Fan Fiction ❯ The Four Lords ❯ South and West Collide! ( Chapter 22 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Brittany didn't know what time it was or how much time had passed since she had been thrown into the dark cell. All she knew was that it couldn't be too much longer until Celine would carry out her promise and punish her. Just as Brittany predicted a few moments later she heard the doors far above her being opened and the sound of someone coming down towards her. Two demons, the same two Brittany realized that had brought her to the dungeon, came towards her. They opened up her cell and roughly yanked her off of the ground and proceeded to carry her back towards the door. Well this is it. I don't know wether to be happy or sad that Celine said she wouldn't kill me. I can't use any spells because of this damn restraint! There's no telling what's going to happen to me now. Alex, if you ever meant any word you told me. If you truly love me. If you truly want to protect me, please help me. I can't do this! Dammit Alex I need you!

Alex and Kiba came to a mouth of a cave which would take them deeper into Celine's territory. They had been traveling ever since dawn and already the sun was high above their heads signaling noontime. Both of them peered out from behind the coverage of the trees to observe six demons lulling about around the entrance of the cave. Alex stared at them intently as he formed a plan of action. Kiba's gaze wavered however as he stared at Alex checking to make sure he was okay.
This journey's been a hard one. We've traveled non stop for about six hours and have covered well over two hundred miles. I'm not as young as I used to be and this is rough on me. The lad's not too much better off with all his wounds. I can tell he's having trouble breathing but he'd never admit it. The only thing he has on his mind right now is Brittany. I don't know wether to admire him or call him stupid. He's pushing aside all his pain and disregarding all physical signs that what he's planning to do will be suicide. He know's damn well that if he tries to get her that he'll end up facing the Lord of the west in battle. Normally that would be bad enough with his seal, but the fact that his body's yet to heal ensures his failure. If he'd stop and rest for a little while and let his wounds heal, but he's too single minded to even consider anything else unless it revolves rescuing Brittany. Love turns even the wisest of men into idiots, and the most cautious of demons into rash unpredictable...hero's. Kiba thought. Alex turned to him and motioned for Kiba to fall back a little bit so the demon's couldn't overhear their conversation. Kiba nodded as he followed Alex deeper into the forest.
"Here's the plan. I'll go up and distract them while you sneak around and when I give the signal we'll attack them from both sides. This way we'll conserve our strength and energy for the real challenge." Alex whispered. Kiba could tell that Alex's voice was strained and that it was taking all he had to retrain his composure. Alex noticed Kiba's expression and decided to question him about it."What is it?"
"My Lord, I know you don't want to hear this, but perhaps you should rest. Your wounds haven't healed, and you know as well as I do that fighting the Lord of the west with serious wounds is not something any rational or sane person would do." Kiba said softly.
"I've never claimed to be either rational nor sane. I can't wait and let my wounds heal. I've got to get to her, I'm not waiting anymore." Alex said sternly.
"My Lord listen to yourself! You've always been overly cautious of everything. Now when you need to be cautious your going to charge in half cocked and get yourself killed. Do you really think Brittany wants you to die to save her! The lass is strong, but not strong enough to endure the pain of you dying for her." Kiba replied in a voice that made Alex's blood turn cold.
"I will after we clear the path to her castle. Not a moment longer than what is necessary will we wait. Do you understand?" Alex said softly admitting his defeat.
"As you wish my Lord." Kiba said with a smirk as he turned back to face the mouth of the cave. "On your command."
"Wait for my signal then strike." Alex whispered as he pulled his cloak over his head, grabbed his staff, and started walking towards the mouth of the cave. Kiba instantly darted off in the opposite direction so he could sneak up on the demons. Alex exited the woods using his staff to support himself as he hobbled over to the entrance to the cave. The demon's jumped up quickly as they glared at him with glowing eyes. Alex looked out from beneath his hood to ensure that he could see Kiba. Sure enough Kiba was perched on the cave wall not too far from where the demon's were. Alex shook his head lightly to keep Kiba from attacking as he continued towards the demons. Just as Alex was about to give the signal for Kiba to attack one of the demon's spoke to him.
"You must be the cleric the Lord of the west sent for." the demon said with an amused expression on his face. "Your early, but I doubt she'll mind. She can't start without you anyway so its probably good that your early."
Lord of the west...Celine, why would she want a cleric? Alex's mind raced with possible answers as he lifted his head up to better look at the demon. At the same time he signaled for Kiba to stay where he was.
"Why exactly does someone such as herself have need for my humble services?" Alex asked in a soft, pleasant voice. Kiba shook his head in disbelief that such a voice could even come from Alex as he watched the scene unfold from his hiding spot.
