Chapter 3: Confrontations
The Titans awoke the next morning and packed their bags. They headed out to the T-Jet and were soon on their way. It was almost nine o'clock when they reached the forboding island. They landed and exited the jet. They all looked around and saw people everywhere. Some looked less human then others.
Meanwhile back in Jump City. Shadow and his friends were preparing to leave. Shadow was waiting for the others to finish packing their bags when there was a knock on the door. He opened it and nearly fainted at what he saw. Standing before him was the women he'd been thinking about for the past three days.
“Darkfire,” Shadow said.
Darkfire smiled, “How's it going cutey?”
“What are you doing here? I thought you were in prison?”
“They let me out for good behavior. Who're your new friends?”
“I'll explain when we get to Hangman Island.”
“Where?”
“You'll see.”
With everyone ready to leave Peace began casting her teleportation spell. When they opened their eyes they found themselves on Hangman Island sorrounded by the same people.
“Where are we?” Darkfire asked.
Shadow pulled Darkfire closer, “Stay close. We're at a demonic tournament. A lot of the guys here could tear us apart.”
Slade stepped off his jet with Terra following closely behind. Ternion was unloaded from the back and the three walked through the crowd toward the large hotel. He stopped when he saw several familiar faces.
Robin suddenly stopped walking when he spotted a familiar face in the crowd. The orange and black mask with only one eyehole that hid the face of his greatest nemisis, Slade.
“Slade!” Robin shouted rushing off.
He fell to the ground mere feet from Slade. Robin looked up to see Crow holding his cape.
“Save it for the tournament pal,” Crow said, “Good to see you here Slade.”
Slade and his compaions left. Robin jumped up and reeled on Crow swinging his bo staff. Crow simply lifted his arm and blocked.
“Why did you stop me,” Robin roared.
“The preliminaries are tomorrow. We'll go up and pick out our rooms and get some sleep. Pick out your team members because we're all fighting tomorrow,” Crow turned and walked off pulling his hood over his head.
The Titans all went to the same room and decided on their teams.
“Okay so it's Me, Starfire, and Robin on one team and You, Beast Boy, and Crow on the other. Not mention Shadow and whoever he's bringing with him,” Cyborg said.
“Looks like it,” Raven said, “Any objections?”
“None here,” Beast boy smiled.
Starfire smiled, “I have no objections.”
In the room they'd picked out Shadow, Genisis and Enoch were having some problems.
“What do you mean we're not fighting!” Cupid shouted.
Genisis sighed, “I don't want you to get hurt.”
“We can take care of ourselves,” Peace said looking at Enoch,
“You have no idea what you'll be up against,” Shadow said walking on from the balcony, “Even we'll have a hard time as the tournament drags on. Now stop whining and go to sleep. The tournament preliminaries are tomorrow and we'll be fighting reguardless of our condition.”
With that said everyone said good night and went to sleep. Crow sat on the railing of the balcony when he heard the door open. A hand was placed on his shoulder.
“Hey. You okay?” Raven asked.
Crow smiled, “Yeah. Just hard for me to sit here when I'm so close to my chance to get home.”
“I know. But it won't be very long. Tomorrow you'll be too tied up in fighting to worry about it.”
“I hope so. Otherwise I may lose more then my chance to get home.”
That night everyone slept uneasily knowing what tomorrow would bring. When the morning came everyone awoke and headed for the arena. There a girl with cat ears, whiskers, and a tail stood in the middle of a large raised platform.
“Hello participants and welcome to the Tournament of Shadows!” she shouted into the microphone, “Now I have been informed that there is an excessive number of combatants and therefore we have to cut out many of you. Because of that we will have prelimanary matches. So with out further ado let us see who will be fighting first!”
Everyone looked up at the large screen as two names appeared.
Six figures appeared in the arena. The two teams fought and the winners left. This continued until only 16 teams were left standing.
“Much better. Tomorrow we'll have the first fight of the match. Tonight you'll receive the fighting scehdule after a random drawing to determine fight order. See you then,” she said with a smile.
Everyone went back to their rooms to decide what to do.
“Well now what?” Beast boy asked.
Crow walked off, “I'll be back tonight.”
Crow had no idea that he was being watched. A figure dressed in a long red coat and a red broad brimmed hat watched as Crow walked off. Shadow was on his way back to his room when a scent came to his nose. He kept walking but stayed aware of the scent. The figure watching him from the railing, that sorounded the floors above the first, was dressed in a long black coat.
Both figures disappeared. They returned to their hotel room and sat in chairs facing a third and fourth figure.
“So what do you two think of them?” The figure in the blue coat asked.
