Fan Fiction ❯ Runaway ❯ Chapter 11 ( Chapter 11 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Zac heard Taylor begin to play the beginning chords of "A Song To Sing", when he saw someone waving from offstage out of the corner of his eye. Glancing towards the person, he saw that is was the head of security. With one guilty glance at the fans, he leapt up and ran off stage. The security guard began to walk fast towards a room, and motioned him to follow.

"Wait here for a second, please," The man said, obviously used to telling people what to do.

Zac nodded, and waited to be let in. He could not help but to hear the conversation going on inside.

"Why am I here? I didn't do anything wrong, I swear! I didn't even bring a camera!"

"Calm down, miss. I just want you to know, that one false move, and you're out of here."

"But that's what I want! I want out of here!" The girl said, exasperated.

All of a sudden the door opened, and the security guard popped his head out.

"You can come in now."

Zac walked into the room. The girl had her back to him, and she was shaking a little bit. Zac cleared his throat and the girl jumped into to the air out of fright, and spun around. As soon as she saw him, she gasped and automatically looked down to her shoes.

"Why do you always do that?"

"Do what?" she mumbled quietly.

"Look down to the ground."

"I don't want anyone to see it," she said, her hand flying up to her cheek, her fingers tracing her scar.

"Your name is Kari, isn't it?"

This made her look up and stare at him in disbelief as she nodded and stuttered, "How - how did you know?"

Zac ignored her question, and asked her a question of his own, but one that he already knew the answer too.

"Would you mind telling me how you got that scar?"

Kari hesitated for a moment, and then sighed.

"My friend and I were coming home from a trip to the mall. I don't know what happened, but out of nowhere, my friend just fainted. The car drove off the road, and into a tree. A limb crashed through me window, and that's how I got... this," she said, gesturing to her face.

"What happened to your friend?"

"Her seatbelt broke, and she was somehow flung out the sunroof. She was unhurt, as far as I know."

"As far as you know?"

"Yeah." A spark of anger leapt into her gentle eyes. "After I made a full recovery, I started to ask about Angel. My parents told me that they would not let her in to see me. When I returned to school, I was informed that Angel thought that I was dead, for that was what everyone had told her." A tear slipped out of her watery eyes. "Angel ran away, because everyone made her feel so guilty. She had even tried to commit suicide, over her guilt." Kari paused to swallow down a sob. "I really miss her. I've been trying to find her, but no one will help. They all blame her for the accident, but it really wasn't her fault! She had been having headaches, and had been on the verge of fainting for weeks before it happened. It was really my fault for not making her go see a doctor!"

By now, Kari was holding onto Zac by his arm, looking into his eyes, begging him to believe her.

"Shhh. Don't cry. It wasn't your fault, and it wasn't Angel's fault. She had a pinched nerve in her brain, but it was fixed, and she is all better now," Zac said, pulling Kari into a hug.

Kari looked up at Zac with tears in her eyes.

"How do you know?"

"Because, she's been on tour with us for a couple of months now."

"But... how? Why? When?" Kari asked in a cascade of confusedness.

"It's a long story, and I'm sure Angel would rather tell you."

The two were silent for a few moments. Zac was enjoying the ecstasy of having Kari in his arms, and Kari was pondering over a question.

"Zac?" Kari asked, pulling away from him.

"Yeah?" he answered back, missing the feel of her in his arms.

"Why did you send for me? I don't get it. I'm just a girl you've never met with an ugly scar."

"Don't!" Zac yelled at her. Her eyes flew wide, and she took a step back. Zac took two steps forward, gently cupped her chin with his hand to make her look at him, looked deep into her eyes, and said passionately, "Don't say that! Everything about you is beautiful, even this scar! Nothing you can say will make me change the way I feel about you!"

Kari stared back at him with wonder in her eyes.

"I love you Kari!"

She shook her head, not wanting to believe him.

"I do! I swear to you! Angel has told me so much about you, that I feel as if I've known you forever. I fell in love with you the first time I ever saw a picture of you, but I never told anyone. What good was it to be madly in love with a dead girl? I didn't care though! My heart would not stop loving you! And then I saw you in the Meet and Greet room... and I fell in love with you all over again. My angel was alive, and now here you are..." Zac trailed off. He saw a slow smile creep up onto her face. He let go of his hold of her chin when he saw a tear drop fall from his face and land onto her cheek. He turned to walk away, but she would not let him. She grabbed his arms and looked up into his eyes.

"You do love me," she said with awe in her voice.

"With all of my heart," he said with a nod.

Before either of them really knew what had happened, they were deep within a kiss. So deep, that they did not even know that someone had opened the door, until they had heard the shriek.
