Chapter 2: Second Journal Entry, and the Continued Search for a Plot

I don't know how long I stayed in that town after I was found. Days and nights
seem to blur together enough that it doesn't really matter what time it is.
All I know is that I stayed there long enough, after my wound healed, to get
supplies in exchange for a few rabbit skins. Horse was quite tired after lugging
the food, ammo, and fuel...yes, fuel...back to my camp. There was evidence of
Marauder activity in the camp's vicinity, so I stayed on guard until I reached my
tent.
I'll have to stay nearby to guard my small plot of land. Without the water in the
oasis, I'd have no reason to stick around.
That's all for now.
No One

A couple of weeks earlier...
Sharon slowly regained consciousness, feeling a cold sensation on her forehead.
"I see you're awake.", said a soft voice off to her right. She realized that she was
laying on someone's bed.
She looked in the direction of the voice and saw a young woman sitting there,
next to a basin full of cold water.
"Were you the one who found me?", Sharon asked when she could find her
voice.
The woman nodded.
"Yes. Your horse helped me bring you to this town. What were you doing out
in the Wastelands by yourself?"
"I was fighting Marauders after they appeared while I was searching the bodies
of some of their friends for useful items, like ammunition for my gun. They
claimed to be after fuel and the water from the oasis that I live next to, but,
I suspect that they recognized the guys whom I had previously fought.", Sharon
replied. "They didn't realize that challenging me is very bad for their health.
Unfortunately, this time, it proved to be bad for my health as well."
As the ex-Bronze spoke, the woman looked a bit shocked at how casually the
former policewoman spoke about death.
~She probably speaks about it like that because she has most likely seen a lot
of death. She looks like a Main Force Patrol officer from her clothing.~, the
woman thought as she watched Sharon speak in the flat monotone that she had
started using since her sister's family was slaughtered by the type of people she
liked to call "scum".
The woman was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't notice when Sharon had
stopped speaking and had fallen asleep. She smiled slightly as she carefully
removed the cloth she had placed on Sharon's forehead and wet it with the water
in the basin, and placed it back on the former policewoman's forehead.
~From the looks of you, you've had it rough. I don't know for how long you were
struggling to survive, but it's time for you to rest.~
To be continued...
***************************************************** **************
A/N: This chapter sounds a bit cheerier than the two previous chapters in this
story. That can be chalked up to me wanting to continue this story, but not
feeling quite as depressed as I was when I wrote the other two chapters.
Expect the mysterious unnamed woman to show up again from time to time. I
think I suddenly have plans for her, but I'm not sure, yet.
Comments welcome, flames will be saved up to light the grill for some burgers
on July 4th. Since it's summer, I no longer need them to warm up my comp room.
Until next chapter...ja ne!
