got it all out of your hand, I’m going to check your arm now,” the girl nodded, not listening or caring about what he said. A few minutes passed, all one could hear was the occasional glass on metal, the ticking of the clock and the pounding of her feet on the hollow wood bed. “Alright, all done with that, feel better?” Casey moved her arm and flexed her fingers, for show, then nodded.“Yep, thanks doc, much better,” she shuffled to get off the table. “whoa whoa wait, not through yet,” Casey pushed herself back onto the table and clicked her tongue. Damn hospitals were annoying.

The doctor gently grasped her arm again and bent it back and fourth.“Does this hurt?”“Nope”He grabbed her hand and slowly pushed it back.“That?”
Casey shook her head, confused the doctor pushed back on it more, waiting for her to tell him to stop.

“Nothing?”“Nada.”He let go of her hand and then grabbed a wet cloth.“I’m going to bandage up your arm, then you’re free to leave.“Yippee.”

He washed her dirty, blood covered arm slowly until it looked as good as new, he was pretty sure she hadn’t had a good shower in a while. Once her arm was clean he rubbed on some antiseptic then wrapped the arm up tightly, clipping the ends down once he was finished.“There we go, you’ll be good as new soon. If you take a shower I suggest you take the bandage off, otherwise it wont dry right and will begin to smell foul.”“Right-o doc. Thanks.”She jumped from the table, and grabbed her clothes that were splayed on a chair by the door, the doctor left the room to let her get dressed. She threw off the paper gown and put on her shabby, torn clothes. “Damn, I need to get a new outfit.”Once she finished she walked out into the hall, towards the waiting area where she hopped that Tiffany girl still was. She wouldn’t mind bathing at her place, and maybe borrowing some clothes before she took off to sort out a few things. As she came near a corner she stopped short when a girl had almost ran into her, she was running rather fast and apologized for the near accident. Casey didn’t like her doctor, she thought he was pretty rude, acting so nice and nonchalant. It unnerved her, and now she almost got tackled by some girl who seemed to be running from something, or to somebody. Her suspicion was answered when she turned a corner and saw a cop running towards her, he swerved around the corner, calling for the girl to stop. She shrugged and walked on, down the hall past a group of people huddled around a room with a flat lined woman inside. It was then Casey realized, if she had died, just dropped dead at this moment, she’d have no one huddled outside of her hospital room mourning her. Thinking of her and of how great she was. She suddenly felt very alone. She pushed open the door to the waiting room and looked at Tiff. She raised her bandaged arm and sighed.“Happy now? Lets go.”

They both walked outside and greeted P.J. who had just made it to the building after searching long and hard for a parking spot.Insertlinehere
“Come on,” Travis grabbed her wrist and pulled her through the maze of cars, the cops were slowly gaining on them. “Where did you park?”
Travis fell silent and skimmed the car lot, looking for his bike.

“Well?”“I don’t know,” he said in a low voice, ashamed of his mistake.

