Riches and Fame Aren't Everything

"Hmm.." Kenny said as he looked over the newspaper. One ad caught his eye. Team for Australian Tournament. 5 members on each Beyblading team.

"We need another member. Sad, isn't it?" He asked his team-mates as he showed them the ad. "Yeah. Sucks. We better find one." Tyson added. "I'm off to the park then!" He raced out of the room and left them. "Well, somebody's gotta keep him under control." Ray laughed and zoomed off. "Better go then." Max stated as he left. "See ya Kai." Kenny apologized as he left too. Kai shrugged and left too. At the park, Tyson was checking out the bladers. One caught his eye. "What about her Ray?" "Oooh! She looks good and looks good at Bey-blading too!" He blushed as he said this. "Wow, Ray. Checking out the girls, not the blades." "Just like me." Ray said weakly. "Yo, what's up?" Max caught up to them. His eye landed on the girl, who was standing battling everyone who challenged her. "I'll go battle her." Tyson ran off yet again. "Hey, you, girl!" "What do you want?" She asked him looking very annoyed. "I wanna battle ya!
"Oh please! An amateur like you against me? I'm looking for a challenge." "I am!" "Fine." She yawned. "3! 2! 1! Let it rip!" She launched her blade into the ring and so did Tyson. "Drazera! Attack!" Her bit-beast appeared and attacked Dragoon. Tyson's blade flew out of the ring. "See? No challenge at all!" "She's the one!" He whispered to Max. "Yup." "Girl. Come here." Kai spoke up. "What do you want, Mr High and Mighty?" "To ask you to join the Bladebreakers." "Sure!" Her attitude seemed to perk up a bit then. "I'm Katie Tachikawa by the way." "THE Katie Tachikawa?" Kenny asked her loudly. "Yeah." "Oh my god! The Katie Tachikawa who is famous for horse-riding and bey-blading?" "Yes." "Wow." "Care to introduce me?" "Yes! I'm Tyson. This is Kai. That's Kenny. Oh, he's Max. And, this is Ray." He shoved him forward. "Tyson, what the hell are you doing?" He shoved him back. "My, my, feisty are we?" Katie said, tossing her golden-blonde hair over her shoulder. She had a mischievous glint in her emerald green eyes. "Oh ha ha. Katie." He teased her. "Anyway, do you guys want to go horse riding sometime? I could teach you." "Sure, Katie. It'll be fun." They arrived at the Keira Hotel and traveled up to Room 203. "Tomorrow, do you want to go?" "Okay."

The day became night and Katie walked out onto the balcony and propped her elbows on the rail and put her face in her cupped hands. "Sure, is beautiful isn't it?" A voice came out. "Yes, it is. Ray. I'm sorry if I was mean to you earlier. I'm not good with teams.." "it's okay. Care to tell me why?" "Alright. But don't tell anyone. It was two years ago."

Flashback

"Katie. You aren't fit for this team. You're rude to everyone, you snap at everyone and you are crazy!" "I'm not." Younger Katie sobbed. "I'm not." "You are. Leave the team or else." "I can't. I need to earn a living with a team you know." "You can't here." "Katie, you chose the option or else." Suddenly a fist came flying forward and it hit her in the face. Younger Katie came home, bloody, bruised and beaten.

End Flashback

"That's what happened." Katie began crying and almost fell over if Ray hadn't caught her. "Thanks Ray. I feel better to get that off my chest." "Katie. I can't believe that happened." "Then, they said when they thought I was knocked out. `I guess I win 500 dollars. I told you she wouldn't last for more than five days.' Ray, it was horrible." "Katie. I feel so sorry for you." "Ray, you guys won't do that to me will you?" "No, Katie. I don't think any of us will." "Thank the lord." "Amen to that." Ray joked around. Katie smiled a weak smile. "Tell me about your team-mates." "Tyson, he likes to eat a lot, sleep a lot, and bey-blade a lot. He can be a little annoying, but you'll get used to him. Max, he likes to eat and battle. He's always cheerful and happy. Kai, he is wise and quiet. You never see him smile, unless it's an insane one, or laugh." "Okay. Thank you Ray." "I guess I'm the wise, kind loving one then." "You are joking, right?" "Hey!"
"Joking!" She kidded. Katie looked back at the stars again, and didn't even notice that Ray was still holding her and little did they know, two brown eyes were watching. Tyson.

