“We are not here by choice.” Kiba growled in response. “We were chased in here, this was the only place we go.”

“I find that unlikely to believe. Besides the fact that there should be no way a demon should be able to get in here, I don’t see anyone chasing you.” the elf replied as he gestured to the barrier behind them. Just as he said this the Hunter’s appeared out of the snow and were thrown back by the barrier.

“You were saying?” Kiba replied with a smirk. “The Lord of the west took this lass for the southern Lord’s territory, she is his mate.” Kiba gestured towards Brittany and Alex before continuing. “We don’t want to bother you, nor do we want to go back outside the barrier, not until the Lord has healed. He is the one who got us through the barrier, so if you want the exact specifications I suggest you keep him alive so he can answer you.”
“I could care less about the how or the why. Either way I want you out of here.” the elf replied coldly.

“Well we’re not leaving until the Lord is well. So either you heal him yourself or take of this lass’s restraint with your magic so she can heal him!” Kiba argued. Brittany looked back and forth from each of the arguing men trying to figure out why they were at each other’s throats. The elf thought for a moment before turning his attention towards Brittany. He gazed at the restraint around her mouth before looking back at Kiba with disgust.

“We cannot remove that. Only a very powerful demon or a powerful mage could get that off. Our magic is of the nature and for healing. We do not deal with the dark arts such as this.” the elf said. He was about to say more when he stopped and looked past Kiba towards the barrier. Kiba turned to look only to see Zanatos there standing at the edge of the barrier cursing. Celine was still in her demonic form as she landed behind him and closed her wings around her giving them the appearance of a dress that clung to her body. Even though they could not make out what Zanatos said they could tell he was angry by his appearance the faces of those around him. He struck at the barrier angrily, cursing while he did it. Finally when things silenced they could make out pieces of the conversation.

“Zanatos, how do you imagine Kane was able to get through there?” Celine asked softly trying not to provoke Zanatos’s wrath.

“How the hell do you expect me to know?” Zanatos snapped. “The archmage created this so only he should be able to enter it. Evidently there are some secrets that the mages have been keeping from us. I will have to have a chat with them. Come, they’ve escaped us for now. Next time, they will not be so lucky.”

Zanatos turned to leave as Celine, along with the Hunter’s followed suite. Celine took to the sky a flew directly above Zanatos. It wasn’t until Zanatos entered the woods that the dark form that Brittany had seen following them emerged from it taking flight and heading back towards the western castle.

“It seems you have made some powerful enemies.” the elf mused, contemplating all he had just seen.

“Aye, even more of a reason for you to help us. The Lord of the north is a common enemy for the both of us.” Kiba said gruffly.

“You misinterpret my words.” the elf corrected quickly. “We do not like the Lord of the north, but that doesn’t mean we’d ally ourselves with demons either.”

“If memory serves me correctly, you did once before.” Kiba said softly as he stared into space remembering the past. It seemed to Brittany that the elf had the same look in his eyes before returning to the present.

“That was different times calling for drastic action. Also, there was a different Lord if I’m not mistaken. One who can command the four realms such as him I hold in high esteem. Even so, one demon cannot undo all the treacheries of his ancestors.” the elf replied with both a hint of anger and sadness.

“Still, this lad has done no wrong to you. Neither him nor this lass, so you can’t blame your troubles on them. Your kind was taken away while the Lord was banished to the human realm, if anyone you should be blaming it would be.” Kiba said finally. “So do what you want with me, but at least heal up the Lord and let him and the lass be on their ways.”

Brittany looked in shock at what Kiba was suggesting. She quickly grabbed his arm and shook her head trying to get him to come to his senses.

“No lass. I’ve sworn my loyalty to the Lord. I swore to protect him with my life. I swore that my entire clan would protect him. If sacrificing myself to these heartless bastards will ensure his and your safety, this old wolf has no regrets.” Kiba said with a soft smile as he patted Brittany’s head. He turned back to the elves waiting their response.

“Such a noble act, truly befitting your pedigree.” the elf replied with a smirk. “Regardless, we could not allow you to stay or to help you. You have singlehandedly led the Lord of the north here and shown him that there is a way to get in here. Do you know what he would do if he possessed that knowledge? He could create as many crystals to amplify his power as he wanted. All at the costs of the few magical creatures that still remain.”

Brittany looked confused as Kiba sighed and shook his head. She looked back at the elf trying to figure out what was going on.

