Chapter Twenty-One
The Frozen Hearted

The stranger smiled at her and waved his hand in the direction of Frax and Kale. Sala looked at them and then back at the old man. His beard and hair were snow white and hung well below his waist. He moved to sit beside the fire, motioning Sala to join him. The girl hesitated for a moment, then joined him.

"Who are you?" she asked.

"It's more important for me to know who you are before you know me." he said.

Sala stared at him, confused. "I'm Sala from the village of Orbian, daughter of Tavis and Gemma." she said.

The old man nodded. "I am Blizik." he said. "You should already know who I am, Sala of Orbian."

"You're the Ice Spirit." she said, jumping to her feet.

Blizik nodded. "Yes. Now please sit down child." he said. "I wish to know why you wish to reclaim the four Elements."
Sala sat back down. Her eyes wandered to her friends' bodies and she wondered what he'd done to them. When she saw Kale's chest rise and fall she knew that he'd placed a sleeping spell on them. She looked back at Blizik. He reminded her of Sathin. When he was alive, she reminded herself.

"Well, Sala of Orbian?" Blizik prompted.

"Someone has taken everything from me for the sake of power." she growled. "I have nothing left because of this evil bastard."

The old man shook his head sadly. "Vengeance isn't always best." he said.

Sala clenched her fists. "Fuck what's best!" she growled. "Doing what someone else thinks is best usually comes back and bites me in the fucking ass."

"If you cannot forget your hate then you'll have to fight me." he said.

Sala laughed. "You?" she asked. "Phfft! You're nothing!"

The old man rose to his feet and formed a sword of ice around his hand. Sala rose to her feet as well, cupping her hands so a ball of dancing flames formed in her palms. The old man lunged at her with surprising speed. Sala barely dodged, the edge of the ice sword catching her arm. Blood stained the snow crimson.
Sala screamed and sent the fireball flying at him. The old man whirled, slicing through the ball of fire. Sala stood staring at him. Blizik smiled at him and swung his sword.

"Foolish, arrogant child." he sneered. "You can't defeat me so easily."

Again she formed a ball of fire in her palms and flung it at him. Blizik spun to dodge it and when he whirled back to face her, he was attacked by a large blue wolf. Her fangs tore into the flesh of his uplifted arm. Sala tore the skin from his muscles and landed beyond him. Blizik whirled on the panting wolf.

"Bitch." he growled.

Sala became human again and spit out the hunk of flesh in her mouth. She bent down, pulling out her daggers. "You know, you're the first person I've had to use every trick I know." she said, twirling her daggers.

"I'm so touched." Blizik snarled.

"You should be.” she growled.

Blizik charged at her and Sala spun around, burring her daggers into his ribs. She grunted when her blades met bone. The Ice Spirit groaned, his face contorting in pain. Sala pulled her daggers out of him quickly and pulled her pipe from her belt. Quickly she played her tune and Blizik vanished into the orb she pulled from around Kale's neck.

"Now who's foolish?" she asked the glassy orb as she pulled out an circular earring specially made to hold a small gem.