The next morning, Katie and Ray slept in. They didn't tell anyone why. When, Katie woke up, Ray was waking up too. He was wearing a white undershirt and baggy black pants. "Better get breakfast before Tyson eats all of it." He mumbled. Katie got dressed and left. "Hey guys." She greeted her team-mates. "Ooo, Katie, so tell us, what were you and Ray doing last night?" Tyson teased her. She blushed. "Nothing. I couldn't sleep so I went outside and he came out. I told I was sorry for acting like a bitch to him earlier. I told him I don't have good experience with teams. He asked why and I told him but asked him not to tell anyone else. I started crying and I almost fell over so he caught me. We talked for a while longer and that's all that happened, okay?" She explained. "Right." Clearly he did not believe her. "You can even ask him. It's all that happened! I like Ray as a friend! I've only known him for a day, remember?" "I will ask him." Ray came downstairs just then. "What happened last night between you and Katie?" "Nothing." Then he explained the same thing Katie did. "Damnit." Tyson came back. "You promised to go horse riding today!" "Okay." "You poop. You have to." "Okay." "Come on." "No! There's still two more courses!" "I'll make you. If you don't I'll get Max to tongue you!" "Eww!" He jumped off and ran off to the riding track. "This is the riding track. Tyson, you take Diablo. He's that horse over there. Max, you take, Spot, the Appaloosa over there! Kai, you take Black Beauty over there and Ray, you take Tiger over there. I'll take Chocolate, my normal horse." She showed them how to groom and tack up the horses. Then she showed them how to trot, walk, and canter. "Now come on." They left the tack room and lead the horses out to the track. "I have to practice." She gave her horse a little kick. It began galloping straight away. Katie galloped around the whole track and came back to Kai, Tyson, Max and Ray. "Come on guys." She laughed and squeezed the reins on Ray's horse. It began trotting. She did the same to the others. Tyson shouted, "Race ya to the end!" "You're on!" Katie began trotting her horse and she still won. She was at home where she should be. On the track with a horse. "To gallop, give it a little kick." They all practiced and then Katie said, "NOW, let's have a race. 3! 2! 1! Let's ride!" She kicked Chocolate and she raced around the track and won the race by a mile. "Katie, you really are good." Max said admirably. "Thank you Maxy." "I think we should leave." Katie said as she walked off to the tack room, leading Chocolate. She showed them how to un-tack, and feed them.

"That was fun." Exclaimed Tyson. "We should do it again sometime." "Okay!" They left and they arrived at the hotel at night time. Katie waited for their snores and left the room quietly. She walked upstairs onto the roof. She sat down with her legs underneath her chin. "Katie." "Ray, why do we always seem to meet at night?" "We just do." He said with a smile. Ray sat down next to her. "My life is a whirl, Ray. It's complicated. I can't take it. Today, I thought I saw one of my old team-members. Keiko Keira." "I feel so sorry." "I'll have to give up something sooner or later. Horse riding or bey-blading. I think I've decided." "You're not gonna give up horse riding?!" "I am. I can take it back up after I quit blading." "Katie, that is your past, your present and your future." "I have to Ray." "Let's change the subject. Who else was on your team?" "Well, there was Keiko Keira. She was strong. And Mika Misashi. I can't forget, Lekane Luna. He was scary and the one who almost killed me."

