Ch.10: Could Things Get Worse
“Are they ever going to come out of that cave?” Yoroy asked as he sat staring at the blank rock face in contempt, Triach insisted that she brush his hair.
“Hell I should know!” she ran the comb roughly through his hair.
“OUCH! Watch what you're doing woman!”
“You don't even take care of your hair! Why do you have to have nice naturally soft hair?” she mumbled to herself as she ran her fingers and the comb over his head. “The usual braid you wear?” she asked giving a little sigh.
“Nope.” He got up as her hands left. “I'm going to cut it.”
“What? Why?” Triach asked feeling confused.
“Long hair will only get in the way as of late.” Yoroy stood up and reached for his sword. “You wanna see something cool?” He asked, smiling to himself as Triach nodded slowly wondering what he was talking about.
Yoroy leaned down, his right leg out, and his left leg bent and his body bent low to the ground, and shadow in his hand, he jumped high into the air. He whipped his sword sheath higher into the air, spinning like a pinwheel far out of eyesight. The sword flashed everywhere, the black blade switching around, leaving a trail of dark as it moved. Soon Yoroy was spinning and twirling about as he reached his peak of the jump.
He fell to the ground, landing flat on his two feet, his sword held in a simple battle stance, aimed at Triach's heart. He cut a small heart in her shirt with the tip of his sword and smiled as small strands of pure gold colored hair fell around, glistening in the sun light, giving him this magical affect. His hair was shortened, spiked a little too. Yoroy stabbed the sword into the ground and placed his hand in his pocket, and with his right hand, made a victory symbol, closing one eye and grinning.
Then his sheath landed, right in the square center of Yoroy's head with a resounding crack, like stone on stone. The sheath fell down to the side…and Yoroy fell face first, right into Triach's chest.
“God, get a room.” Wil mumbled as him and Carol paced by, Carol smacked him upside the head to be nice.
“Be nice.” She said, and stuck a finger right into the center of Wil's face.
The two moved on as Triach laid the dazed Yoroy on his back, His eyes practically rolling around in his head. “That was graceful.” She told him.
She looked away to see what the buzzing sound that suddenly started, when she only saw a cloud of sand she looked back at Yoroy, who's eyes were still trying to focus, but with a grim look on his face. He sensed danger and malicious intent heading this way. “Something's coming Triach.”
He tried to stand, only to stagger and swirl a little; he wasn't completely balanced. “Xander! Wil! Tarin! Something evil is coming!” Triach shouted as Yoroy's eyes started spinning as he got even dizzier, then fell to the ground with a soft thud.
“I can tell.” Wil shouted back, reaching for shadow, which Yoroy dropped, and looking at his hands as the black hilted sword went straight through his hand. He gave up after the third try to grab it and fisted his hands.
Xander was sitting on a rock nearby and loading bullets into his gun, Lori sitting behind him with some sort of bow and looking very worried. “Relax Lori.” Xander offered, “Together, we can beat anything.”
“I'd feel safer if master Tarin was out here…” she muttered feeling two very powerful pressure sources, one in the sand cloud, the other coming from the cave.
Xander puffed out a sigh as the cloud got closer and closer and they could see a white dot in the center, running towards them. “You sure it's here to hurt us?” aiming his gun for the white dot.
“Yes, most definitely.” Lori whispered, stringing her bow and Carol stood by Wil, in a battle ready stance.
A gunshot rang out as Xander shot at the dot. In a few seconds, it stopped where it was. “Piece of cake.” Xander said and turned his head towards Lori who's face turned pale. “What?” a bullet whizzed by his face, cutting his cheek and embedded into a rock.
Lori turned and managed to grab the bullet from the rock face. “X-xander…it's your bullet…” she held the bullet out, it was wrinkled but anyone could see the red marking on the base that Xander marked all his ammo with.
In a matter of seconds the creature came running towards them and stopped right in between Xander and Wil. It was a robot, all white with gray incasing the joints and red flashy eyes. Its feet were rubber soled, like boots, and it stood at least 6 feet tall. It held two swords and it was hunched over, its back sprouting razor steel spikes. Its shoulders stuck out like the points of the cross, and its waist and chest were really thin, but looked completely sturdy. The hips stuck out a little too as the legs bent at the knees, keeping the robot low and finally ending up down at the wide and long feet.
“TARIN?” it seemed to ask moving its mask like face in an arch to see everyone. Sizing the whole group up while seeking a target. “YOROY IS SUBDUED, PRE-ARIVIAL, TRIACH CHARTED AS APPLYING AID TO YOROY. FOUR UNKNOWN HUMANOIDS AT SCENE OF CRIME-”
“`Scene of crime?'” Wil growled and clenched his fists in memory of this robot.
