Fan Fiction ❯ Silent Prayers ❯ Aldria(chapter one) ( Chapter 1 )
Along a dark alleyway she walked, no one other then the protectors could tell who she truly was. Was, was the key word, after a few years of fighting for the innocent, the truthful, and the right she had begun to lose all of her humanity. Yet as she walked through the alley her heavy heart began to lift, she was on a mission and her own guilt could not stand in her way, for if it did a human life could disappear within the blink of an eye.
Her name was Aldria Randor or at least it was when she had been an innocent much like those whom she protected. Now she was a hunter and known only as such, never again to feel the love and warmth of true human compassion. Never again because of the creatures she hunted, they were known as Vampires but to her they were the devil's spawn, and things that should forever be eliminated.
The mission was simple, find a Vampire who was terrorizing the city, free all humans who might be in his grasp, eliminate him. Very simple, she had been sent out on other missions that were harder so this had to be a piece of cake, or so she thought.
It was growing late and cold, Aldria had to get to her hotel before she froze herself through to the bone. She was still a human so she was weaker then most Vampires and this late at night she was an easy target, easy blood, easy prey and she wasn't very fond of it either.
The hotel was a nasty place which was above an even nastier bar, in a situation like this she was happy that she could protect herself. Back in her room she pulled her knee length, form fitting black jacket off, underneath it was a skinny blond. Hair pulled back wearing a navy blue tank top, black pants and black boots she looked as if she was just a teenager coming back from a night out with friends, but the truth was harsh and it was evident in her serious stranded ice blue eyes.
Aldria moved about pulling her waist length hair out of it's pony tail, she had been told several times that it would probably be best for her to cut it before it got her into trouble but the last fight she had with her mother had been about it, and her mother of all people hadn't wanted her to cut her hair because it was who she was. Yet again she was dwelling on the past and she had to get her head out of it, she had a mission to complete and a call from headquarters was supposed to be made soon.
Bring, Bring there it was.
"Hello?" She kept her voice smooth; a calm manner was what she needed, all the other agents at headquarters were just like her, all alone in life because of vampires.
"Aldria we have some information for you." The voice was quick and very frank mixed with annoyance, which was strange for the owner another agent named Amy Zen.
"I'm all ears."
"You had better be this is going to shock you a little."
After a few minutes of silence Aldria became annoyed. "Well?"
"The Vampire we are after is the man who has been giving us information about other Vampires, you can't do anything to him he is being protected by our agency."
"Then what the Hell am I doing here for?" She snapped.
"I don't know, but just sit tight for a while I'm trying to figure it out."
"Amy please hurry up, I'm really not in the mood to stay here."
"I know, I know. But Boss is in a really bad mood and there is nothing we can do at the moment. A few government officials came over today and when they found out why you were gone, let's just say that Oric threw a fit. I have to go bye."
"Bye Amy." Click.
That was it, now she had to stay in this place for a while, and Oric was angry at her. That scared her because Oric was in charge of everything, Oric was a man who was not to be messed with, he knew everything about every agent and with his will an agent could be eliminated although the government denied it, it was the only truth that there was.
Bring, Bring "Now who could that be?" Aldria murmured softly to herself before picking up the phone. "Hello?"
"Agent Randor? This is Oric." There it was his cool and deadly voice, the voice that sometimes haunted her.
"Yes it is me, is there something that you need to talk to me about, sir?" She desperately tried to keep her voice calm, with Oric any small thing could set him off.
"Relax Aldria, I'm not angry at you, I know that you were sent out on this mission I did allow it to be started but I didn't have you in mind for the job. I wouldn't want you to get hurt on such an easy mission. But now I guess this is the perfect mission for you." His voice was sweet and fake which made Aldria a little angry he had some nerve.
"Then why may I ask did you call, if not to yell at me?" Now it was a struggle to stay polite it was always a struggle with Oric.
A soft chuckle was heard then his calm voice turned a little sour. "Stay at the hotel you are in for three more days, do not keep asking around for him, just stay there I will send another agent to you one of my personal agents. If I hear that you have been doing otherwise you will pay the price, you can't touch him, if you do you are in a lot of trouble."
"I understand."
"Oh and Aldria, keep that cheery attitude up you're going to need it for the next few days. Have fun." Yet another chuckle, then click the line went dead.
Oh great she thought most of all Oric's personal agents aren't human, although all of them are human related. I wonder if he will send an Elf. I've always wanted to meet one. Slowly her mind began to wander what if the agent that was sent was not really coming to brief her on some other assignment but to kill her? It wasn't strange for that to happen in fact Oric himself wasn't human and on several occasions he had been quoted as to saying that he really hated humans. With such an evil Troll as a high boss it was hard for her or anyone for that matter to feel safe.
So now Aldria began to get ready for some sleep, if she was going to have to stay here she might as well make it livable, and sleeping in late sounded like some fun. She walked into that bathroom and took a long look at herself in the mirror and was appalled by what she saw.
A normal honey face was pale, her pudgy cheeks were shallow and drawn, she almost looked like the Vampires she hunted. Even her hair looked very average, normally it shone golden but it had grown a little dull and sad looking. It was clear evidence that she needed some sun and it was what she would have to get in the morning, following a Vampire's eternal clock had left her a very sad sight.
"Damn it, I really need to get outside when the sun is out." She whispered to herself, she had been such a girly girl before all of this.
After a nice long shower Aldria began to blow dry her hair, even if she couldn't keep up most girlish habits she could still try to keep herself looking somewhat nice, besides she might not have many days left to live if her thoughts about Oric were correct. Even though she felt that way Aldria began to hum as she dried her hair, music was what she had loved, had of course.
When her hair was finally dry she let if hang long down her back, she really didn't want to cut it but if it got in her way one more time when she was working there might be some trouble for her, an enemy could easily grab her by her hair. Oh well she thought why not leave the troubles of tomorrow to tomorrow? With that issue settled she headed off the bed, checking the clock to find that it was already three in the morning.
Sleep normally didn't come easy for a hunter like her. Insomnia seemed to thrive in the mind of someone who truly had seen the unthinkable, but for some reason she didn't even have a moment to think of what to do the next day before she was already out, out like a baby and somehow very calm.
