Story blurb: A Middle Eastern woman's husband beats her and she defends herself. But, when authorities find out, they put the blame and punishment on her.

Warning: Death, informative, angst, based on actual events

A Middle Eastern woman, shrouded in a Burqa, was in her husband's home. The windows were blackened so that no one could look in and see the face of a woman. Inside this house she didn't cover her face.

She looked over her shoulder at the entrance to the room she was in with her children. She was feeding them some precious sugar she'd managed to get. The reason she seemed so paranoid was because her husband had told her to do other things with it, rather than feed it to the children, but she wanted her children to get a taste of this wonderful treat.

Turning her head, she finished serving the many children in front of her. Unfortunately, she didn't get a chance to fully stand up straight again before she heard the footsteps that could only be her husband's, entering the room and stopping dead. She knew that he knew what she was up to and that he had had to take a moment to believe his eyes. She had never defied him before.

But, he regained his senses immediately, and glared at her fiercely. He would not tolerate this!

"What do you think you are doing??" He cried out, advancing right away and snatching the small container that had once held the sugar and throwing it against the wall. He was very angry and he was not in the mood to worry about a cup right now.

"I-I was feeding the children…" The woman answered. She had defied him once, she was not stupid enough to lie to him as well, especially now that he'd seen with his own eyes what she had been doing.

"That's not what I told you to do with the sugar!" He yelled, backhanding her across the face.

"I know, but I…I just thought that the children should be able to get a taste of it…" That admission turned out to be a big mistake.

He began beating her, hitting her upper body brutally, ignoring her cries of pain and pleading for him to stop.

The beating didn't last too long, before she couldn't take it anymore and against her better judgment she shoved him away from her, at least a little ways, smacking his face and surprising him with her boldness, running past him into another room.

He wasn't stunned long enough to keep from following her into the room she ran into. He went right back over to her, turned her around to face him and started beating her again, but much more fiercely. Not only had she gone against what he had TOLD her to do, and now she was defying punishment! And, she hit him!! How DARE she do that?!?!

"NO!" She cried, through tears of pain, trying to keep from falling to the ground. She reached her hand back and it came in contact with something sharp, cutting her finger. She didn't care about the wound on her finger, she knew what the object in question was, and she snatched it up when her hand found the handle and before thinking about what she was doing or what might happen to her, she thrust the knife into her husband's stomach.

Unfortunately, the wound was fatal. The blade had cut into one or more major organs on its way in and it did not take him long to fall into a crumpled heap on the floor.

When she saw what she'd done, she dropped the knife and knelt by her husband's side, trying to wake him up, but soon realizing that he was not GOING to wake up.

She heard footsteps, but before she could get up or do anything, she saw her brother come into the room, he must have knocked but nobody heard him and he decided to come in and see if everything was alright. He stopped in his tracks and just stared at her and the dead body of her husband on the floor.