“ONE POWER SOURCE, UNSEEN. BUT FELT COMING FROM CAVE LIKE STRUCTURE MATCHES TARIN'S SIGNITURE-” it went on as if noting each detail.
“This is a search and destroy model, no camouflage on it, it is mean to search and either arrest or eliminate what ever it is sent after.” Wil gave a little chuckle. “With armor tougher than a dragon's hide, and more battle and fight options than you can shake a stick at, it is the ultimate killing machine. Even the joints are tougher than sword steel. The only weakness is the computer system.” Wil informed everyone as he readied himself again.
“ARDA IS NO WHERE FOUND. NO POWER SOURCE FOUND MATCHING HERS. ALL YOU IN THE AREA, YOU ARE ALL UNDER ARREST. THROW DOWN YOUR WEAPONS AND MERCY WILL BE TAKEN ON YOU IN FEDERAL PRISON.”
“You remind me of my mom, and that gives me the strength to kill you!” Wil shouted and lunged, punching at the face and feeling something move back as he began to scratch at the chest, which only proceeded to break his claws on the tough white armor.
It grabbed Wil by the throat and seemed to look him the eye. “RESISTANCE IS FUTILE. I AM THE ULTIMATE SEARCH AND DESTROY OFFICER.” The face of the robot was completely unmarred as he looked at Wil with unshakable monotone.
“WIL!” Carol shouted as the muscled youth's face began to redden as he lost air. She jumped onto the arm and began to punch and claw at it, biting it too, feeling the metal creak under her barrage of frenzied strikes. As the robot dropped its other sword to grab Carol, Wil picked it up and sliced at the arm, which made him drop Wil, and the second slash made it drop Carol.
Picking up Carol, he jumped nearer to the group as Xander began planning on a way to take that thing down. “Wil.” Xander said and tapped him on the shoulder. “This thing needs an exhaust outlet, if I can shoot in there, or if you can slash into there, we should be able to bring it down…”
“Better yet. His sword is of the same material, and of unequal sharpness, I can hurt him with this!” he said gleefully, setting Carol down carefully.
“Um…Wil…” Xander said, pointing to the machine.
“What?” he turned around and saw that its arms were healing as tiny little metal squares moved over it. “That was as deep as I could slice…”
“My exhaust idea is still valid at this point in time.”
“I'll find you your exhaust, but you have to be ready at that point to shoot.”
“You have my word, now go and find it.”
Wil charged with his newfound blade and began slashing and hacking away, and even meeting the charging robot's sword with equal force. But soon the surprise of the attack wore off and the robot began to pound at Wil with unrivaled strength and speed. Wil couldn't keep up, his arms felt numb and his legs grew cramped and burning hot as he tried his hardest not to lose his balance, at that point, he'd be dead. “Find the exhaust?” Xander asked growing worried and began aiming the gun.
“Yeah, it has pores, that is its exhaust, its whole body.” He heard Xander swore. “Looks like with Yoroy out of commission and Tarin not being able to be reached, this might be my end.” He muttered then he heard foot steps. He parried the robot's sword and swung it off balance and sliced its leg to make it fall. He jumped back to a more defensible position and looked to see Tarin, fully dressed and battle ready, Lori bounding towards Xander as Arda loaded one bullet into her gun.
“I don't know what will happen if this hits you Tarin.” Arda warned him and locked the revolver's barrel.
“There's a simple solution. Don't miss.” He said and charged at the robot with speed that made the robot seem slow motion.
“Don't punch it Tarin! You'll sooner break your fist than break the armor!” Wil warned, but ate his own words as the clang of imploding metal came from the side of the robot's head.
“I had an epiphany back in the cave, most of the time in there was practicing. I can control rudimentary elements. This is the power of metallic hydrogen.” He said and held up cobalt colored fists.
The robot healed itself and began to speak in its monotone voice. “SYSTEM MOMENTARY FAILURE, DOING SYSTEM'S CHECK. BASIC FUNCTIONS ONLINE. ADVANCED BATTLE TACTICS, AT THE READY. MISSION PARAMETERS, ANNIHILATE TARIN BEFORE INTERCOURSE IS ACHIEVED, BRING BACK MISS ARDA IF POSSIBLE. IF CONSUMATION HAS BEEN ACHIEVED, ARDA'S DESTRUCTION IS A MUST.”
“You…what…” Tarin began to breath out and charged at the robot again, which ducked easily and punched Tarin in the gut. Wil began running in to help. “No Wil! Don't you dare interfere with my fight.” He coughed a little and turned back to the robot. “Your time is up tin for brains. I promise you that.” Excalibur appeared and he charged with the superbly fine blade and slashed down onto the robot's shoulder, digging deep.
