Fan Fiction ❯ Terror High ❯ the jump and the missing girl ( Chapter 6 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Everything that happened after that seemed to happen in slow motion. Kevin was about to fall and the four of them were watching desperately…
Actually, only two of them.
Chloe and Ella ran up the stairs two at a time. They had to stop Kevin.
No matter what.
Chloe grabbed Kevin's hand and Ella tried reasoning with him.
He jumped off.
Chloe was still holding his hand as he fell.
The force pulled her to the banister and she hit it pretty hard, still not letting go of Kevin.
Although, instead of saving Kevin, she was about to die as well…
The senior concert band finished their final note and Aaron ran as fast as he could out of the rotunda. He had to find everyone, before it was too late.
He had heard about Kevin's decision to jump just as they were beginning to play the senior band music. Knowing Chloe and Ella, they would try to interfere.
Aaron found Chase and Rory arguing amongst the crowd and he pointed out that Chloe and Ella were gone.
Rory and Chase looked up at the balcony.
There was no time to lose.
Aaron ran up the stairs as fast as his legs would let him. Chloe had grabbed Kevin's hand and Ella was talking to Kevin desperately.
Kevin jumped.
Aaron ran even faster, his breath caught in his lungs.
Chloe screamed when Kevin's body fell. She got pulled down with him.
As Chloe was inevitably going to fall, she felt Ella separate her from Kevin. The banister broke and she could still feel her body being pulled towards the ground.
Aaron grabbed onto Ella to help get Chloe to safety. (He was having a really good day…)
Chloe coughed and screamed when she heard Kevin's body hit the lockers.
“NO!” She screamed desperately, pushing Ella and Aaron away from her.
It was too late.
Kevin was-
“I think he's still alive!” Chase called, after running over to inspect his mangled body.
Chloe sighed and rested her head on the remaining part of the banister.
Sabrina ran down to the C wing desperately. Another victim of the curse. She sighed and ran even faster to find Damian.
He turned around quickly when he saw the worried look in her eyes.
“Damian… I-I'm so sorry…” she said breathlessly. “I-I went back… when everyone else was performing… he-he saw me…”
She stifled a sob and looked into Damian's big, brown eyes.
He couldn't hide the sadness that he was feeling at that moment.
Damian pulled Sabrina into a tight hug and tried really hard not to cry…
Sabrina was done for…
He couldn't save her. There was nothing he could do now.
**
It was fifteen minutes after Kevin had jumped off the banister, thirteen minutes after Damian had seen Sabrina, and two minutes after the ambulance had arrived to take Kevin away. The concert was the most incident-riddled ever, and the fall concerts at McMath had never been good. Still…it was a shock, especially to the grade eights, to see something like this.
Damian was supposed to be in the hospitality room, waiting with everyone else for the jazz band to finish. He was supposed to be talking with the others, acting like he was in awe of Sabrina. He knew Sabrina was still safe. She may have been caught in the lab, but everybody who was anybody in McMath knew that she was the most important person in the band program aside from the teacher. Whatever he had planned would wait until after the concert.
Chloe, Ella, and the others were still in C wing. Everyone else had left after they'd called 911, but Chase had stayed downstairs with Kevin the whole time, and she joined them upstairs once the ambulance came.
Damian was sitting on a bench in B wing, getting ready to head back. He had his trumpet next to him, and he was absentmindedly running his fingers over the shiny brass. He knew that trumpet better than he knew his best friend…and it was certainly a better secret keeper. He wouldn't tell his best friend about what he knew about the freshman curse.
The jazz band must have finished playing. A boy who looked no older than 15 came around the corner so fast Damian wasn't even sure he'd seen him.
“Have you seen Sabrina?” he asked.
Damian shook his head. “No…”
The boy looked worried. “She was supposed to play another solo at the end…said she couldn't, said she had something to do…Hepner sent me to look for her…nobody can find her!”
While it didn't show, Damian was relieved. So he didn't kill her.
“Sorry, I can't help you,” Damian said.
The boy said thanks and took off down the stairs.
Damian stood up, relieved…in a way. Sabrina may not be dead…but she still wasn't around.
He was on his own now if he wanted to find out what was going on.
He decided to detour from the hospitality room and go through C wing. He was thinking… Chloe and Ella and them…they were looking into the freshman curse, he knew. They were victimized by a few of the incidents; why would they not?
Ella had just stood to leave, Aaron following right behind. The five of them trooped slowly down the stairs, not wanting to leave the safety of C wing.
Damian took the stairs opposite them and came down just in front of the five of them. He slowed his pace but didn't turn around, wanting to talk to them but not willing to say the first word.
He wouldn't get his chance to talk to them though.
As Aaron stepped off the stairs, an explosion rocked the school.
They didn't feel the heat, but the ground felt alive, trying to throw them off balance. Damian held onto the lockers for balance; the others were falling all over each other.
Damian had a feeling he knew where the explosion had come from, and once the six teens could stand, they took off towards the rotunda to see where the explosion had come from.
The answer was obvious as Damian turned the corner.
The principal's office.
The lab.
