Fan Fiction ❯ The Lupis Project ❯ Prologue ( Prologue )
Prologue
The air was thick and heavy with the perilous smoke. The sky was a pale green from the radiation that spread throughout the night atmosphere. There was no moon, nor were there any stars hovering above the cloudless sky. Puffs of smoke everywhere, some from the explosion, and some was the radiation. A lot of the smoke was from the rubble of the falling buildings caused by the impact of the still stirring inferno, which had slammed into so many buildings, killing people instantly.
Well, whatever it was, there wasn't a single soul left in Chicago that was living. Bodies were laid on top of each other. Some were parts, such as legs, arms, torsos, if one were to cross this city, there would be some head of a former civilian lying somewhere as well. Occasionally crushed bodies from falling concrete. Quaintly, there was very little blood.
The year had been 2024.
Within that year, on that same day that Chicago was said to have been bombed, another tragedy the poor people of the habitation suffered, and now their pain was over, gone to wherever souls that have no bodies to go to. And still, they'll have to go through the reality of leaving their loved ones behind. This was the City of Tears, leaving behind nothing but piles of rubble, dust, and a young, eight-year-old as a miraculous sole survivor.
Wars had raged on all around the world, for so long it was hard to tell who the enemy was anymore. They barraged each other, whoever seemed the most suspicious would be killed, the foes would be the targets. Then there were the civilians that were still left, caught in the middle of it all. It didn't matter if any of them were killed in the bombing; they were just in the way, innocent bystanders. It didn't matter to the enemy. It didn't matter that there was still a survivor left.
A small, young girl, the last and only life left in that large city that stood living. Her hair, that should have been as black as a raven's darkened feathers, was now gray from the ashes falling from the sky; They looked like little pale white snowflakes. There were streaks of white in her hair: a sign of horrendous trauma. Her dry green eyes looked like emeralds, tears left behind. Her clothes were ripped, her skin was battered, but no matter how wounded this young girl was, she walked, alone, nothing left in this world to care about her, for everybody she ever knew and loved were all dead upon this very day.
Nothing was left in this city, nothing in this world could heal her wounds, what was there would remain there. This girl didn't survive because of a miracle, nor was there a "god" to look out for her, for the heavens were clouded that not even God would be able to notice that there was a living soul wandering below.
But this girl wasn't the last alive, there was another creature ahead, an animal. The girl knew that there was something wrong with this animal, because by now it shouldn't even be alive. Something that the two had in common. They both didn't deserve to live through such a disaster. The animal appeared as a dog, crouched over a pile of debris that was supposed to be a building, maybe a house, it was hard to tell. it's bones horridly clear through it's tattered pelt, blood draining through its sides. It turned away from the girl, and head jittering, making random whimpers.
Walking up to the animal, the girl was about to see if it was alright, but the dog turned, it's nose was missing, a piece of it's red flesh hung on the side the poor creature's foaming mouth. The eyes were a cloudy white hue and creamy, swirling in the despair which showed through it's horrified eyes. He growled at the girl, but she did not fall back, she did not flinch, not even a blink. The dog leaped at her.
It leapt towards the girl.
Just then, a man triggered the Okami glands, and a young woman woke from a long, deep, sleep.
