Chapter 1: The Awakening of the Dragon Sword

In a world of endless wars, the people of Kirea were tired of the political unrest, the countless battles, the lost of peace. Long ago, ten kingdoms captured an ancient dragon, enslaved them, and then placed them into orbs. These orbs are called the dragon orbs, which carry incredible power such as the ability to fly, teleport, and even bestow magic upon the user. However, whoever uses these orbs gains the enmity of all dragon kind for eternity.

The ten orbs have since a great war between the ten kingdoms long ago have been scattered, within the hands of anyone who wants to use its power. Only one orb however has never been found. This orb, the golden orb, is the most powerful of all the other orbs, as it can do almost anything the other orbs can do. Great searches for this orb has every single time, failed. The kingdom that once held this orb was sacked and destroyed, it's land separated by the other kingdoms because of the fighting between them.

"Mother, I' am home!" A young 17 year old came into a lowly farmer house.

"Ah, Lyrus! Welcome home, how was the work on the fields today?" His mother asked him.

"The harvest this year is going to be the best I've seen it ever." Lyrus excitedly said, sitting down at the dinner table.

"That's good to hear. Now if only those darn Flinners didn't have to come and take most of our crops every year, we could be living happy." His mother said, as she tended to the pots and pans on the oven.

"Lyrus!" A yell came from outside.

"Oh, that must be that lovely girl Lucia. After what you two have done together, you might as well marry her." His mother suggested, her back to him as she tended to the food being cooked.

"Mother! We are just friends, nothing more and nothing less. Besides, I really think that her family is going to have a marriage arrangement with a richer family." Lyrus said, as he opened the door.

"Well, if that is so, then I would suggest you run off with her or support her marriage."

"Mom! There is no way that I would leave this house."

"Oh son…you will leave this house one day and grow up to be a great man. I just know it." His mother lastly said, as Lyrus closed the door.

Lyrus quickly ran up to Lucia. "So, how is my 16-year-old stick wielding, long black-haired maiden doing today?"

"Lyrus! Stop kidding around…you know I don't like to be called a maiden, and I have cute brown streaks in my hair too you know. It's not like I call you a 17-year-old wooden sword wielding, short brown-haired farmer now, right?" Lucia said, her hands on her hips as her Ramseur leaned on her shoulder.

"Hey, you know I can never afford a sword."

"Yeah, but you are pretty darn good swordsman considering."

"I guess so, anyway I guess we should be going, right?"

"Yeah, lets go." Lucia said as the two started toward the next town, as they left their hometown behind.

Lyrus and Lucia at the next town bought supplies for both their households. Lucia of course paid for everything, since her family was the richer of the two. While going there and back, they fought with countless monsters that Lyrus weakened and Lucia killed. The two were used to their roles, as they handled Lyrus's wooden handicap excellently.

Fire bellowed everywhere; death reined the air, the swords of me bloodied with the stains of the innocent. That is what Lyrus and Lucia came home to, as they stood in the middle of the town, everyone dead. Lucia's house was already burned down, her parents laid out in front of the house, dead. They ran over to Lyrus's house, only to find it burned down. In front of it were soldiers of the Flinalia kingdom. One of them raised their swords, and stabbed Lyrus's mother right though the heart.

Lyrus screamed in agony, as the Flinish soldiers drew their weapons.

"Lyrus! We got to run, there is too many of them, and they are well equipped!" Lucia grabbed Lyrus's shoulder.

"No, they killed my mother, and they will not get away with it." Lyrus said, drawing out his wooden sword. The Flinish soldiers laughed.

"Well, well, we will let you live if you turn over your pretty girlfriend over to us for our…'personal use.'" One of the soldiers said. Lyrus didn't care, he charged at them and swung away.

The soldiers laughed, as the wooden sword couldn't penetrate their armor, as Lyrus skillfully dodged all their attacks. Lucia on the other hand was having success with her Ramseur as it swung around, killing two of the soldiers, but many more were gathering around her than Lyrus. Finally, Lyrus skillfully parried an attack and swung his sword at the attacker's head. The attacker simply turned his head away, and the wooden sword broke in half. The soldiers laughed, until one of them got stabbed with the broken hilt of the sword.

Suddenly, they managed to grab Lucia and they threw her down in front of Lyrus, and one of the men put his weapon on her throat.

"Stupid boy, your girlfriend will now pay for your mistake!"

One moment.

A single moment that will change this young man's life.

The one moment that will forever change the course of Kirea's history.

Lyrus screamed in agony, as he dug his hand into the ground, and grasped his hand around something. He pulled it out quickly, it's blinding light blinding everyone except Lyrus, as he killed the soldier holding Lucia. It's brightness quickly faded, as the soldiers stood stunned. Lyrus stood in front of them, holding a bastard sword with a golden orb socketed into it.

"Sword of the dragons, protect me! Protect all that I hold dear! Zenith's Fury!" Lyrus yelled out, pointing the sword to the sky, as bright golden fire as high as twenty feet formed all around Lyrus and Lucia and spun around and incinerated all the soldiers around them.

"Lyrus…" Lucia could only simply say, as Lyrus suddenly looked at the sword, wondering how it came to be within his hands.

"How did you do that Lyrus?" Lucia asked, stunned as he held the sword in front of her. She stood up, and then yelped in pain as she fell back down. Lyrus knelt next to her.

"Lucia, your hurt. There is a big cut on your right leg." Lyrus pointed out, as she turned around to expose the wound to him.

"Lyrus, go get a doctor in the next town. I'll be okay."

"Non-sense Lucia. There might be more Flinish soldiers coming." Lyrus said, stabbing the sword into the ground next to Lucia's injured leg. Instantly, Lucia's leg instantly healed up. The two looked at the sword, as Lyrus pulled the sword out, looking at it.

