Ian slowly walked through the door with Katira. His eyes grew to the size of dinner plates. The village was nearly in ruin. Houses had their doors broken down, and walls were in splinters. Bloody paw prints were everywhere. It appeared that the village had been attacked. It was hard for Ian to believe that just outside, there were beautiful butterflies and colorful flowers. But inside them, chaos and destruction reigned supreme. Had the guards been protecting an empty town?
Katira walked off to investigate on her own, or perhaps to hunt. A glittering light caught the corner of Ian's eye as he walked through the empty street of the Village of Shinnale. In a vendor's cart lay a stone. It shone with a brilliant radiance all its own. As Ian walked toward it, the light became brighter. Ian instantly knew that it was a stone that he was looking for. Ian reached for the stone and grabbed it. He held it in front of himself. It slowly disintegrated into his hand as its raw power seeped into his body.
Without warning, a girl ran straight into him. Ian fell to the ground. She apologized and gave him her name as he got up and brushed himself off.
“So your name is Fayt. Do you know what happened to all the villagers?” Ian inquired.
“They were devoured, just last night, by the savage wolves and werewolves that are led by the white wolf of legend. They reside near the lake clearing inside the forest. I am one of the very few people that escaped into the mountains before the wolves could tear me apart.” She answered. “If you come with me, I will take you to the place that we have been staying. It is much safer in our cave.”
Ian agreed to come, and followed her through the forest. “By the way, Ian, have you found the stone that is called `life'?”
“Yes,” he told her. “I found it right before you ran into me. Why do you want to know?” Ian began to feel suspicious.
“I lost someone dear to me, and I heard that that stone could bring him back to me.” Fayt replied simply. They began to walk again. After a long walk, they finally came to the cave where Fayt and the other people were staying. Ian walked ahead of Fayt, exploring the outermost chambers of the cave.
Fayt abruptly grabbed his wrists and tightly tied them with a piece of rope. Then his feet were pulled out from under him and bound tightly together. “Ian, I am a werewolf. I was the one that ordered the attack on the village. And on the next full moon, you will be used as a sacrifice for the one I mentioned earlier. You will not speak a single word until the full moon, and this will make sure of it.” Fayt said with a wicked smile.
She poured a thick brown liquid down his throat. It tasted like rotten fruit. Fayt left the cave. For about a month, Ian was fed raw meat by a wolf twice a week. And all too soon, the day of the ceremony arrived.