“What kind of car do you have?”Aaron got on her tip toes, holding onto Travis’s shoulder for support.“It’s a bike, a motorcycle, black with grey flames, they’re outlined -”“In orange?”“Yea how’d you know?”“I see it, but it’s about seven lanes over and one, two, three, four… five down.”“Seven over, five down. Got it,” he cracked his knuckles, “Get on my back.”“Excuse me?”“Get on my back, it’ll be a lot faster.”Aaron looked back to see the cops were uncomfortably close, and knew Travis probably knew what he was talking about.“Today please,” he snorted.“Alright alright.”She stepped behind him and placed her hands on his shoulders, then jumped wrapping her legs around his middle. He put his arms around her legs then entwined his fingers behind his back, beneath her rear, supporting her more.He broke off into a run, the thought ‘seven over, five down’ never left his mind. Once he got to seven he turned to go down and noticed the police had called backup because their numbers had tripled. They were surrounded, and Travis didn’t want them to know what vehicle was his, cause he’d end up having to ditch it.He turned up the lane and sprinted, the police followed like moths to the flame. He zigzagged between vehicles and ran into the parking structure being only three stories tall he knew he’d have to give the police the slip soon.Up on the second floor he put Aaron back down on her feet and grabbed her wrist. He walked up to a car and pulled on the handle, it didn’t open. “We need a place to hide, quick. Find a car that’s not locked,” Aaron nodded and ran between cars, yanking at the handles she could hear the footsteps of the police get louder as they closed in. Now absentmindedly pulling at the handles, she yanked at one and the door flew open, she almost slammed it shut before realizing what she found.“Hey! Over here!” she whispered, not wanting their pursuers knowing of their plan. He ran over and waited until she got in, she pulled the lever on the side of the seat and pushed it back, making it flat. He climbed in and pulled the door as closed as he could without it making a noise. Only if you had paid a lot of attention would you notice the door was sticking out about a millimeter. Travis was lying on top of Aaron who was too nervous of being caught to care. They heard the cops storm by and shine their light into the back window of the car, but they kept charging forward.“Maybe they took the elevator to the basement sir!” “Aww shit I bet you’re right, ok you five take the elevator, the rest of us will cut them off at the ramp.”“Yes sir.”They all fled, doing as they were told. Travis exhaled, shaking his head and sitting up. Aaron began to giggle, glad they weren’t caught. Even though they were right under their noses.“Ok, we’ll just get to the bike as fast, but as careful as we can. Lets make it so they don’t notice us.”“Ok, sounds good, but how?” “Well, we used their car… maybe they wont mind us borrowing a coat and jacket?” Travis said, peering to the backseat where conveniently enough there were a few jackets and hats littered along the seat, “and by borrow I mean taking with the want to return but never actually doing so.”“Ah I see, well, sounds good to me. Lets hurry.”They grabbed at the things and shoved them on. Travis had tucked the bottom of his long black jacket into his belt, making his new brown jacket poof out oddly. Aaron on the other hand thought the one she found was adorable and really suited her, plus she gave up her favorite jacket. Now she was glad she had another to take its place. They pulled on the hats, Travis’s red hair hidden, made it a lot less obvious they were the culprits. Aaron tucked her long brown hair into the jacket and placed a ball cap on. “How do I look? She asked as she emerged from the car, she spun around and laughed.“You look like you’re running from the police in disguise,” stated Travis, walking back toward the exit of the car lot.
“Funny, yea real cute,” she said trailing after him. Insertlinehere
They watched as the cops walk from the car garage, they walked down the ramp that led to the basement of the garage. “Think someone stole a car?”“Perhaps.”“Hope it wasn’t ours.”“Like someone would steal that piece of shit.”They walked onward, Casey looking around at the city that was busier than she ever imagined it would be, and it was rather beautiful for a city that had been bombed severely during the war. They walked up the garage steps, not wanting to take the elevator which let off a smell so foul you’d end up back in the hospital. They walked to the car in a comfortable silence, everyone swimming in their own thoughts. Casey got in the back of the vehicle, P.J. took the drivers seat and Tiff was shotgun. They slowly drove from the hospital garage, in the same equal silence. P.J. flipped on the radio and let the tunes disrupt the comfortable but lingering silence that had been swallowing them all morning.“Who’s hungry?” asked P.J., he hadn’t had food in a few hours and wouldn’t of minded going somewhere to eat.“I could eat,” replied the girl in the backseat, staring out of her window at the city that had changed so much.“Same here,” said Tiffany, swiping lip gloss onto her cherry lips, smacking them together she screwed the tip back on and dropped it back into her bag.P.J. decided to treat them to a nice meal, one that would fill you to the rim, but wouldn’t empty your wallet. He took off for his destination with nothing but the plate he planned on ordering on his mind.“Hey Tiffany,” Called Casey, Tiff turned the radio down and looked up in the rearview mirror“Yea?”
