Kana turned and walked away from the two. He stood near a window and glanced out. It was well past midnight, he concluded, judging by the position of the moon and they had not slept well since they had left the safe haven. That had been over a month ago. The passage of time was always strange in times of war. Things that seemed days apart were in fact separated by months and things that seemed to drag on for hours were in fact only a few minutes long.

"You look like you've seen a lot," the stable keeper said and Kana glanced at him.

"I've seen a little," he replied.

"What's going on out there? Why are the demons acting so hostile?"

Kana resisted the urge to become defensive as he turned away from the window. He watched Izo stroke Firerain one last time then turned to the stable keeper, who was still awaiting an answer.

"How do you know they're demons?" he asked as Ryo and Izo walked up to them. "We've journeyed through the southwest lands where dragon people live. Perhaps that is what's terrorizing the land."

"But what...?" the stable keeper asked and Izo handed him a coin.

"Please. You are speaking to a group of people who have not had a decent meal and rest in at least a month. For tonight, just direct us to the inn and we'll discuss other matters later on," he said.

"Forgive me. We don't get visitors much so in our thirst for news, we tend to take advantage of weary travelers. Is the boy your son?"

"He is an apprentice," Kana said as they made their way to the door. "We shall converse later. Please take care of our horses."

"What was that junk you were making up?" Izo asked, once they were out of sight of the stable.

"He was accusing our kind for the destruction. I had to come up with another species capable of mass destruction," Kana replied.

"So you made one up."

"Of course. We can't take the risk of endangering ourselves by revealing who we are."

"This is a nice place. At least from what I've seen," Ryo commented.

"Is that the inn?" Ryo asked as he pointed to a house on the corner of the street.

"Yeah. It's got a sign on it. Let's hope they're still serving food," Izo said as Kana opened the door and stepped inside.

"Where is everyone?" Ryo asked.

"Sleeping I'd assume. I'll ring for the clerk," Kana said as he picked up the bell and rang it.

"I hope the beds are soft. Big too," Izo said as he glanced at Kana.

"I'm coming. I'm coming," an elderly gentleman said as he stepped out of the back room and pushed up his glasses. "Can I help you?"

"We'd like a room if there is one available."

"Of course. That's a fine boy you and your wife have."

"Steady Izo," Kana muttered as the elderly man took out a key and handed it to him.

"You've got room thirteen. I hope you're not superstitious. Nice wife you've got there but she's a little thin. If you're hungry, I can wake the cook for you."

"Please do. We haven't had a warm meal in quite awhile. Come on you two, let's get to our room."

"I am NOT a woman," Izo hissed as they walked down the adjacent hall.

"I know that. He was an elder human. He probably can't see that well."

"But Izo doesn't look like a girl," Ryo said as Kana stopped at a door with the number thirteen on it.

"What did he mean by being superstitious?" Izo asked as Kana unlocked the door and opened it.

"I don't know. Lock the door behind you."

Izo laid his things on the floor and locked the door as Kana pulled off his shirt. Izo turned around then glanced away when he saw the general in his natural form. It wasn't the same without his long hair and he sincerely wished that Kana hadn't cut it off.

"Does it really look that bad?" Kana inquired and Izo looked at him. "I was hoping, major, that you'd help alleviate the stress with me."

"I'd almost forgotten I had these things," Ryo said as he flexed his wings.

"If things get worse, you may have to," Kana said as Izo pushed back his hair.

"So who's going to take a bath first?" Izo asked and Ryo jumped up.

"I will!" he cried and he ran into the adjacent room.

"Smart move," Kana said as he walked up to Izo. He pushed Izo against the wall and kissed him. Izo closed his eyes as he felt Kana explore the depths of his mouth.

"Guys, there's something wrong with the bathroom," Ryo said as he stepped into the room. Kana drew away and Izo coughed slightly. Kana turned to face the prince and looked over his body.

"You're getting bigger," he commented. "What do you mean there's something wrong?"

"There's no bath."

"What?" Izo asked and Ryo took his hand.

"I'll show you," he said and pulled Izo towards the bathroom. There was a knock on the front door just as Izo and Ryo stepped into the bathroom. Kana changed forms and opened the door. A short, round woman stood there with a tray in her arms. She smiled broadly and Kana returned the smile, although his was not as big.

"Warren, he's the gentleman at the front desk at night, told me you haven't eaten a hot meal in days. Now you go ahead and take that and put it on the table and I'll bring the other one in," she said as she pushed Kana slightly. Kana stood still for a second then brought the tray inside and set it on the table. He turned around then started slightly when the cook brushed past him.

"Where's your wife and your boy?" she asked and Kana glanced nervously at the bathroom. "Oh I see. Well tell her not to worry. The demons don't bother us here. We've got the statue of Saint Angelo to protect us so none of those horrible, evil demons will even get close to our town. We've been protected for a long time now. Well, it's late and I'm sure your boy needs his rest so I'll let you be. Don't worry about the dishes. I'll take care of them in the morning. Late in the morning. I'm sure you all need your rest."

Kana watched her walk out of the room and closed the door behind her. He waited a few seconds then glanced at the bathroom where Izo stepped out with an angered look on his face.

"I am NOT a woman! I carry my weight down below. I've got nothing up top," he said and Kana shrugged his shoulders.

"What's wrong with the bath?" he asked as Izo unbuckled his belt.