"Lyrus Legaia, I have chosen you to guide me on a quest." A voice said. Lyrus and Lucia looked around, looking for the thing that said it.

"Lyrus Legaia, my sole descendent, look toward the sword, and see the golden orb." Lyrus and Lucia looked at the golden orb, within it, was a dragon, sleeping.

"Hello Lyrus, I ask you to only do two things. Do you know the story of the Dragon Orbs?" The voice within the sword asked.

"I do, long long ago, ten kingdoms captured ten dragons, and trapped them into ten orbs that those kingdoms used against the others." Lucia answered.

"Good. Your quest as my lone descendant is to retrieve the other nine orbs, and go to the Altar of Dragons and release the dragons within the orbs, including myself." The sword said.

"Why do you keep calling me your lone descendant? How do you know my name? Why have you chosen me?" Lyrus asked.

"You, Lyrus Legaia, are my grandson. My many great grandson, that is. I once roamed the land as a human, not as the dragon trapped in this orb you see in this sword. I married one of your ancestors, and we had several children. I reluctantly left my wife and children to protect the kingdom, by entrapping me into this orb, with the promise they will release me after defending the kingdom. Not only did the kingdom fall, because the power of the orb you see in front of you is the most powerful, but also I witnessed my wife and children, except one, all perish. Humans are not deserving of the power of dragons, so I' am asking you as my descendant to take this sword, and take up this quest."

"But how do you know my name, if you were buried here for---"

"Ten millennia."

"Ten millennia?" Lucia replied.

"Ten millennia, for nearly all that time, I was buried here, but I witnessed all around me. You, Lyrus Legaia, I deemed the only one able to take up this sword, and not be corrupted by it. I was incredibility lucky as well, as you two most likely would've died had Lyrus not dug his hand here."

"Well, thanks. I guess I owe it to you, as you saved us both. Just where are these orbs?" Lyrus asked.

"The orbs are scattered, we must scry where they are at, though I know of one orb's location. It is the brass orb, and it lays within the Regalia kingdom, the orb is a part of a brass statue right in the middle of the capital's town square."

"That's not that far from here, that's about two towns out. Lucia, are you going to come along?" Lyrus asked.

"Of course, I owe my life to you and the sword, not to mention im your best friend."

"Can you please not call me `the sword'?"

"Sure, but what will we call you?" Lyrus asked.

"Call me by my human name, Vahn Legaia."

"Alright then, lets get going."

"10 gold pieces please." The Innkeeper said. Lucia simply placed a platinum piece down, as the innkeeper gave her 90 gp in change. Lyrus went over upstairs to their room and sat down on a chair.

"What is it Lyrus?" Vahn asked Lyrus.

"Well, did you notice how everyone looked at us?" Lyrus noted.

"I did." Lucia noted. "In fact, all of them were noting my body and you, Vahn."

"I see… I'm too visible, correct?" Vahn said.

"Yes, and not only that, if we get into any battles, I don't want to use you unless needed. If every nation is looking for you, once they hear about me wielding this sword, they're going to try everything to get you. The less visible we are, the better." Lyrus stood and placed the Dragon sword on the table.

"Well, that's easy Lyrus if I need to be less visible." Vahn simply said, as the Dragon sword changed into a blue light and surrounded Lyrus's right arm. Is solidified into a bracer with a small gold orb socketed into it. "If you need the sword, just call out, `Sword of the Dragon, rise from the light' and the sword will appear."

"Thanks Vahn. Now what we need is some cloaks and a sword for me." Lyrus stated as he looked outside. Lucia simply pulled out two cloaks and a bastard sword and placed them on the table.

"Since when did you have those with you?" Lyrus asked in amazement as he put on his brown cloak with hood.

"Before we left town to get the supplies." Lucia said as she put on her blue cloak with hood. She then handed the bastard sword to Lyrus. "This used to be Lintel's before he was killed. This sword has almost the same weight and properties as the Dragon sword, so it should fit our uses."

"Thank you Lucia." Lyrus said as he took the sword and sheathed it. "And thank you…Lintel."

"Well, should we get some sleep Lyrus?" Lucia asked.

"Yeah, lets." Lyrus said as the two took off their robes and equipment except the only piece of equipment not coming off, Lyrus's bracer. The two then noticed that there is only one king sized bed. The two shrugged as they went into the bed and went to sleep.

The next morning, Lyrus woke up and saw an angel. Or, at least, Lucia's face next to his, her arms pressed against his chest. He also noticed he had her arms around her waist. Lucia then opened her eyes, and the two stared into the pools of each other's eyes. The two quickly blushed and they leapt out of bed.

"I…um…" Lucia blushed more brightly.

"Err…. I'll shower first, okay?" Lyrus said, and Lucia nodded as Lyrus headed into the shower. Inside, the faucet and the shower were controlled magically, so Lyrus only had to turn the knob and the water automatically adjusted to be the right temperature.

Outside, Lucia sat at the table, thinking about what just happened. She curled up into a ball in the chair and pressed her lips against her legs. She just stared at the table as Lyrus came out of bathroom and sat down at the table. The two of them just stared at each other, then blushed more as Lucia got up and went into the bathroom.

"Ah…human emotions…just don't let them get in the way." Vahn said.

"What do you mean?" Lyrus asked.

"You like Lucia. Not only that, but she likes you too." Vahn plainly said.

"I heard that!" Lucia yelled from the shower.

"Well, you moaned `I love you Lyrus' in your sleep!" Vahn yelled back, a blushing Lyrus looked down. In the shower, Lucia blushed also. "Anyway, you two in battle better put your love emotions aside, or it's going to get both of you killed."

Lyrus looked at his bracer. "Sorry, alright. Let's just get going before someone we don't want finding us does."
