Part One - Four’s Company

Prologue

2005 --

Ray Gates and President Regis stood on the stadium. People crowded, eager for launch. Today was the day they would first activate the space gates.

The space gates were light beams, extending to other planets. Four gates were built on earth. Two were for leaving earth, and the other two for entering earth. All four were invented by Ray Gates.

Four humans had volunteered as test dummies. The four included three males and one female. Mr. Gates was playing with some wires on the control panel.

“It’s time, sir,” Ray replied.

“Good!” Regis shouted, “Time for launch!”

“Sir, there is one problem. The circuits can only hold up for eighteen years,” Ray whispered.

The president ignored him and pushed a red button. Flames shot from the back of the ship. It moved slowly. Finally, the front part of the ship entered the light patch. Then things went horribly wrong.

As the ship entered half way, it cracked. The ship split open and the four volunteers blew up. Ambulance and President Regis helped them out. Ray checked out the space gates.

“No, I accessed the nuclear cells instead of the space safe cells!” Ray shouted.

People were convinced Ray Gates did it all on purpose. After he fixed it properly, he was executed. Then the people used the space gates as transportation. Condos and cities were built on other planets. Thought, the eighteen year warning became forgotten...
