Fan Fiction ❯ Shaz... ❯ Shaz... ( Chapter 1 )
Shaz…
She stood atop the dark and shadowed building; her violet hair whipped this way and that by the rising wind. She blinked once in the shadows, her eerie green eyes illuminated in the shadows. A snap of cloth breaks the silence, her black cloak whipping behind her in the wind. She took three steps to the edge and looked down at the chaos below. Car horns blearing, lights and sounds, even smells assaulted her heightened senses.
" They're coming for me," she murmured quietly into the wind. It howled softly in answer, her eyes narrowed a fraction. She slipped her hand beneath her flapping cloak, the removing familiar weight of her standardized weapon from its holder at her waist. Slowly, almost reverently she pulled it clear of her cloak and inspected it. The dull luster of metal shone softly, reflecting the city lights. She stared for a moment at the ebony engraved handle, and she smiled for a moment. Her thoughts straying from the task and hand, she shakes her head vigorously. Get it together, Shazza girl, she thinks to herself in the moonlight.
From another pocket in her voluminous cloak, she pulls out an ammunition clip, and loads it into the bottom of her gun with a satisfying click. She looked down again, her eyes drawn to the figures rushing out of the security vehicles quickly amassing at the base of the building.
" They're here, " she mumbles again, turning on her heel so she faces the door leading up to the roof. She raised her gun, aimed at the door and cocked the trigger, she knew that she was taking a cowards way out, but she rationalized it by thinking she'd rather be around to fight this fight a different time. She knew they were walking to their death, but she didn't know if they knew.
The door creaked open a bit, and light flooded the darkness. It lit up the area well away from where she stood cloaked in darkness. The shaft of a gun poked out from the crack and then the door suddenly swung open with crash. Three consecutive shots were directed her way, and she ducked rolling to the right; crouching as she brought up her gun aiming; then returning his three shots with three of her own. He jerked back twice, as if he had some case of morbid hiccups, his gun falling a reasonable distance away. Slowly she strode over to her fallen enemy. Your getting rusty, Shazza girl, she thought inspecting the fallen body. Two of her shots had hit him directly in the chest, and were pooling slowly with dark red blood on the ground; but the third shot had caught him in the stomach. The bright red blood spurted in a disgusting parody of a painting on the rooftop. Better get back to practicing, she thought to herself scowling at what her lack of skills had become.
Suddenly, in the middle of her self-scolding she heard the ominous click of a gun being cocked. She froze like a sighted rabbit. Her every muscle tensed and her mind franticly searching for away out.
" Turn around, " he commanded a rough voice, " Hurry up! I swear, I'll shoot!"
She slowly turned around her gun carefully hidden behind her back. She scowled angrily at him, but her scowl was hidden by a look of blank awe. The man in front of her was as handsome as they come; his helmet covered most of his bright flame red hair. His angry chocolate brown eyes held warmth in them that didn't seem to be able to be easily reached. Everything feminine in her reached out to hold him, which made her scowl at herself. Get it together Shaz! Falling for one of Carlos's men? Nevertheless, it scared her at the sudden intensity of her feelings; she hadn't felt like this for anyone before. She looked up at his angry eyes and felt herself reaching out for him. But, she stood her ground, her black cloak giving her the illusion of some great hunter.
He blinked as she turned around, not quite expecting a woman to be the high-class rogue threat that he'd been called out to assist on. He hesitated for a minute, but in that moment of hesitation, he noticed her emerald green eyes. The way her lip pouted when she scowled at him, he noticed the way the wind pulled her violet hair around in wisps. He stood there looking at her and getting the feeling that she was a vulnerable wild creature that had to be protected from everything, he felt his eyes trailing down her body, but the cloak hid her body. However, as she noticed that he was looking her over she leapt for the fallen man's ammo clip. She started to load it into her gun before a foot collided with her face, which sent her sprawling. Her gun slid a considerable distance away; she looked up at him for a moment, a glimpse of hatred in her eyes. That one look wrenched his heart out from his chest and tore it to pieces. But he grabbed her violet hair, soft and fine in his hands, and forced her face into the rooftop; first pulling her hands behind her back and placing his knee on the small of her back pushing until she uttered a little cry and her arms became pliant. He secured her hands with laser-strengthened handcuffs; he dragged her up to her feet. Hating the force, he had to use to get her to do his will.
"State your name, ID, and reg. Info," he barked out slightly out of breath from either their struggle or his proximity to her he wasn't quite sure. She glared up at him, her green eyes narrowing at him, and then she spit in his face. She aimed for his eyes, but had to be satisfied with his forehead and let it drip into his eyes.
Growling, he cocked his gun and placed it beneath her chin forcing her eyes up to meet his dark brown angry ones. There was only so much he was going to take from this small upstart; though she was beautiful and invoked feelings in him he'd never experienced, no one spit at him.
" Answer me, bitch, " he growled putting pressure on his gun on her chin.
She closed her eyes and gritted her teeth choking out her words against the pressure from his gun, " Shaz Morgan, # 3588359, a standardized weapon, substandard bullet cloak, high class bio-organic body armor, " she mumbled quietly under her breath, but he nodded. He removed his gun from beneath her chin and positioned it on the small of her back.
" Move," he growled into her ear, the shadow from his beard softly brushing against her cheek. Her insides fluttered, and she seemed to melt. Oh, come on, Shaz, he kicked you in the face and you still insist on having these little flutters over him? She thought to herself, but no matter how she tried to reprimand herself her stomach still fluttered, and that made her angry. Scowling she threw herself backward into him, flipping her hands in front of herself and sliding her hands out of the handcuffs, by making them as small as she possibly could. In the midst of their struggle, he lost his gun somewhere over by hers, and she quickly scanned for them. Running over toward the guns, which were dangerously close to the edge of the rooftop. She picked them up and aimed at him before he could recover.
" Hey! Stop! Freeze, dammit!" he yelled after her.
She turned to look at him, drawing his gun up to aim at him, her gun safely holstered at her side. " Would you just shut up?" she yelled at him in an exasperated tone, " I mean god, you're all the same! You can give your boss this!" She threw a data crystal at him and continued, " And you can tell him he can kiss my ass if he thinks for a moment that I'll ever come back and work for him again! I learned about your little conspiracy and I'll have no part of it!" She turned on her heel and leapt from the building into the night below.
Startled by her sudden action he ran to the edge with a sinking heart, his first thought was that she had jumped to end her life. But, as he reached the edge, he watched her fall stories a second only to grab a nearly invisible black wire and swing safely across to a neighboring building. Her black cloak billowing around her like a great pair of wings giving her the appearance of some elusive black angel; she turned once landing safely on the building and faced her opponent who stared at her from the other building. She smirked rather evilly and brought up his gun and aimed for his feet; then squeezed the trigger.
He jumped back as the shot exploded at his feet, and he scowled back in time to see her figure disappearing into the shadows. God, that girl knows how to get on my nerves! He thought rather fleetingly.
