Cordelia Chase sighed, evaluating her “apartment” again. Sitting on the bed, she could see her entire living space - the table with the phone, the rickety television set, the bathroom through the right, what she considered to be her “kitchen” three paces to the right and the door to the outside world on the left.
It was crap. Utter and total crap. And that was it - her life. This craphole was all that her life consisted of. Dammit - who was she kidding - she had no life.
She smiled bitterly. This wasn't how she'd imagined her life at eighteen, almost - nineteen. She'd pictured herself at college, already engaged to a rich guy who'd keep her in Tiffany's and Versache and everything else a girl needed in order to be happy.
But no - this was it. She was completely broke (to the point where she'd “paid” her last rent payment by sleeping with the owner) and it seemed like the guy with the Tiffany's and the white wedding dream didn't really feel like stopping by.
Closing her eyes so that she could pretend the apartment wasn't that bad, Cordelia Chase prayed:
“Dear God, I know I've never really talked to you before - well, there was that time on parents night with Spike and Willow in the closet - but anyways, I just wanna let you know that I'm still here. I know you probably just forgot but I did ask you for the shining knight in armor when I was five and the queen position when I was twelve - but I know you'll get around to delivering soon. Anyways, just making sure you haven't forgotten me. And…erm…please help me…You know those crappy Chinese sayings: You help me and I - er, get rich? Well, that totally applies here. Whatever. Just help me already!” She paused. “And thank you.”
The spring queen from not so long ago, closed her eyes to sleep, for some reason dreaming of Tiffany's and a certain brunette souled vampire that she'd been trying to get over for nearly three years, and drifted off.

Angel sat in bed, staring at the book he was “reading”. A color photo of Buffy, illuminated by the lamp that sat next to the bed, lay in the center - the culprit that had kept him from realizing that the book was in actuality upside down.
God, she was so beautiful…but no - he had left her for a good reason. So that she could have a better life - without him. He, on the other hand, would make amends; atone for all the wrong he's done in the world.
Growling in frustration, he hurled the book against the wall, causing a few pages to flutter out of the ancient tome.
`Make amends - atone!' He sulked, brooding face in place. `How the hell am I supposed to do that - it's not like everything's just going to fall into my lap…'. Dejectedly, he flipped the lamp off and drifted off, dreaming of the blonde slayer and forbidden love.

“Aarghhhh!!!!” Frances Doyle shot up in bed, screaming as images flashed before his eyes.
-A blonde girl- -A vampire with a soul- -Sex- -Angelus-… Doyle shook as entire lifetimes flashed before his eyes and then -
“Holy mother of Jesus!” The Irish man blurted out. The most beautiful woman he'd ever “seen” flashed before his eyes. -Cordelia Chase-…
As more images assaulted him, the shaken man took in gulps of air, only one thought on his mind: he was in love with Cordelia Chase…and he'd never even met here.

AN: And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the end of the prologue. Once again, everything belongs to Joss Whendon, I'm just taking a closer look at what the characters are thinking and feeling throughout season one (usually Cordelia). Episode One: City of Angels should be up soon. Remember to drop me a line to tall me what you're thinking and - if you'd like to be alerted of future updates, please either email me or tell me so in a review.
