Shattered Sunrise

I stare off into the multicolored sky, remembering the different sky colors that once graced your shimmering, raven locks. My eyes fall to the distant horizon; almost believing you will come running back to me. Arms wide open and ready to embrace my form. How I wish to feel you again, hear your voice, see you smile… Tears claim my eyes as I stare off, waiting for you to come through the bright horizon light. An absent hand rests upon the ivory muzzle of your mare. Her amber eyes look off to where mine look. We both want you back; we miss you so much. I do not notice as the salty liquid spills down my tan cheeks. My fingers clench around the leather reigns of your horse. How could it be, you will never be by my side again? It was just today we were on the road again, side by side to meet what challenges we came to face with. Then, an outlaw's group came to claim our belongings. Ones we did not own… You and I fought bravely, but as the battle closed… God, I can even vision your face, your eyes full of horror as the last bullet pierced your back. The crimson life's blood spilling from the hole the metal object created. The male that killed you, I slayed with my blade. He will never see light, banished to hell for what he did this early morning. I remember… Holding your form in my arms, your blood spilling around us as you breathed your final breaths. Telling me to live on, and to meet you again in heaven or hell. And then, I put you in forever rest… My blade, it falls from my still bloodied hands. The silver metal stained, but able to reflect the anguish I feel inside. Telling me this is truly real. My katana, it reflects the tombstone at my feet. The cold surface of marble reading your name in forever embrace. You will not be coming back to me. My left gloved fingertips brush across the softly etched name of yours. A name, a woman, and a memory I will never forget. So, to free myself from my pain I let the last physical thing of yours go. Your mare, she ran to the horizon as soon as I stripped off her reigns. I set her free, in hopes she shall find you, bring you back to me. I smile as she falls into the horizon light, the blinding glint being reflected off her snowy back. And between that moment of darkness and light I think I saw you… For the last time. You had found her as you sat upon her back your horse reared up. Neighing in triumph as your beautiful emerald eyes looked to me. I will always miss your eyes… Your lips part, your eyes now full of confusion, I can almost imagine the words spilling from those ruby lips of yours… 'Where are we going?' Wondering what town we shall be heading to next. I shake my head, this journey you will travel alone. I will miss you, your company; you're very self… I mount my horse, as I watch your horse's hooves grasp the soil of earth once more. The vision of your form vanishing from mind and sight. She runs off, and I turn, running the opposite way. I know we will meet again someday. The final tears leave my eyes… I pride myself not to turn back, instead keeping my eyes to the newly falling skies of night. The violet mist in shrouding the day, hoping to wash away sorrows and memories. But, I will forever carry mine. A vision of you appearing in the faintly glowing stars, guiding me onto the future, as you had done in past…

Until we meet again…
