Chapter Twenty-Four
Intentions
Terak moved to the very edge of the pit and sat down, letting his feet dangle over the edge. Sala gulped, her arms were beginning to ache. She closed her eyes and tried to take her mind away from her aching muscles. All she had to do was answer some questions and she'd be out of this predicament.
"Tell me why you wish to recapture me." he said suddenly.
Sala opened her eyes. "What?!" she said, shocked by the simple question.
Terak scoffed. "I want you to tell me why you want to reclaim me so badly." he repeated.
"My people...are dying..." she gasped.
The sound of a wooden door being slung off of its hinges reached her ears. She heard Kale call her name and closed her eyes in relief. If anyone could help her out, it was him. Terak shot a glare at the young Draegan male.
"Stay back!" he ordered. "Stay back or I'll seal her within the depths of Ravik's brown heart."
Kale froze in mid-step. "You sorry son of a bitch!" he growled.
"You're the canine here. Not me." Terak said icily.
Kale ground his teeth but stayed where he was. Terak turned his attention back to the young woman dangling above the black emptiness. A tiny smile played at his lips. She was very lovely he'd give her that. He knew her energy was draining.
"Tell me why you wish to recapture me!" he demanded.
"I told you, you sorry fucker!" Sala cried. "My people are dying and if I don't have all four Orbs and rebind them into the Orb of Light then they will all die!"
Terak chuckled. "I guess you are telling the truth." he said. "So be it. I'll come willingly."
He lifted his hand and Sala was lifted up out of the pit. When she rested safely before him, Terak closed the distance between them. He wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close to him. Sala stiffened but didn't pull away. Terak bent his face to hers and pressed his lips to hers. When he pulled away, Sala saw that he was beginning to fade into a brown light.
The tiny light that had once been Terak floated before her for a moment then moved off to where Kale stood, holding out the fourth orb. When the light was within it, Kale slid the hook through to make her a second earring. He tossed it to her and Sala caught it deftly. For a long moment, all she could do was stare at it.
