Fan Fiction ❯ Skool's Out! ❯ One-Shot
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Author note: Hi again! I'm back with a new fanfic! Nope, I didn't leave forever, just took a break to get some insparation and I'll have more poems, too. n_n In this fic, however(sinse I'm so good at relating to Alice), she wanders away from Rutledge, unwatched and runs into someone(s) that she never expected and in an attempt to save them, gets herself into more trouble than she may not be able to get herself out of. O.o
Fic is/contains: Alice's POV. Typical American McGee's Alice stuff, maybe a little violence but hey, if ya don't like violence then why are you reading AMcG's Alice? ^_^
Disclaimers: Don't own nothing from AMcG's Alice in any way.
Skool's Out!
It was a cold, December day at Rutledge's Asylum. I sat on my old bed staring, blankly out my barred window and stroking the soft fur of my stuffed rabbit. It was my only link to life before the fire. I watched the insane children play in garden grounds with eachother.
This was my way to pass the time.
The sky was filled with crystal blue. Leaves of golden brown flew from the trees and danced upon the frosty grass. The paths were of cobblestones and rocks along its sides. The flowers were of gold and violet, some blue.
The roses, which were pink and red and were some of my favorite flowers, had died away in late August, a little while after I'd came to Rutledge's Asylum. I would've liked to go out a say goodbye to them but my comatose state wouldn't allow that. Pitty, huh?
The kids giggled, some were crying over their problems as they strolled the garden walls.
Lost in watching them, I was quite startled to see a black cat jump upon my window sill.
"Dinah? Is that you?" I asked, my voice lowered to a hush.
It just blinked it's emerald eyes and jumped on my bed sheets. I attemped to pet it but my arms were feeling numb from the medication.
It meowed again as if asking me to stroke it.
I couldn't.
It blinked again, placed its paws on my chest and began to lick my face, worriedly. I smiled due to the tickling sensation.
This went on for a few minutes until I heard the door creak open and screams of the others in torment filled my room for a moment.
The cat made a fierce hiss in Dr. Wilson's direction and darted out the window.
"Alice?" He spoke, approaching me. "Was the cat hurting you?"
I only shook my head, missing the mysterious cat's company already.
Then, I heard the scribbling of pen on paper and turned to see Wilson writing something in his case book. He glanced up at me.
"That cat reminds me of the one who came to protect you the day you arrivied here at Rutledge's.."
I nodded again.
"Nothing to tell me today, Alice? No pictures?"
I shook my head.
"I see. Well, I came to give you your breakfast and something to drink." He walked to the door and pulled a table into my room, which had my food on it.
I cast my gazed back out the window and into the garden.
"You seem to like that scenery. Maybe it'll be a reward if you eat all your breakfast, okay?"
A smile came to my lips as I snuggled my stuff rabbit close to me.
Wilson pulled the table close to me as two orderlies came into the room. One worked on prying my mouth opened as another fed me with a spoon. It was porridge, I believe. I watched Dr. Wilson leave as I swallowed down the first couple of bites.
It wasn't long before breakfast was over and I heard Dr. Wilson and nurse D talking outside my cell.
"I'll have them feed her lunch the same way. That seems to work the best. At least she swallows." Nurse D said and Dr. Wilson agreed.
I curled up in the bed. //That bitch..// I thought.
My door creaked open and Dr. Wilson walked in. "Alice? I'm sorry, dear but I want to see what affect this will have on you.."
I watched him walk around my bed and snatch my rabbit out of my hands.
I grabbed my rabbit's ear as Nurse D walked in. She pulled the ear out of my grasp. I tried to stand and snatch him back but nurse D pushed me onto the bed.
"Stay, Alice!" She growled. "You're becoming a thorn in my side."
"Nurse D, that's no way to talk to a patient." Wilson told her. "Besides, I want you to take her out to the garden grounds this afternoon and see how she does with that environment."
Nurse D sighed. "Alright."
"Why can't you just leave her alone?! You bother her every day!" A boy shouted from the cell across from my own. He was around my age.
"Be quiet, Damien! We don't need to hear from you." Nurse D said as she walked out of my room with my toy, Dr. Wilson following her.
"Hey girl? Are you okay?" Damien asked me as I rush over to my closed door. I could see him through my cell bars.
His hair was messy and his face was frightfully pale like my own.
"Yes, I'm okay, Damien."
"They need to learn to leave you alone. I feel sorry for you, girl." He moved closer to the bars.
Not knowing what to say to that, I merely nodded.
After a moment or two of staring at eachother, nurse D came with a wheelchair and opened my cell. She took my hands and placed me into the wheelchair. "I see you've made a friend." She whispered as she walked over to Damien's cell and opened it.
She began to strole me down the hall and Damien followed in silence. As we passed by the nurse's station, I over heard some people saying that six insane children had escaped this morning. //Six children gone.. Hummm... That doesn't surprise me..//
We went out the doors and into the garden. The flowers were alive and doing well. She rolled me to the fountain and stopped. "Now this time, stay!" She turned and left me alone in the garden grounds with Damien.
"Come on." I said and stood up.
Damien cocked an eye brow in surprise. "You can walk?"
"Yes, can everyone?" I replied as I walked quickly, trying not to be seen.
"Wait a minute, girl. Where are you going?" He asked as he walked after me.
"To save the children!" I began to run toward the garden walls, which was overgrown with vines. Once I'd reached it, Damien at my side, I began to climb up them.
"I have to help the children or they'll end up in the hatter's lair. I can't let that happen." I said at I reached the top and swung my leg over. The thorns of the vines caught my dress and tore the hem a little. "Come on!" I shouted at Damien.
"Okay, fine." He too began to climb up the wall by the vines.
I jumped down on the otherside and waited for Damien. When he jumped down, I began to walk again and he grabbed my arm, gently.
"Woah, hold on a minute. Who are you and where are you going?"
I pulled my arm away and started walking again. "My name is Alice and I'm going to save those children." I said.
He coughed to clear his throat. "Okay, and you want me to come with you?"
I smiled. "Unless you want to stay here."