"Humble is right." the demon sneered. "All I know is that you'll be healing that human bitch from the south."
"What do you mean? What human?" Alex asked as he tried to keep his voice calm. Brittany...for God's sake please be okay. I don't like the fact that Celine's hired a cleric to heal you. That doesn't bode well for your future.
"Surely you must've heard about the Lord of the south making a human wench his mate. Well evidently our Lord's gotten her hands on the bitch and now she's going to have some fun with her." the demon replied with a smirk.
"What kind of fun exactly and why would it require my services?" Alex asked.
"You ask a lot of questions for someone who's just here to heal someone." the demon retorted. "If it'll get you to hurry up I'll tell you. The Lord is going to put her through the chamber of death. After which you'll heal her so that she can give the girl over to the Lord of the north unharmed. Now no more questions lets go."
"The chamber of death. She can't do that to a human!" Alex yelled. He momentarily forgot that he was supposed to be acting as a cleric, causing the demon to look at him with surprise.
"She can and she is. Now I'd suggest you shut your mouth and come along with me. The Lord will be pissed if you don't hurry up. Trust me, she'll take it out of your skin. Besides, I don't want to be there if the Lord of the north gets there and his new play toy is destroyed. Also I can't wait to see that slut go through the chamber of death. If you don't heal her completely I might take a part of her as a souvenir." the demon laughed at his last statement until he heard a low growl coming from Alex. "Hey, what's wrong with you?"
"That terrible news." Alex said softly. The demon looked at Alex with question when Alex's hand brushed past his face in a blur of motion causing the demon's eyes to bulge. Alex held his right hand out as he dropped his staff. In his right hand which was dripping with blood contained the demon's Adam's apple. Alex squished it in his hands as he looked up at the demon his eyes cold and emotionless. "I'll have to have a chat with Celine about her manners." The demon's backed away in shock as Alex grabbed the demons head with his right hand. Without any effort at all Alex crushed the demon's skull in his hand as he glared up at the remaining five demons. They turned to flee but before they could Kiba jumped out from his hiding spot and blocked their path.
"Shit, he's a demon." one of the demon's said. "The other one, he called our Lord by name, that means he must be the Lord of the south."
"Right on the first guess. Kiba, show him his prize." Alex said coldly as he flung the blood from his hand. In a swift motion Kiba decapitated the demon and quickly tore into the remaining five. Before they even had time to scream Kiba had killed all of them. He shook his head as he looked up at Alex.
"You really need to learn to control your temper my Lord. We could've used them to tell us where they were holding Brittany." Kiba said in an exasperated tone.
"There's no need for that. There's only one place Celine could take her to use the chamber of death and I know just where that is." Alex replied as he glared angrily at the horizon. "So much for taking a rest."
"Given the circumstances I'll let you off this once." Kiba retorted as he turned towards the mouth of the cave. "I can't believe she'd use something as horrible as the chamber of death on the lass."
"I can believe it. I knew that Brittany wouldn't last long there before she got beneath Celine's skin. Celine's never liked losing that much, this is just another way of proving her superiority. Using something that was forbidden, she's taking this to a whole new level. The last time that was used was when...when they used it on me." Alex said softly. He shook his head trying to erase the painful memories from his mind.
"Aye, I know lad. Let's go get her." Kiba condoled as he placed his hand on Alex's shoulder.
"Yes, let's head on. There's no way in hell I'm going to let Celine do that to Brittany. No one, and I mean no one deserves to be put through that. I'll be damned if I'm about to stand by and let the woman I love go through that." Alex declared as he clenched his fist in a solemn vow. He turned and nodded to Kiba as they both silently headed through the mouth of the cave.
* * * * * * * *
Celine grinned evilly as Brittany was dropped roughly on the ground in front of her. "That will be all." Celine said as she waved the demons away. The bowed and left, leaving Brittany alone with Celine in a circular room with a passageway behind Celine. "Now my dear, its time to show you what angering a demon lord will get you."
With that Celine turned towards the passageway and sighed. "This place hasn't been used in a long time. Using it was forbidden by the demon lord himself, but since his death I've found it very useful." Celine stopped and turned to look at Brittany as a new thought entered her mind. "Now that I think about it, the last time this was used, was on your beloved boyfriend."
This can't be good. The way she's talking , this must've been one of Alex's punishments for killing the southern lord. What does she have planned for me? Brittany thought as she struggled against her restraints. Its no good, I'm at her mercy.