"Why?" "I don't know. Maybe it's because I was better than they were. Or something." She added hastily. "Katie, you rock at bey-blading." "I don't. I suck." "No." "I love sitting out here and talking. It's so peaceful." "It is." "Ray..I can hear someone." "Where?" "Over there." She pointed and a cloaked figure popped out from the shadows. A knife came flying at them. "Ray! Watch out!" Katie screamed. She jumped in front of him and the knife hit her stomach. "No! Katie!" He picked up the unconscious girl, who was bleeding in the stomach. Gotta get her to a hospital now! "Ray? Ray! Where are you?" Tyson's voice called out. "There you are! Oh my god, Katie!" "A guy came out and threw a knife at me, but she jumped in front of me and it hit her." "Come on." He ran down many flights of stairs and into the car park. Tyson found a red ferrari and found a hair clip in Katie's hair. He picked the lock and jumped in. "Tyson! What are you doing?" "Taking the car. The dude will understand." "Okay." Ray shrugged and jumped in the back seat. He lay her down and sat down next to her. Keys were sitting in the car. "You don't even know how to drive!" "Meh. It'll be easy." Tyson shrugged. He put the keys in and drove to the hospital. On the way, he hit a few trees, mailboxes and bushed but that did no damage, except a few broken windows. "Great." Ray coughed. "Driving, Tyson." He grinned and Ray picked Katie up and ran into the hospital. "Knife." He panted to the nurse who pointed towards a room. A Doctor came in. Her name was, Dr Johnson. "Hello. Ow, that's got to hurt. Hold on." She pulled the knife out and put Katie on a stretcher and wheeled her to operation. "I need to stitch her up." After one hour she was done. Katie was awake in Critical Care. She opened her eyes and her vision was blurred. She saw yellows, greens, oranges, blue, reds, white and blacks all mixing together. "Katie! You're awake!" Ray said. "How did I get here?" She croaked. "Tyson..drove you here. Not very well." Katie smiled. "Thank you Ray. I would've died. Thank you Tyson." Katie sat up and gave Ray a kiss on the cheek and Tyson a kiss on the cheek too. Ray blushed deeply and Tyson put his hand behind his head and grinned. "Shucks." "Ray? Maybe I should tell them what happened. And why it happened?" "Alright." "You see, I was on an old team. And they told me I was too bossy, rude, snappy and mad to be on a team. Then they beat me up and when they thought I was knocked out, they said, `I told you she wouldn't last more than five days. Hand over the $500.' It was horrible. That's why I hate teams." "Katie! I never knew. I knew a team though, Mika Misashi, Keiko Keira, Lekane Luna and Katie Tachikawa. But I never knew it was you." Chief said. "Well now you do, so I better pack because I know you're going to kick me off the team." Katie started crying a little. "Katie Tachikawa! I thought you were stronger than that. You're a great blader and we would never kick you off the team." A surprising voice spoke up. "Kai.." Katie said, her eyes simmering with tears. "Thank you. You of all people. I never guess you'd give me advice." "Well, I did." "Thanks." "Katie, you'll be allowed out of the hospital tomorrow." The Doctor said, as she came inside the room. "Alright." "Listen, you kids better be getting some rest. It's nine o' clock. Come visit your friend tomorrow." She shooed the out. "Bye Tyson! Max! Kai! Kenny! Good bye Ray!" She waved and the doctor picked up a spoon, filled it with medicine, and made Katie drink it. She fell asleep instantly. The Bladebreakers were leaving the hospital in the car. "Tyson. Let me drive." Kai said. "Alright." He grinned. Soon, they were at home. "You know, let's send Katie things to cheer her up." Max suggested. "Okay." So they left the hotel for the mall. When they arrived there, because they walked, Max walked into a flower shop. "Mr Dickinson, sent us 10, 000 yen." "How did he get that much money?" "Don't ask me." "He picked out a bunch of orange flowers, like his clothes. Tyson picked out some pretty red roses, Kenny picked out some purple petunias, Kai, who had come along, picked out some blue flowers. Ray, picked out a whole bunch of different kinds of roses. Yellows, whites, reds and pinks. "Oh. You like her, don't you?" Tyson teased him. "No." He blushed.

Then, they went to a candy store.

