Chapter Twenty-Eight
Like Father, Like Son

Sathin hit the ground with a dull thud. Sala hit her knees and Kale rushed to her side. Tears welled up in her eyes as she gazed her wounded grandfather. Frax formed another, larger, blade of black light and flung it at his father. The large beast let out a mighty roar as the light blade pierced the flesh over his heart and penetrated deep within him. As he slammed into the ground, a mighty tremor shook the ground around them.

"Fools!" Frax laughed. "Did you both really think that I would allow you to live and leave me with nothing for this?"

Baeriv growled lowly in his throat. "Traitorous son of a bitch." he said.

Frax held out his hand, palm open, and slowly closed it as he glared at his father. Baeriv let out a wail of anguish as his heart exploded within his chest. The great head of the beast rolled to the side and lay motionless. Off to the side, Sathin groaned. Sala looked towards him and crawled quickly to him. Kale made no move to follow. Instead, he stood glaring at Frax.

"Please forgive me, pup." he begged. "I... I didn't see... until it was too late."

Sala could only nod her forgiveness.

Sathin held up his hand and closed it slowly. When he opened it, a tiny ball of silver light sat in his palm. He moved his hand to Sala's throat and pressed the glowing ball into it. The young woman inhale and a pure note rang from her throat. A slow smile spread across her face as the note died.

"I truly am sorry." Sathin said again.

"I believe you." Sala said, kissing his forehead.

When she sat up right again, the old Wolf Mage was dead. Sala rose to her feet slowly and turned t
towards Frax. Hot tears of anger filled her eyes as she gazed at him. He'd betrayed her in the worst way possible. Sala lay her hands over the Orb of Light and closed her eyes. Tears slid from her eyes, falling down her cheeks. White light burst forth from the glass sphere and surrounded her.

Frax covered his face from the light once more and staggered backwards. Behind Sala stood an angelic man with flowing platinum hair, pale skin, and piercing silver eyes. Kale's mouth dropped open.

"Lunacika." Kale whispered. "Guardian of the Keeper."