“I see, she doesn’t know about the truth behind the original Lord’s crystals. It seems someone hasn’t told her why this barrier was erected in the first place.” the elf said with an amused expression on his face as he glared at Kiba. “Not trying to protect the original Lord’s honor still, are you?”

“I told her all she needed to know.” Kiba retorted. Finally he conceded when he looked at Brittany’s confused and pitiful expression. “The original Lord, the crystals that he had, that increased his power were gifts from the archmage. The only way those crystals could be created was through the blood and lives of the mystical creatures that live in here. Once the Lord obtained the crystals and the secret of their origin got out all the demons tried to kill the creatures in hopes of creating a crystal for themselves. It was then decided that the archmage would create a barrier powerful of repelling all demons even the demon lord himself from entering. The creatures were placed in this safe haven where they could come and go as they pleased.”

The elf smiled at Brittany’s shocked reaction as he turned back to face Kiba. “This is why you must leave this instant! We have been betrayed once before by our own kind, do you really think we would trust a demon?”

“What if I told you that the one that betrayed you was slain by his hands.” Kiba said motioning towards Alex. Brittany looked up at Kiba as she realized what he was talking about. “As soon as my Lord returned Ryza was the first one the Lord visited. Needless to say Ryza is no longer among the living.”

“I would say that for your Lord to kill Ryza he must not be as weak as everyone makes him out to be.” the elf said. Kiba became angry at these words as he emitted a guttural growl. “Although on his behalf I will say this; his act has ensured that we will not kill you. Even though I’m sure he did not kill Ryza for his betrayal of us, he killed him none the less.”

Kiba growled at this response. “Like you could really kill us that easily! I may not be who I used to, but that does not mean I am any less deadly.”

What’s Kiba talking about? We don’t have time for all this arguing Alex is dying and the longer this goes on the nearer to death he becomes. Not too mention the fact that I feel as if I’m seriously missing something here! Brittany stood up quickly, glancing down at Alex and then back at Kiba. She grabbed his arm and pointed at Alex showing Kiba how bad he looked. Kiba closed his eyes before looking back at the lead elf

“Rire, regardless of what has happened in the past, the Lord needs help. Please, at least give us supplies so that we may take care of him.” Kiba pleaded softly.

“As much joy as I get from seeing one such as yourself beg for another’s life I cannot do it.” Rire said coldly. He was about to say more when he suddenly looked above him to see a rather large white form descend upon him. Brittany was the first one to realize what it was as the white pegasus landed between Kiba and Rire. The pegasus looked at Brittany and to Alex before looking at Rire. Rire became instantly upset that the pegasus had shown itself in front of Kiba and Brittany and began talking to it in what Brittany realized was the same language that Alex had spoken to call the pegasus to them. The horse whinnied in response to Rire’s words as he glanced over at Alex’s mangled body then turned to look at Brittany. Without taking his eyes off of Brittany he spoke to the pegasus again as if confirming something. The horse whinnied again as Rire grudgingly acknowledged Brittany.

“This pegasus has informed me of some interesting information.” Rire said slowly, cautiously choosing his words. He motioned with his head towards Alex as he spoke. “He says that this one, the Lord of the south can speak the ancient language. He said you were there as a witness, is this true?”

It was Kiba’s turn to be surprised as he looked at Brittany to see if she knew what Rire was talking about. Brittany glanced quickly at Alex and then back to Rire before nodding her head to confirm what he had said. Rire scowled as he turned back to the pegasus and spoke in hushed tones. Kiba looked over at Brittany and whispered. “Is it true lass? Can the Lord really speak in the ancient language?”

Brittany once again nodded ‘yes’ before going back to Alex to continue wiping the blood away and trying to stop the bleeding. Her attention was immediately drawn back to Rire as he let out a nearly inaudible gasp as he looked wide eyed at Alex. He stared in disbelief as he quickly blurted out many words in the ancient language as he turned back to the pegasus as if to ensure that what ever he had just heard was correct. The pegasus nodded its head and whinnied in response as it too turned to face Alex. Rire paled as he opened his mouth to speak but shut it quickly as if he was unsure what to say. Kiba’s and Brittany’s accusing glares brought him out of his shocked state and he regained his composure but still remained rather pale.

“Rasha, Eltrio...get him to the village and have the healers take a look at him.” Rire said finally as he turned away from the now confused looks of Brittany and Kiba. “You have that pegasus to thank. I could care less what happens to you but he...he spoke on your behalf and for that and for certain obligations I shall help you. Come, we will take care of the Lord, you may rest at are village until he is well.”