Max, who wasn't on a sugar high and eating everything in sight, bought her a box of chocolates. The boys did the same except different brands. They went home after that. The next day, when Katie woke up, a nurse had walked in. "Girl, you have some good friends." She pulled in a cart, which, Max had filled up more with balloons and cards, had been decorated with what the boys bought. "It's not like I saved the president or anything." Still, she opened cards, closed them, opened things, looked at them, smelt things, ate things, and ripped things. "Oh, and your friends said they would come in at ten o' clock. And it's nine thirty. I'll do your hair." "Thanks." The nurse brushed it and tied it up in a plait. The door opened. "We thought we'd come early." Ray spoke up. "Ray!" "Don't forget about us." "Tyson! Max! Kenny!" "And Kai!" "Thanks for the gifts. I loved them. They cheered me right up." "Good." Max said, who was eating a pixie-stick. Katie sighed and said, "But it's not liked I saved the president." "Yeah, but you saved Ray. And he's our team-mate." "Yeah." She smiled wanly. More than a team-mate to me.. She thought. Way more. "Guys! We've got a battle to get to!" Kenny almost yelled. "Go on then," Katie said, "I'll stay here." Ray said. "Ray, you don't have to." "I do. I insist." "Ray.. I can't let you." "I insist." He growled. "Okay!" She laughed. "I think I'll leave you two alone." The nurse said. "What was that for?" Katie stared at her in amazement. "I know." "What then? Tell me." "I can't. I don't wanna either." "But I'm your friend." She pressed on. "Alrightttttt! She meant in a love way. Like, I'll leave you two alone." "Oh my god! You don't like me like that!" "What if I did?" "You wouldn't Ray." "What if I did?" he repeated. Katie finally got it. "You like me?" "Yes, Katie, I do. I love you more than anything in the whole wide world." "You do? I mean, I love you too, Ray." "You do, Katie?" "Yes." "Ok." Katie sat up in her bed and Ray leaned in and kissed her. "Ray! We just found out that there's no batt-'' Tyson came bursting in the door as they were kissing. They broke apart when he said, "Oh." He grinned. "I guess we shouldn't have left you here alone." Katie and Ray both blushed madly. "We like each other.. a lot." Ray explained. "You know?" "I know!" Max said. "I used to like Emily! AGES ago." Everyone's expression was like this- o_0 and they all fell anime style, legs in the air. "What?" Max shrugged. After they all got up off the floor, "You used to like Emily?" "Got a problem?" "Yes!" Everyone chorused. "Okay."

"I've got these friends, right? They're name's are Beth, Hilary and Lena. Beth likes Kai, Hilary loves Max and Lena has a major crush on Tyson!" Tyson and Max both sweatdropped whereas Kai smirked. "What do they look like?" "Beth has long brown hair and crystal blue eyes. Hilary has shiny black hair and brown eyes. She has darker skin than the rest but she's beautiful and Lena? She's got a lot of wavy red hair and green eyes. Lena also has freckles dancing on her face. They're all perfect for you." "Wow." Tyson was drooling at his mouth and Max looked like he was daydreaming. "Guys! I could call them up if you want." "Yeah. Cool." Katie picked up the phone that was beside her bed and dialed in a number. "Heya Beth! Come to St Vincent's Hospital, Japan now! You can meet you-know-who if you do." "WOW! I'm there!" Ten seconds later there was a knock at the door. "Katie!" A girl with long brown hair ran in and hugged her. "Are you okay?" "Other than the fact than I've been stabbed with a knife yes, I'm okay." The girl noticed a boy wearing a Chinese-like style outfit standing next to the bed. "Oh my god! Are you Ray?" "Yes." He nodded. "Wow! Are you going out with Katie yet?" Katie's eyes widened and Ray blushed. "Yes." He mumbled. "Wow! Go Katie! You did it!" How did she get here so fast? "BETH! BE QUIET!" Katie wailed. "Oh? Okay." She rushed over to Kai. "You're Kai, aren't you?" He nodded. "I LOVE YOU!" Everyone blinked. "She sure doesn't have much trouble admitting her feelings." Tyson said. "Yeah." "Katie! Hilary and Lena are here too!" "They are?!" "Yes!" There was a sharp knock at the door and two very pretty girls entered. "Kateals!" A redhead wailed. "You alright?" "Yes Lena. I'm fine. Don't call me that." "Ah! Katie! You could've called earlier." A girl with brown skin shrieked as she set down a bouquet of flowers. She quieted and looked around the room. The girl spotted a familiar boy with spiky blonde hair. "OH MY GOD!" She screamed. "IS THAT MAX?" "Katie, why didn't you tell me you were on their team?" "Cause I didn't." "And is that Ray?" "Yes." She smiled. The girl nudged her. "Is he yours?" "Yes." "Ooo!" "Hilary!" "So, you're Hilary?" Max was next to her in a flash. "I'm Max." "Oh, Max! I'm Hilary." "And I'm Lena." She cooed to Tyson. "Wow!" Ray smirked at Katie. "Of course they'd want those girls." He winked. "But I got you." He hugged her. "Aww, thanks Ray." She hugged him back. "I think I got the best guy on this team. And from the whole entire world." "Katie! You are allowed to leave now." The nurse came in and said. "Okay." She gathered up her things and Ray said, "Guys? Me and Katie are going to go for a walk now. Okay?" "Okay." Tyson and Max were too obsessed with the new girls to care. Kai, who still had Beth hanging off him, said, "Go ahead." Katie wheeled her things out of the room, with Ray in tow. He asked to see her scar. "Alright." She lifted up her shirt and showed Ray. "Oh. I'm glad I know why you saved me." "Good. I hope you would've done the same for me." "Katie, of course I would." She smiled happily. Just then, a girl with pink hair came charging down the street. "Ray!" She ran over and hugged him. Ray said quietly, "Get off me Mariah." "Why Ray?" "BECAUSE!" Katie replied quietly, "Ray, is what I think is going on, GOING ON?" "No Katie. It's not what you think." "Ray, who's this? Why's she with you?" "She's with me Mariah, because she." But he was cut off by Katie .

