Fan Fiction ❯ Shaz... ❯ Chapter 6 ( Chapter 6 )
However, before anything more could happen the door swung open and three fully armored guards ran in yelling, "Down. Down. Down!"
Nicolai made the mistake of saying, "What the hell," and trying to sit up moving Shaz behind him. One of the guards let off a shot causing Shaz to fall to the floor, heedless of her naked state. She rolled beneath the bed, pulled a sheet down, and wrapped it around her, and tried to calculate how many steps it would take to get to her bullet cloak and then out the door. But as she thought about it more the more she began to realize that there were probably more guards down the stairs waiting for her.
Damn you Nicolai, I trusted you! She had the fleeting panic attack that she was going to be caught, but then she noticed Nick's gun in his holster on his pants that he had tossed beside the bed. She scurried out loosened it and shot two shots at the closest guards, and making a mad dash for the high backed black leather chair she had tossed her bullet cloak. She leaned forward dropping the gun and flattening her hands as she did a back flip onto the chair, narrowly avoiding a speeding bullet meant for her head. Reaching out she grabbed her bullet cloak and wrapped that around her as she saw her way out. A window.
With a fleeting accusatory glance at the speechless Nicolai, she ran toward the window and dove out of it, falling quickly toward the water that the bridge spanned.
"No! Shaz!" Nicolai screamed as he bounded out of the bed and to the now broken window. He watched the falling black cloaked angel, his heart breaking as he knew that no one could survive this fall. "Damn you Shaz, I could have gotten you out."
But, a small bit of bright hope flared when he saw a her remove the sheet she had wrapped around her and fling it up holding it with both hands, making a parachute of sorts.
Her fall slowed, but didn't stop and she landed with a splash into the water not far from the other bank. She began swimming as fast as she could, other guards having seen her leap from the broken window and were making their way after her.
"Strange way to deal with a rogue, Nick," said Dani from behind him. He turned to face him, heedless of what he looked like bared out in his birthday suit. She looked at him appraisingly for a moment and then up to his face again.
"You did this Dani?" he asked through gritted teeth, using all his strength to keep from hitting her square in the face.
"You were infatuated, I thought if I got rid of her, you'd be more into your job again," she tossed back turning away, tossing her dark curly black hair behind her, and moving away with swaying hips. "More into those who could actually give you something."
He laughed bitterly, his anger almost palpable in the room, "And is this person you Dani?"
She smiled absently and motioned more guards into the room, "Apprehend him on one account of treason, one account of association with a rogue without telling the proper authorities, and one count of indecent behavior."
That did it, he lunged at her, only to be grabbed by a pair of strong and rough guards and hauled down the stairs. It made no sense, only two days ago she was so nice and was like his partner. What had happened to her that made her do things like this? Then a thought ran through his head, there is nothing more dangerous than a woman scorned . Was she making advances I didn't even recognize? I suppose that would put her over the top, but to this extent.
His thinking was then cut off as she hit him solidly over the head with the butt of his father's gun. Smirking she used a knife to pry away a piece of fake plastic and remove a tiny blinking tracking device.