“You guys mind if I go back to your place afterward and shower and all that stuff?” Tiffany didn’t really want the girl to be with them too much longer, P.J. and herself didn’t have enough money for another person to enter their lives at this time.“Sure, I’ll look into a few places for you to stay tonight, we’ll drop you off wherever you need to go tomorrow. Sound good?”“Sounds great,” Casey answered with a smile on her face. One thing that bummed her out was the fact her bracelet seemed to of disappeared. She wondered if it was left back in her time, if it was on the roof and she just disappear and the construction workers found it and pawned it off. Or worse, that boy from the church had claimed it as his own.Casey exhaled and pinched the bridge of her nose with her fingers. Her bracelet still had to exist somewhere, right? Even if it wasn’t in this city, or country, it still had to be around somewhere. She really needed to find it. Maybe it would be at a museum of some sort, or some private collector bought it somewhere. Hell, it could be at the dump. The possibilities were endless and only ended up giving Casey a headache.“Hey Casey, could you pass up my jacket and cap?” asked P.J. the rain first started as a light sprinkle but now it was getting heavier and heavier. “Yea sure, where is it?”“Right there on the seat.”“You must’ve forgotten it cause it isn’t here.” “No, I keep that jacket and cap in the car for when it rains, it hasn’t seen my apartment in months.”Casey shrugged, she didn’t know what to tell the guy.“Is my jacket back there?” asked Tiffany, “or my hat?”“Nope, nothing but this hoodie you guys let me borrow.”“Shit! I thought something was wrong, my seat was pushed too far forward when I got in, I figured it had shifted or something while you were climbing out Casey, but now I guess we were robbed.”P.J. sighed and gritted his teeth.“That was my favourite cap too! Assholes!” InsertlinehereThey finally made it to the bike, looking over their shoulders they didn’t see a cop in sight. Travis got on and pulled the keys from the inside pocket of his jacket. Aaron hesitated but still got onto the bike, she sat comfortably behind Travis and wrapped her arms around his middle. He handed her the helmet and she put it on, once her hands were back in place, he started the bike, kicked up the stand and took off. Not caring if they were gathering attention, in just a moment they’d be free of the place. He skidded out into the street and swerved right, speeding down the road between cars and trucks. Then a thought hit Travis like a brick wall, where was he supposed to go? After going down the street a few more miles, he pulled into a parking lot of a store and turned the bike off.“I don’t know where to go,” he said.“To your place? They’ll check out my place ‘cause they have my address.”Travis closed his eyes and exhaled. He pushed back the hair that had fallen in front of his right eye again. “I don’t have a ‘place’, I uh… just got here.”“I see, well in that case we could go to my friends house, but I don’t think she’d be very happy with our situation.”“Who would?”“True… or, we could just go get a hotel room and think everything out a little more?”“Sounds good, where’s the hotels?”“Pike street, I suggest you park the bike two streets over, its only five bucks for overnight. The hotels charge like mad.”“Parking doesn’t come with the room?”“Nope, its about $15”“Alright, just lead the way.”“Gotcha”They got back onto the street, Aaron shouting directions to him as they made their way to their destination. The sun was up, in the afternoon sky lighting up the city, windows gleamed and birds cawed. Travis had no difficulty finding the parking lot, once parked and paid for they made their way to hotel row. Several buildings had old bullet holes in the bricks, many were now deserted, windows shattered and doors boarded up. “Whoa, I haven’t been down here since the war… it’s changed so much.”“Yea, I’ve been meaning to ask, what happened?”“Excuse me?”
“Yea, You’ll probably think I’m insane, but I’m from around here, I know pike’s street. But I’m not from this particular point in time. It looks as if World War Three had gone down and I happened to miss it.”“Right, well, ok how about we find somewhere to talk about this, not out in the middle of the street. Oh yay, another thing to top off my wonderful day, its raining.”Aaron walked off in a not so good mood, Travis wondered if he had said something wrong and followed her into an alleyway, she walked up to a bright red door with a bright purple neon sign hanging over it called ‘Paco’s. This, he figured, was the place she wanted to talk about the matter at hand. He walked forward and she knocked on the door.It was only a minute or so until the door handle jiggled and the door swung open, letting a cloud of steam bellow from the doorway. The sound of pots and pans clanging around was loud and the people inside were shouting out food orders and numbers. “Hey Paco, long time no see!” said Aaron with a smile on her face.“’ey Aaron! You got taller man!” the large man stepped from the door and hugged Aaron tightly. Travis wondered if she’d need to be disinfected now. The man was large both in height and girth, and he was sweaty, covered in cooking oil and had an untamed goatee that shimmered with what must’ve been sweat and oil combined, likely a little alcohol too.“Come in! Come in!” he said waving in the couple, “How is dear Rosie?” he asked, he loved Aaron’s mother, she was the one that helped him with his restaurant. “Well, That’s why I had stopped by here Paco, she passed this morning,” the excitement drained from the man’s face and he stared at Aaron before hugging her tightly again, this time he was crying. “She was a wonderful, beautiful ambitious woman and she will be missed,” his deep voice boomed between sobs. Aaron patted the large mans back and a tear fell down her face.Once he had finished sobbing the large man stood up and wiped his face with a small white towel dangling from his apron. “Who is this?” he asked, nodding towards Travis.“Ah, this is my friend, he escorted me from the hospital. Nice enough to give me a ride.” Travis stepped forward with his hand held out.“Travis, nice to meet you,” he said.“Paco, likewise,” the large man’s hand swallowed Travis’s as they shook hands Travis thought his arm would be ripped off, “how about I treat you both to lunch?”“That sounds great,” they said together. Paco led them to a booth in the back corner of the restaurant. Eyes followed them, partly because of Paco, and partly because of Travis’s vibrant red hair.Insertfinallineherewee chapter 3 done..
