Chapter 1: 14 Years Later
"I’m late to see Henry!" Sydney said to herself, as she ran to Henry’s house.
Sydney, fourteen years old, was a tall, slim, young lady. She had brown hair with natural red highlights and her eyes were a weird color silver. Also, she has a strange star-shaped scar on her forehead. She was the most kind person in her town, but she has a very bad habit of losing her temper. She was suppose to meet her best friend in the whole wide world, Henry to explore the woods right next to the town. Her town was a quaint town, were the White Sorceress once lived when she was alive. Now, her town worshipped the White Sorceress and the other six elements that had stood on her side and perished one hundred years ago.
"Finally you decided to join me," Henry said. "You should have told me you were going to be late." Henry was also fourteen, but six months older than Sydney. He was tall and slim with a little muscle. He had red hair eyes and dirty blonde hair. Also, has a weird fire-shaped scar on his shoulder. He was the funny one in the town, but also the serious one when the time came.
"Sorry! My mom was lecturing me about not doing my chores." Sydney explained to him. "Trust me I would have been here sooner, but you know how my mom is with not doing what I’m told to do."
"Alright, let’s go before it gets dark and your mother comes looking for her baby!" Henry yelled as he ran toward the forest with his sword in hand.
"That’s not nice!" she screamed, even though he was right about her mother, as she picked up her staff and ran after him. She finally found him standing at entrance of the forest.
He had a smirk on his face when she caught up with him.
"Come on, let’s look for a demon to cut up with my brand new sword." Henry said as they entered the forest. As soon as Henry said those words, a fierce weasel demon appeared, looking for his dinner.
"Look what’s on the menu," the weasel said in his deep voice, "a tasty boy and a pretty girl for desert!"
"You are not eating me you big rat!" Sydney screamed as she went to attack him with her staff. "Henry, let me take care of him!"
"But……." Henry started, but interrupted by the demon.
"Like that puny, little staff is going to do any harm to me, little girl!" the weasel demon exclaimed, as he went in for an attack.
"I’ll show you!!!" she yelled at the top of her lungs, as she attacked him on the head. When she attacked, she pushed the demon back a couple of feet.
"Now you did it!" the weasel yelled, "you gave me a enormous headache." He rubbed his head. "Now your going to get it!" as he raised his claws and let out another attack.
"Watch out, Sydney!!!!" Henry screamed from the background, as he watched his best friend get a direct hit.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!" she screamed as she got hit with the attack. As the smoke cleared, Sydney was still standing!
"What in the world?" both Henry and Sydney said. ‘How did I survive that direct attack?’ thought Sydney. ‘She survived, that means it’s time for her to know who she is,’ Henry thought.
"What!?" screamed the weasel. "How did you survive that attack?! You should have died! What are you, little girl?"
"I don’t know!" Sydney screamed. "But I do know one thing, you’re going down!" With that said she went for another attack. When she hit the weasel demon this time, a white light shot out of staff, and the star on her forehead glowed; then the demon was gone. On the sidelines, Henry stared at Sydney with astonishment.
‘It’s about time for me tell her the truth,’ Henry thought. He started toward Sydney, but when he got closer she started to fall toward the ground. He ran toward her, and caught her just before she hit the solid ground. ‘She fainted, but why?’ he thought. So he gathered her up with her staff in hand and started back to the town. ‘She’s going to love it when she finds out who she really is,’ Henry’s last thought has he neared her hut. He took a deep breath and he entered her hut. As he entered Sydney’s hut, he noticed that her mother was cooking dinner. ‘Well….it’s now or never,’ he thought as she turned around to see her visitor.
"Hello, Henry," Sydney’s mother said, "what brings yo…." She gasped when she saw what he was carrying. "What happened to my baby, Henry?! I want an explanation right this instant!” she yelled.
"Shhhhh…" he whispered. "I will tell you everything in due time," he said, "but right now there is something more important to tell you."
"What is it?" she asked, as she stared at him with glossy eyes. "What’s wrong with my baby girl, Henry?"
"Her powers have awakened," he said in a low voice. She stared at him with a scared look in her eyes.
"That means….." she choked out.
"Yes, it’s time to tell her who she is and what she needs to be done, before it’s too late." Henry said, as he stared at his best friend. "She also needs to know who I am," he whispered.
"You mean…." she started, but could not get out into words.
"Yeah,…." Henry started, "I need to tell her what she is, and that I’m the next Fire Element, her protector."