We'd been walking for 30 minutes down a nearby road that we came upon. It wasn't long before we reached a school. "That's it. They're in the school!"
He smirked. "And how do you know this?"
"The cat told me." I said as I walked past him and started to run to the empty school.
"The what told you?!" He said in surprise and began to run after me.

The walls were stone and had vines growing on them.
I walked up the steps to the main door and opened it. It creaked open and I gave a gulp, Damien did the same. Once inside, I could hear laughing and crying.
"The children."
We ran down the corridors and hallways till we reached the library. Damien and I walked in.
The children were dancing in a circle, singing, "He's gone, He's gone," ect.
One little girl was under a table crying.
I walked over to her and held out my hand. "It's okay. Come on.." I girl scratched my arm and drew blood.
"He's coming.." She said. "The man in the tall hat is coming.. He wants us.."
"Take my hand and come with me, I won't let him take you." I said and grabbed her arm.
She came with me.
"Who's gone?" Damien asked the dancing kids.
No one answered.
"WHO'S GONE?!" He asked louder.
They stopped. "The boy. Come.."
They led me and Damien out of the school and to a well. I heard crying from inside it.
Then, the cop cars pulled up as I got on my knees and reached into the well.
I couldn't reach the kid. I slipped and Damien grabbed my legs. I grabbed the child as Damien started to pull me up.
Cops surrounded us and started putting us in cars. We were going back to Rutledge's Asylum.
Once we were there, they sent the children to their rooms and Damien and I sent to ours.
Nurse D walked in, looking very angry.
//Oh no. I'm gonna get my ass kick.// I thought.
"Damnit! Alice, I told you to stay!" She walked up to me and gave me a firm slap across the face. "At least I know you can walk now."
She sighed in frustration.
"And don't expect to get your rabbit back for a week. Fair discipline, I'd say."

I slept like an infant that night. In wonderland, the Cheshire Cat and I walked through the halls of the skool as I told him about my adventure with the six children.
"I'm proud of you, Alice. You have nerve and courage." He said once I was done. "Your life becomes more exciting as the earth turns."
"I agree."
Cheshire and I looked up at the speaker of the new voice who just entered our conversation.
"Hatter." I said as I watched the Cheshire disappear.
"Six children missing from my list." He approached me and kissed my lips, then smiled.
"They won't be so lucky next time."
I touched my vorpal blade. "We'll see about that.."
