Fan Fiction ❯ The Exam ❯ The Exam ( Chapter 1 )

[ A - All Readers ]

The large, demanding, upstanding clock boomed over the petrified teenagers below its deathly presence. Heads were hung low but the tension was sky high.

“Half time!” A voice boomed out, slicing the silence in two. The ever present head teacher, Mr Kelly, stood guard, leering intimidating glances from student to student. His eyes seemed to dart around the room like an eagle on the hunt, resting carefully on several particular students. One of these students lifted up blue, Chinese eyes to him and gave a scowl as she wrapped her eyes back into the intimidating exam in front of her. She let out a small growl as she stared at the question again.
~oh my god, I don’t know any of this. I’m so bored. Bored. BORED.~

Two rows across from the young teenager, a red head glared across the hall, cursing the night before when she made a psychic chain with Jubilee to help in her studying. Due to overloading stress, she couldn’t break it. It seemed Jubilee was as much a chatterbox in her head just as much as in person. Jean let out a mental sigh.

~Jubilee- please! I’m trying to concentrate.~
The Chinese girl gave a shocked expression, but her eyes shadowed as a grin came to her face.
~Oh, sorry red.~ Jean returned to her straining position, hunched over the desk angrily.
~So whaddya get for 4b?~
~Miss lee! That is cheating - You know better!~
~Sorry! Just…you know.~
~Haven’t you revised at all?!~
~Yeah! Well, kind of. You know what Wolverine is like - total motor mouth - he wouldn’t give me any peace all last night. Sheesh!~
~You mean that you harassed him all night?~
Jubilee glared hot on the red head’s back.
~No! Anyway, I’m trying to concentrate, Jeanie.~
~*Sigh*~

Concentrate? Far from it. Jubilee tapped her pencil on the hard, cold wooden desk, raving ever cold glances from everyone in the hall that could hear the insistent tapping. She eyed the question in a hurry and scrunched up her face in confusion. She remembered looking at this when Logan came in, turned and tried to run as Jubilee bounded behind him and demanded his attention. She smiled to herself, but sudden panic came over as the clock slyly seemed to go that little bit faster.

~*grr* I can’t do this stupid exam. I wish I was at the mansion. Hey - I fancy a big pizza tonight with extra pepperoni. Yum. Then we could get a film - or two! Yeah, we could have girls night in. or we could go out! I can wear my new top I got last week from the mall! Yeah- that would be so cool. How would we get down though? I’ll have to ask Scott. Or maybe Wolvie would take me. I don’t think we could fit anyone else on his harley. ~
Jean gritted her teeth angrily, burring her head lower and lower into her exam paper so much so her nose was touching it.
~Jubilation…~ She warned strongly, ready to throw a chair at her head just to silence her.
Jubilee gave a small, sneaky grin as she saw the red head visibly fume and stick a hand to her forehead in distress as Jubilee stuck out her jaw and persevered.

~I wonder if everyone else gets this. I don’t. Kitty’s finished?! Oh my god! Well, at least Cyke looks like he’s having a mental breakdown. I hope he doesn’t break his glasses again and bust the roof wide. Actually, that would be handy. Man, it’s cold. Like, freezing. Why are exam halls so Damn cold?! What are we living the artic now? I can’t wait to go out tonight. It’s gonna ROCK! …hey, rogue is doodling on her paper…I bet she’s writing Gambit all over it. They so love each other, it’s just a shame he’s on the bad side. Saying that, Quicksilver is kinda cute, don’t ya think? Dude, I’m bored. BORED. I know, I’ll count the ceiling tiles~
Jean shook her head in pure dismay. She wouldn’t…
~One, two, three…four, five..six, seven, eight…nine…wait were was I? Oh well, one, two….three..~
~THE ANSWER IS 48.9!~ jean mentally screamed across the room, her breathing suddenly heavy and red hair slightly ruffled. Her green eyes tensed as she shut them tightly, letting out a short, sharp breath. Jubilee sniggered with delight.
~Hey, don’t you know that’s cheating, Jeanie? You should know better!~
Jubilee scribbled down the answer, sitting back with a chirpy sigh of relief.
~Only sixteen more questions to go!~
~*Grrr!*

Fin.
