Entry - We made an amazing discovery. We were searching for traces of plant life, but we found something much different. A cube half buried in the thick, red-orange sands of this planet. Perfect measurements of three feet. It seems to be hollow, judging by the noise that came from inside when it was picked up. We brought it back to our base for further examination, immediately. There are things inside it, many, from the sound of it. But the strangest thing about this cube is that it glows.

Entry - The cube has become somewhat of a hindrance on our expedition, but we disagree with NASA in thinking it isn't worth our time. Something about the Cube just awes me. And everyone else. It holds great things. I can practically feel it in my bones. However, we must get back on track, and quickly. Tomorrow though, we will attempt to open the cube, after making an unsuccessful attempt to determine its origin and composition earlier today.

Entry - We are readying to leave. The expedition proved valuable; Not only did we find The Cube, but we found a basin that is probably an empty lake bed. I requested permission to bring the cube back to Earth. Permission was denied me. But it is such an amazing discovery. I don't want to leave it behind...

Entry - We are on our way home. The Cube is on board. How it got here, even I do not know. The others all accuse me of sneaking it on, but we cannot go back, and there is no way to safely get it off the ship. The doctor performed physical exams on all of us on board, to make sure we were free of viruses from the Cube(it was the first time any of us had been around anything without our protective suits.), and of course we were, as far as he could tell. The others want to alert NASA of the situation. That mustn't happen...

Entry - I am supposed to be in my hibernation chamber now, but something has come up. The crew is dead. How they did, or how I woke up from my hibernation is a mystery to me. Was. It was a mystery. The crystals did it. I am most certain they came from the cube. There are hundreds of them. At Least. They have spared me the wrath they've unleashed on my friends. Their source of power is unbeknownst to me, but it is far too great for any human to comprehend! As I watch, they levitate, spinning in a large circle. Their glow seems to be getting greater as time goes on. As we near Earth. This may very well be my last entry, and I pray to God that someone will find away to break the spell that the crystals had put on me, and will put on more humans for sure. Break the spell of the crystals. May God have mercy on my soul.

Entry - I am worried about my brother, Kano. News reports say there has been no communication between the shuttle and NASA for over a week now, despite numerous attempts. But satellites tell us that the shuttle is still on its way to Earth, so I pray it's just a problem with communication. He'd planned to take Keitaro back to Japan, too. Poor Keitaro. I'm watching over him now, but I know he misses his father greatly, even though he's too young to understand what's happening. The shuttle is expected to land somewhere in the Atlantic, in two days. I am getting anxious out of my mind.

The day the shuttle landed, a storm to rival Hurricane Andrew brewed over the Atlantic, just an hour before the landing. Three rescue boats were sunk, in attempt to save the shuttle crew. None of the crew were ever seen again. The whole thing drove Kai to insanity, or so people would say.

He disappeared one night, leaving young Keitaro all alone. A neighbor lady had seen him leave his small home on the coast of Georgia, and taken care of Keitaro, luckily. Many that that would be the last they'd ever see of Kai. There was no trace of him, anywhere. Not that it mattered. Exactly forty-eight hours after his disappearance, he was at his neighbor's door, asking if she'd seen Keitaro.

All seemed to return to normal for Kai, despite the fact that he remembered nothing of where he went during his two-day leave of absence. He'd in fact not even known he left, until his neighbor explained things to him. It never really registered in his mind as a possibility that he'd really left his house for two days, and not remembering a second of it. Maybe gotten drunk and passed out. But leaving his house? In his car? As a scientist, Kai found that explanation unlikely, if not impossible.

On his first day back at work, in his lab, Kai found on his desk, several little differently shaped crystals. There were exactly 119 of them. Never having seen anything like them, he wanted to study them. It was that very same afternoon that there were monster sightings across the coasts of the Atlantic. Africa was seized by harpies, Florida was attacked by robots, Cuba was raided by serpents. But it got worse. New York City was flooded. Completely flooded. Washington DC was frozen. Everything was coated in up to a foot of ice. The next day, the Eiffel tower was knocked down by giant hamsters. The destruction didn't end. There were more survivors than one would think, but entire cities lay in ruins.

That same day, the crystals in the lab all changed into large, vicious monsters that ruthlessly ripped apart the lab, and a few of them even fought amongst each other. Kai was the only sole survivor at the lab, and when he got out of the hospital, he found in his pocket one last crystal...

Almost an entire millennium later, and the population of humans on Earth has been reduced to around one third or what it was 1000 years ago. Thanks in large part to the monsters. The monsters come from the crystals, but the origin of the crystals is still unknown to mankind. Though there are no popular battle leagues, there are rules that the crystals seem to have themselves. But now, people have also dared to tame the monsters. The first was, coincidentally, the third generation grandson of Kano Hirotaku. They became known as the Crystal Warriors. There were a few that were actually paid to keep Crystal monsters out of cities. Most Crystal Warriors roamed the land, looking to battle other warriors, and bet their crystals, to improve their collection. Few had motives other than fun and something to do.

Almost all with motives had a fight to pick with the Crystal Tyrant, as he was called. The Crystal Tyrant had the largest collection of crystals anyone had ever had, over seventy. He wanted Crystals and he wanted them badly. No one knew why.
