As the zerg closed in around John and his comrades the team retreated to the bunkers. The marines were the first to enter followed by the firebats and other units. There were six bunkers in all, securely embedded into the cliff wall. The soldiers securely locked in the bunkers could only watch in horror as they saw the unfortunate soldiers get overrunned by zerglings followed by zerg hydralisks knawing and biting for there share of human flesh, even when the zerg wiped out three outposts on the planet Daylar in the
Dreg system they still yearned for food. The confederacy should have known that releasing the zerg from a forced hibernation would be disastrous but they believed they could wake the zerg one by one to destroy them once and for all. The confederacy's intentions were good but they no longer had the strength or assistance of the Protos that had gone into hiding after the terran colonies destroyed the new Protos homeworld.
A glimmer of hope appeared to John around the third hour of being trapped in a bunker, his bunker being one of two lucky enough to have survived several waves of zerg attack. The hope was not that of terran reinforcements but rather that of a single damaged dropship searching for survivors. As the dropship neared to John's location he noticed that there were two mutalisks moving from nearby hives planning to toy with some live prey. Quickly John snatched up his radio even though the dropship was still out of range. John quickly called the other bunker "is anyone there?" three seconds, five, ten seconds still no answer then just as John was about to give up there was an answer "this is Karg we copy, what is it?” "This is john I could not help but notice that there was a dropship heading our way but is being followed by some unfriendly hitchhikers and I was thinking we could lend them a hand." "Agreed.” both bunkers unloaded there marines three firebats in front for defense incase another zerg wave picked just then to attack, the two marines including John behind them ready to fire at the mutalisks when they came in range, one medic ready to assist anyone who got injured and two SUVs
Repairing the bunkers in case a retreat was nesesary. As the mullusks came in range the marines opened fire suddenly they saw and heard large explosions on both zerg flyers and the screech of four wraith fighters as they decloaked. The soldiers quickly rushed to the dropship as it landed to pick them up. "You people need a lift" was all that the marines heard as they got into the ship.
"Well you guys are really lucky to be alive we just received word that the zerg destroyed those bunkers from orbit five minutes after we left. I'm Dargot. Are you the ranking officer here soldier?" "I guess so, our group leader was overrun as we retreated back to the bunkers" replied john. "I am sorry to hear that, well you are to be awarded but now is not the time. We are on our way to a planet in the barge system, we are hoping to communicate with the protos for assistance." "Why do you need us?" questioned john. "Well the zerg have a small fleet targeting that planet and we don't have any terran outposts there civilian or otherwise so the zerg must be doing something there, we are assuming that the protos are the reason for the zerg being there." "We are already in the system and should be arriving at the planet in about an hour so your team should suit up. Our jumpship will only be there just long enough for our transports to launch, the jumper will come back only if it receives a signal, so we better get ready."
Two hours until synchronous orbit around targeted planet John was already armed and ready. John had decided to comprise his team of ten ghosts a goliath and himself. He was suited up with a new marine prototype armor that could not be seen from a distance and as long as he was within twenty feet of the goliath it would also be cloaked, John assumed these features were made from protos technology probably made with less successful duplication of arbiter and dark templar technology. Although the device would numb your fingers after about an hour of constant use which was dangerous since you need your fingers to pull the trigger of a gun.
"Hi I'm Jim Ranor and ill be coming down to talk to the protos after you find em. So you and your group need to succeed on this mission. Now get into those transports and make us happy."