"There is none. It's a shower. See? I've got all of it down below."

"She did bring food. It's probably more nutritional than that."

He pushed down Izo's thong and ran his hand over Izo's groin. Izo watched him with interest as Kana's claws scraped against his skin. Kana gently stroked him as he watched Izo's eyes. The sound of metal lids being taken off of trays distracted Kana and he glanced at the food that Ryo was setting out and then at Izo.

"Let's eat first. That way we're energized for what you want later," Kana said as he removed his hand from Izo's body.

"You started groping me," Izo said as Kana turned away from him.

"I just wanted to show you that you're not a woman."

"You're going to pay for that remark," Izo growled as he pulled up his pants. He walked over to the table and Kana handed him a plate of food. He took the plate from Kana and sat on the edge of the bed. Kana sighed as he sat beside Ryo. Ryo glanced at Kana and then at Izo.

"What's wrong with him?" he asked.

"Just leave him alone. I'll talk with him later," Kana replied.

"Is he mad at you?"

"He's upset at the situation. I'll deal with it when you take a shower."

"Can we stay here for good? I like the food."

"No, Ryo. Our kind has our own place to call home and we must take it back," Kana said as Izo set his plate on the table. Kana grabbed his arm and Izo glanced at him.

"I think now would be a good time to taste Wyrne's alcohol," he said as Ryo uncovered what appeared to be a dessert. Izo turned to fetch his saddlebag but Kana held him firm. "I do hope you're not going to be like this all night."

"Let me get the bottle, sir," Izo replied and Kana sighed. He let go of Izo and watched him walk to the other side of the room.

"Are you sure he's not mad at you?" Ryo whispered and Kana smiled slightly.

"I'll talk with him later. Go ahead and eat, Ryo," Kana said as Izo set the bottle on the table. Ryo glanced at the two and then stood up.

"I'm going to take a shower," he said and walked into the bathroom.

Izo sat across from Kana and Kana glanced at him. He pushed a dessert plate to Izo and Izo looked at it. Kana pulled the cork out of the bottle with one of his claws and glanced at Izo who sat silently eating a small pie piece.

"We need to keep the communication channels open for this war, major. Internal struggle does not win battles," he said as he brought the bottle to his lips.

"One of the things Iylsha would constantly comment on was the fact that I acted more like a girl than she did," Izo replied as he took the bottle from Kana.

"In what way?"

"My personal appearance and the fact that I took a long time to get dressed when I was at home. I guess that old guy's comment made me remember those incidents with my sister."

"Major, you are in no means feminine. I've seen enough of your performance on the battlefield to know that. Just ignore the remarks from the humans. They're only humans. They cannot help their ignorance."

He leaned over and touched Izo's arm. Izo placed his free hand over Kana's and smiled.

"You're right, sir. Forgive me for taking it out on you."

"You're forgiven," Kana replied as he drew closer to the major. "Are you ready for what you wanted earlier?"

"Yes, sir," Izo replied as he stood up. Kana kissed him as he began pushing down Izo's pants. Izo closed his eyes slightly as Kana drew away and kissed Izo's neck.

He then moved down the major's body, kissing and licking him every inch of the way. Izo cried out in excitement as Kana squeezed his groin then watched as Kana removed his own pants. Izo then drew away and Kana watched him with interest. Izo folded his wings and walked over to the bed with Kana right behind him. He lay down on the bed and watched as Kana climbed on top of him.

"Make it good, major," Kana said as he spread Izo's legs. Izo winced slightly when he felt Kana enter his body then relaxed at Kana began his stroke.

Ryo stepped out of the bathroom a few minutes later with a towel wrapped around his middle. He stood and watched the two older demons for a moment then walked over to the other bed and sat on it. He wondered, drowsily, if this was what his father and Lendas had looked like at night. He yawned and pulled the towel off of his body then crawled underneath the covers and fell fast asleep.

Asuka glanced at the calendar and sighed. It had almost been another year since the murder of the king and she still knew very little about the well-being of the prince. Dylnar's reports were infrequent and most often, outdated. She knew that Dylnar was doing the best that he could with the ever growing danger on the outside but she wished that he could do more. The last news she had heard was a rumor stating that three strange humans rode into a village some hundred miles away from the village that she and her son were staying in. What had caught Dylnar's interest was the fact that one member in the party was a blonde with two golden ponytail holders that had a strange symbol woven into the fabric. A demon in hiding confirmed it as their own script so the assumption was made that it was in fact the prince's party, but that news had come over a month ago and there was no telling where they were now.

She glanced at the book that lay on the table and sighed. Lee would never learn to put his books away. He was neat in every other aspect but for some reason he absolutely refused to put his books away. At least he was out of the house and she thanked D for that. She didn't mind her son being around but ever since he had become a teenager, he had become a little difficult to deal with. His concern about Ryo had become almost unbearable and she was glad that D had taken it upon himself to take Lee's mind off of his potential loss.

"Hello, Mother," Lee said as he opened the front door.

"Any more news?" she asked and Lee shook his head. He sat across from her and flexed his wings, which had grown quite large.

"The window, Lee!" Asuka hissed and Lee's wings disappeared.

"I'm sorry. I forgot," Lee said and lowered his head in embarrassment.

"It's all right, Lee. Just be more careful. I don't want to lose you."