"Judging by the look in your eyes you don't know what this is. Well it looks like I have the pleasure of telling you about this nifty little place. You see this place is called the chamber of death. It was originally created by the demon lord and the archmage to torture followers of Scion into giving information. The Lord later condemned its use however, he said that the horror's of this chamber should never be used on anyone ever again. After the Lord's death we decided that he was too brash in deciding that it shouldn't be used, so we kept it for those who were against our rule. The last person to be put through this was Kane, that was an amusing sight. They say that even the most magnificent minds will go crazy after being in here for ten minutes. We left Kane in here for ten days. Ten days of feeling your body die, reliving your worst nightmares and greatest fears while having nothing but complete darkness to comfort you. Most people commit suicide in the chamber, that's the reason I've gotten the aid from a cleric just in case you try to pull a stunt like that." Celine paused and smiled as she saw Brittany expression. "You should've seen your boyfriend when we finally drug him out of there. He was literally driven insane by what he experienced in there. He was nothing more than a husk of himself when he was brought out though. He couldn't or wouldn't talk, eat, or do anything else. He lost his very will to live, for a moment we thought we had finally gotten rid of him. He eventually regained his sanity and seemed to have suppressed his memories of his chamber experience. Like I said before he's a hard one to read so there's no telling how fucked up he really is."
My God they're monsters. Alex was put in there for ten days! Forced to die over and over again, no wonder he doesn't want to talk about his past. How could anyone live a normal life after that? How...Alex, you said there where things about your past that you didn't want me to know now I can see why. Now I'm going to experience something that you would've ensured would never happen to me. The more I think about it, the more I want you to come get me out of here. Dammit Alex, I'm not going like this, but I need you to be my knight in shining armor one more time. Brittany thought as tears began to roll down her cheek. I don't want to...I don't want to go in there. Please save me.
"I see you've finally accepted your fate. That's good, that will make things more interesting." Celine said. "Now all we have to do is wait for the cleric to come. Then you get to enjoy all the horrors of the chamber." As if on cue a demon knocked on the door.
"My Lord, we've sighted the cleric. Evidently Suijo was too busy mouthing off again and didn't do his job cause the cleric's traveling alone. Do you want me to send him to you?" the demon asked from behind the door.
"No, I shall go greet him personally. I don't want him getting the wrong idea now do I?" Celine said with an evil smile as she walked past Brittany and opened up the door. "Don't go anywhere, I'll be right back."
You bitch.... Brittany thought as she glared at Celine through red tear stained eyes. You better pray that I never get out of here. If I ever get the chance I'll make sure to rip you in half you bitch! Damn, there's got to be some way to get out of here...but how?

Alex stopped in front of the impressive castle and closed his eyes. Now, if I'm right, I should be able to sense her. Alex concentrated harder as he mentally searched for Brittany. Finally, just as he predicted he found where she was at. There, she's safe for now, but that won't last for long. Alex then looked over in the woods to his right and nodded to Kiba. Signaling to him that he was right about where Brittany was. Kiba waved in response as he immediately darted off in the direction of the back of the castle.
Kiba, I'm putting my faith in you. Don't let me down. Alex turned his attention back towards the enormous front doors of the castle as they opened to allow him in. Once inside he immediately recognized the form of Celine who gallantly walked towards him. Alex noted that she was wearing her usual colors of dark blue and silver as her dress puffed out around her in silver spirals.
"Well, I'm glad you're finally here. Now I can begin without fear of someone dying." Celine said with a fake smile. She stopped suddenly as she sniffed the air. Her face became hard as stone as she glared at Alex. "Why do I smell demonic blood on one such as yourself?"
"Sorry, but your guards at the cave won't be here for the festivities." Alex said coldly as he shoved his hood back revealing who he was. "When I'm through with you, you'd wish you'd been put in the chamber of death instead of Brittany."
"So you did come here after all...I'm surprised. This girls got you on a tighter leash that I would've thought, but oh well. I'll just kill you and then have my fun with her." Celine said with an amused expression on her face. "What kind of fool comes to a fight that he knows he can't win?"
"The fool is the one who believes they are going to win before the battle has even begun." Alex countered as he threw down his staff and took of his cloak. He flexed his hand menacingly as his claws grew and his knuckles cracked. "You've never fought me in a fair fight before, so what do you know about my strength?"
"I know that it only takes one word to bring you to your knees...or have you forgotten that?" Celine smiled with a cruel smirk. "Your subjugation spell is assurance enough that you won't be able to lay a finger on me."
"Not if you can't talk to say the spell!" Alex yelled as he launched himself at Celine. Celine smiled wickedly as she readied herself for his attack. Right before he got to her she said the spell.
"Now you will die Kane. Yameru!" Celine recited as she stared expectantly for what was to come.