"Ray? Is this Mariah? Your friend? Or your girlfriend? Because that's what it looks like!" Katie shouted as she ran off crying. "Mariah! I love her, now you made her think I don't." "You love me though." "No, I love Katie." Ray shouted as he ran off after Katie. He found her in a dark alleyway crying her eyes out. "Go away Ray!" She shouted. "I love you. Mariah is only a child hood friend." "Really?" "Yes." To prove it, he kissed her passionately and hugged her. "Hopefully, when we're older, we'll have little Ray's and Katie's running around. Black hair, green eyes, blonde hair, gold eyes. Or maybe, they'll look just like us." "I hope so." He whispered in her ear. "Yay." Katie smiled happily.

Five years later, Katie and Ray were still going strong. "Katie!" He kissed her. "Ray! What's wrong? I can tell something's wrong by your face." "Katie. Follow me." He took her out to the balcony and said, "Katie," he opened a jewelers box, "will you marry me?" "Ray!" She threw her arms around him. "Of course I will. I love you too much, too not to. I even remember when I first saw you."

Flashback

A little girl, no younger than eight, was watching TV. "Here we have little Ray with his bit-beast, Driger." "Ray.." He's so dreamy. I love him! Wow! "Ray.. I'll never forget him."

End Flashback

"Well, I remember when I first met you." "Yeah, probably thinking, what a snob." "NO!"

Flashback

"On Chocolate Sundae taking up the lead, is Katie Tachikawa! No younger than eleven years old, this girl is an expert." Ray was watching TV also, when he saw her first. He was bored and was skipping channels. "And she wins the Kentucky Derby!" Wow. How cool is that! I wanna do that too!

End Flashback

"You saw me win that? That win sucked." "Did not!" Did too!" "NOT!" "TOO! Anyway, Kai is marrying Beth. He asked her." "Wow. Kai!" "Yeah, I know. When are we gonna get married?" "Soon!" "Okay." "I'll be with you forever." Ray said happily. "Good." "Why?" "Because I'll never leave you."

"Ray.. riches and fame aren't everything. I hope you aren't marrying me for that." "I'm not."

"Good. I love you Ray.." "I love you Katie." "Tomorrow, everyone's coming down. I sorta promised them, okay?" "Okay." He laughed. When today became tomorrow, the doorbell rang at eleven o' clock. "Hey Kateroo! Ray!" "Maxy! Hilary!" Katie laughed. "Nice house, Katie. Very big." Hilary complimented her. Indeed it was. It was the size of a mansion. "Thanks." She glanced at Ray and took Hilary by the arm. "Have I got good news, or what!" The two girls left the room. "I can't believe it's been eight years." Max stated. "Yeah." "Mind telling me the good news?" "Oh.. that." "Well?!" "Um.. I asked Katie to marry me and she said yes!" "About time." The bell rang just then. "Ray! Open the damn door!" A familiar voice yelled. "Quit your belly-aching, Tyson!" Ray opened the door. Lena walked in, clutching Tyson's hand. "Katie's down the hall if you want to find her!" Ray instructed her. Suddenly a shriek ran through the big house. "Katie!" "Hilary!" Ray ran down the hall and turned into a room where Katie was smiling and Hilary had a shocked look on her pretty face. "What's wrong?" Ray ran over and held Katie in his arms. "I just told Hilary.. the news." "News? What news?" Lena shrieked. "What aren't you telling me, Katie Tachikawa?" "Tachikawa? Pardon? That's not my last name." Katie smiled innocently, waiting for it to sink in. "At least it won't be."

