Chapter Seven
The Searching Idiot

Frax pushed a long brown lock out of his eyes as he moved through dense forest. For nearly three weeks he'd been searching for the owner of the voice that haunted his nights. He shoved aside a large bush that blocked his path. There was no other option but to find the woman whom had claimed his heart with just a song.

"M-m-master wait for me!" a tiny creature called from behind Frax.

He turned to look at the Giggat. Giggats were rather ghastly creatures but they made wonderful servants. Frax's Giggat had short blond hair, pale grey eyes, and was very slim. He'd been Frax's servant for as long as either of them could remember.

"Come, Yent." he called. "I must find my lady."

"But, master, you don't even know this woman you claim to have heard singing from many miles away." Yent told him.

Frax whirled on him. "Do you doubt my words?!" he demanded.

Yent recoiled. "N-n-no M-m-master." he stammered. "N-n-never."

"Good." Frax said, nodding sharply. "Now come on. I must find her."

Yent sighed to himself. There would be no talking his master out of his rediculas quest. How could he be so sure that this woman wasn't some sort of creature who was trying to lure them there so she could eat them. Yent shivered despite the midday warmth.

"Now which way was it?" Frax asked the air around him.

"You mean you don't even know where she is?!" Yent demanded.

Frax whirled on him angrily.

A low chuckle made Yent yelp in fear. Frax unsheathed his sword, whirling on the mysterious watcher. In the shadows of the towering oaks, the young man caught sight of a dark figure. Frax moved closer to it.

"Halt." a raspy voice.

"Who are you?" Frax demanded in a shaking voice.

Another chuckle from the shadows. "The man who knows where you can find you're mysterious singer." the voice said.

"Go on." Frax ordered.

"Go to the town of Dasic." the voice said. "She'll be stopping there within the next three days."

Frax whooped loudly. "Yes!" he shouted happily. "Thank you, good sir. Come Yent! To Dasic!"

As the young man and Giggat headed towards the town of Dasic, the figure moved out of the shadows. Sunlight danced off of his smoke-blue beard and a twinkle danced in his deep grey eyes.

"Soon all will be as it should be." he said. "And you will help me, you human fool."

He snapped his fingers and in a puff of smoke, he was gone.
