Fan Fiction ❯ Sweet Dreams ❯ Control Yourself, Raven! ( Chapter 1 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
The atmosphere was assembled of darkness and empty space...
Can…can anyone hear me? Anyone…?
=gasp=
A gust of cold air swept her satin cape around her calves, tossing lavender locks into her eyes and violently rocking her from side to side. It was virtually impossible to see anything, to be aware of the black surroundings…with a sweep of her foot, she tentatively confirmed the edge of a cliff.
Suddenly, a screech emerged from under her feet, causing the plane beneath her to crack and split…blinding, orange light emerged from the tremendous splits in the rock. Before she knew what was going on, the floor gave from her weight and crumbled into the molten abyss, almost as if hands pulled her by her ankles gracefully downwards.
No…no! I won't allow the prophecy to be fulfilled…I won't! This is not my fate, this is not my fate…set me free, now! Noo!
“RAAAHHHH!!”
Raven's eyes shone a brilliant, white power as she lifted her arms in the air, tearing everything apart within ten feet of her…bed sheets, curtains, book pages, all in her blind fury of telekinesis.
Gulping for air, she looked around her sullen room in shock and jumped out of the bed. Her alarm clock rested sideways under a torn, incantation page…blinking 3:48 AM.
“Raven! What's going on?”
The call startled her in the midst of the silence…armed in a ready fighting stance, she was relieved to see Robin in the doorway. He was in his uniform and armed with weapons, but his shoulders drooped, along with his hair.
“You…you aren't hurt?” He asked, standing up straighter and sheathing his weapon on his belt.
“I'm sorry for waking you, it was nothing- just a nightmare, I guess.”
Raven dropped herself onto the edge of her massacred bed, running her fingers through her lopsided hair and staring at Robin's metal shoes. Robin relaxed and meticulously strolled over to where she sat, parched like a watchful raven…shaken by herself. He hesitated before placing his hand over Raven's shivering shoulder.
“Raven…is there something you'd like to talk about?”
“No, it was just a stupid dream...I'm just acting like a baby. Please…go get some sleep now, Robin.”
“…Because I mean, I know you can't really talk to anyone else about your personal matters, and I'd just like you to remember that I'm here to listen.”
Robin smiled reassuringly and squeezed her shoulder. She blushed, but turned away from him and frowned.
“Maybe tomorrow, alright? I need to…clean my room. You shouldn't see me in this state; I feel like a mess right now.”
“You think this is a mess? Raven, have you seen Beast Boy's room lately?” Robin joked, standing up and straightening the sheets he had sat on. Instead of leaving immediately, he held onto both of Raven's shoulders and stared her square in the eyes.
“Do you promise we'll talk about it tomorrow? Maybe I can help you work through your problems…I don't want you to be upset, I care about you-“
“You…care about me?” Raven echoed slowly, squeezing the meaning out of what he had said.
“Er, what I mean is…um, well we should get a good night's sleep now anyway, so I'll see you in the morning, I mean later in the morning, I mean…”
“Agreed…good morning, Boy Wonder.”
He stumbled out of her room and closed the door behind him, chuckling uncomfortably.
I care about you…
I care about you…
“He cares about me” She smiled to herself, pulling the torn sheets over her head.