"Katie! Why didn't you tell me?!" Lena wailed. "He only asked yesterday." "Oh my god! I'm so happy for you." Lena walked over and hugged her. She was crying. "Good for you, Ray!" Tyson punched his arm in a friendly way. "The door!" Hilary cried. "Kai and Beth are here!" "YAY!" Lena shrieked as she ran out and opened the door. Katie followed and saw Beth pulling Kai up the path. "COME! ON! KAI!" When, she finally got him inside, Beth told everyone some happy news. Kai had confessed his feelings and had asked her to be his wife. "Oh, that's so sweet. Ray did the same. Except I already knew he loved me." Katie explained. She smiled at Ray who smiled back at her. Kai smirked and looked at Beth who was hanging onto his arm. "Beth.." He started. "Oh right! Sorry!" She giggled. Kai smirked again and said, "I'm glad Katie introduced us." "You're welcome, Kai." Katie spoke up. The doorbell rang again and when Ray opened it, there was Kenny accompanied by a very pretty girl. "Uh? Kenny?" "Oh, guys. This is Dizzi in her human form." He smiled. Dizzi had a short length of silver hair and grey eyes. "Hello everybody." Dizzi said. "What's up Diz?" "The sky." She smiled.

"Everyone is coupled up." Katie whispered. "Yeah." "Weird." "Yup." "Ray? I have something to tell you. Something very important." She looked very nervous and scared. "Alright." "Everybody, I just need to get something!" Katie called out. "Okay!" Tyson cried. "Come on." Katie walked upstairs and into Ray's and her room. "Ray." "What?" "I'm pregnant." I'm pregnant. I'm pregnant. I'm pregnant. I'm pregnant. I'm pregnant. Kept echoing in his mind. "Are you?" "Yes." She looked down. "Really?" "Yes." "That's great!" He tackled her onto the bed. "Ray! No! Get off me! Hey! THAT TICKLES!" She screamed and giggled at the same time. "Katie! When did you find out?" "Yesterday. When I was shopping." "Oh ok. It's still wonderful." "Yeah." There was silence. "Don't tell anyone, please?" "I won't." "Thank you." She began to lie down but Ray guided her head to his lap. "Ray.." She blushed. "Hehe." Ray said as he stroked her hair. "I love you." "I love you." "I love you more." "I do!" "I do!" "I do!" "I DO!" Katie shrieked. "I guess you win." He replied laughing. "I guess I do." "Katie! RAY!" Tyson yelled as he came into their room. "Come on!" He entered. "Oh.. never mind me then." Tyson winked. "No! That's not what's happening! I swear!" Katie shrieked as she ran downstairs after him, shouting death-threats along the way. "That's the girl I know and love." Ray murmured, smiling. He walked downstairs after her and when he got down there he looked at everyone. Lena in her purple-off-the-shoulder skivvy and jeans. Tyson wearing a white shirt and jeans. Kai wearing a black tank top and black jeans. Beth wearing a pretty purple tank top and skirt. Dizzi was wearing a silver dress and Kenny wearing purple shorts and a white top. Hilary was wearing an orange Piping Hot shirt and a mini skirt. Max wearing cut-offs and a red tank top. Finally, he looked at Katie, who was wearing a white tank top and a pink skirt with a pink sleeveless jacket over the top. She clearly stood out from the crowd. That's why he loved her.

"Katie!" She walked over, swaying her hips. "Yes?" "Should we tell everyone?" "Okay." She had suddenly gone all silent.

"Everyone! Everybody! Listen! KATIE HAS SOMETHING TO SAY!" Ray shouted.

"Everybody, I am pregnant." Katie said flatly as whispers shot around the room like gun shots. "Oh Katie!" Hilary ran over and hugged her. Lena and Beth followed her. Max was grinning, Tyson laughing, Kai smirking and Ray blushing. "I think it is great." Hilary smiled at her long time friend. "Yeah."
