~*~Chapter Five - Blackout~*~

Disclaimer: I don't own anybody in this story so far, everybody here is somebody from the real world (namely my school), I just changed their names to protect their privacy. But I own 'The Curse of Wings.'
The only names that I have not changed are Brianna, Kathy, and Julia.
I also do not own Yami from Yu-Gi-Oh. I just felt like putting him in the authoress notes. It's so much more fun when I get to torture somebody!

THANK YOU TO BRIANNA FOR COMING UP WITH THE IDEA AND BASIC PLOT FOR THIS STORY!

----------
Meira: Okay... I'm not really eligible to enter ANY of the MediaMiner contests without entering a category that has... like a million entries...
Yami: ... Why don't you enter this fic?
Meira: Not sure... haven't gotten my notification letter for the MediaMiner forums yet.
Yami: *sweatdrop* You know, just write this Fic and get over with it... you have until a little after Halloween to finish it up.
Meira: I can wait all the way until NEXT Halloween to update it I wanted to!
Yami: *throws hands up into air* There are only two years left until I get deleted from the Yu-Gi-Oh world! You really want to waste one of those years?
Meira: Who wouldn't?
Yami: *anime fall*

"What just happened?" Meira asked, sounding exasperated.
"Probably just a blackout," Brianna said.
"I can see that," Meira said dryly. "After all, the lights went out for absolutely no reason at all..."
"It doesn't look like there's any light here," Kathy said. "The clouds have covered up the moon, and the entire street's dark."
"You have a flashlight?" Julia asked.
"Can't find it in this light."
"Maybe we'll just have to wait until the lights come back on," Kathy suggested. "After all... you can't really see a lot right now."
"Correction," Julia said. "You can't see anything."
"Yeah," Meira added. "I mean, I can't even see my own hands."
"You did paint your nails black," Julia pointed out.
"That was to match my costume!" Meira shot back. "And Mark said that I looked goth today anyways. I mean, seriously. Painting my nails black and wearing a black motorcycle t-shirt does NOT mean that I'm goth. As soon as Halloween is over, I can burn the black nail polish!"
"Little overreaction there, Meira," Brianna said, smiling slightly. "At least she didn't paint them a bright blue to match the sky!"
They all cracked up.
"That reminds me..." Meira said. "I still haven't given back Zach's sharpie from earlier today... I forgot to give it back after I wrote 'Vote (insert presidential candidate that I support here)' on his binder." [Meira: I'm not going to put who I support here, in fear of flames. That reminds me... NO FLAMES!]
"Yeah," Brianna laughed. "That was fun... after all, he did write 'Vote (insert candidate that I loathe here)' on my math notebook."
"I happen to support (insert candidate that I despise here) you know!" Julia shouted.
"So?" Brianna and Meira asked in unison.
"The lights haven't come back on," Kathy said, not having paid any attention to their political debate. "I still can't see anything... it's weird. Blackouts don't normally last this long."
"Maybe the company is having some trouble with the power generator," Meira suggested. "I've seen longer..."
"But the moon has always been out then," Kathy said. "It's never been like this before. Even on cloudy days, the moon would shine through the clouds. There aren't any stars out either."
"She's right," Brianna murmured, looking out where the window would be. "The stars aren't out."
"And it's not suppposed to be cloudy tonight either," Julia added. "There's supposed to be clear skies tonight."
"Well, we can discuss what we've found so far on 'The Curse of Wings'," Brianna suggested. "Then we could maybe find out a little bit more."
"Well, we don't know much. Just that the earliest recording of something weird happening in this area was five hundred years ago, and the Native American tribe just happened to be in this exact area," Julia said.
"And that this is definitely an old curse, otherwise it wouldn't last that long," Kathy added.
"That is, if that strange thing really was this curse," Brianna said. "We don't know for sure. It's just too far back to research much about."
"But wasn't the center of that tribe right where this house is now?" Kathy asked. "We could maybe go down into your basement and take a look around."
"Once the lights come back on," Julia added. "We don't want to search in the dark."
"Did you guys hear that?" Meira asked.
"Hear what? Julia suggesting that we should search once the lights come back on?"
"Wha-?" There was confusion in Meira's voice. "Wasn't listening to what you guys were saying. I thought I heard something behind me, but I didn't see anything." [Meira: When I was writing this, I got scared and had to turn around to make sure that there was nothing behind me. Did all you viewers feel the same?]
"Nobody can see anything in this dark," Julia said, shaking her head. [Meira: Duh! Nobody saw, I know.]
"Did you hear THAT?" Meira asked. "There's something in this room."
"WE'RE in this room."
"No... something else," Meira said slowly. "There's definitely something besides the four of us in this room. And I don't think it's your brother either."
"Lilith..."
"That I heard," Julia said. [Meira: I'm talking to Julia on the phone right now... how ironic.]
"What's going on?" Kathy asked.
The lights came back on.
"Phew," Brianna said. "I thought that we were doomed for sure..."
Meira shook her head. "That just wasn't right. It was definitely weird. How could the lights just have come back on like that?"
"The power came back on?" Brianna suggested.
"I don't think so!" Meira said.
"And why is that?"
"Because you can see the MOON AND THE STARS!" she said, emphasizing 'Moon and stars'.
They looked outside.
Sure enough, the moon and stars were perfectly visible. It was a clear night.
"Mom?" Brianna called. "What happened with the power outage?"
"What?" her mom called back. "The electricity's been working perfectly! I've had the television and the lights on all this time!"
"What does that mean?"
"There was no power outage!"

----------
Meira: Evil... Halloween... Dance...
Yami: Have a bad time?
Meira: Damn right... it was terrible. Hated all the music, the food sucked, spent half the dance standing by the wall (*cough* GLTB), yelled myself hoarse, I'm still half deaf from the music, found out that the phrase I say the most is 'Never mind', hated everything there, Julia and Kathy had to leave early, spent a lot of time talking to my guy friends instead of my other friends... Mark said that I looked goth because I painted my nails black TO MATCH MY COSTUME...
Yami: That does sort of match with the gothic description...
Meira: *points at face* No black eyeshadow, eyeliner, or lipstick? And blonde highlights?
Yami: Point taken.
Meira: Good thing there isn't another dance until... December. *shudders* Ballroom dancing...
Yami: Can't stand around and do nothing?
Meira: Nope. Have to ballroom dance.
Yami: Torture.
Meira: Yup. But I got some good ideas for the Fic there! Happy Halloween everybody!
Yami: And review while you're at it! FLAMES WILL BE FLAMED RIGHT BACK!
Meira: Only too bad this fic will be finished AFTER Halloween... And I'm not using Word, so no spell check.
Yami: *anime fall* That was relevant because...?
Meira: *shrugs* Felt like saying something random.
Yami: But kinda a short chapter, don't you think?
Meira: SHUT UP! IT WAS THE PERFECT PLACE TO END THE CHAPTER!
Yami: That's always your excuse.
Meira: Well, it's true!
Yami: Riiight.
Meira: Just be glad there was a chapter...
Yami: Good point...
