Once my search was finished I started the lab’s self-destruct sequence.

Many thought that it was an earthquake. The police reported it as an arson fire at the old abandoned fireworks factory. Only God and I knew the truth. Next, I went about attempting to make a plan to find Melissa. It turned out that the doctor was not only rich, but filthy stinking rich. He had built up a fortune that would last from now until forever. My guess it was to support him once he achieved the immortality that he had so desperately ached to achieve. Still, this money came in handy. With it I bought a buss ticket two towns away from the one near Melissa’s prison. I did this to keep from attracting attention to myself I did not want them doing to me whatever they are doing to Melissa.

I stayed in my armored state for nearly two weeks. They had kept Melissa locked up in there for a month and I doubted that she was even alive since she still lacked the final injection; I was also fairly sure that whoever took her had no idea of the procedure itself or the technology behind it. The entire time I searched for a way in. There was no fence or gate guarding the perimeter, but who needs one for a house you could not get in or out of. On the day that I was going to give up and leave, I spotted an open window. What luck! All I had to do was sneak in through that window and find where they were holding Melissa. I never had a chance to even get that far.

Out of nowhere there were screams and the sounds of mass hysteria and terror. Out from the window jumped Melissa, or at least it looked like her. She looked as though she had transformed, bur her armor had not utilized itself. Was this a sign of her deterioration? Or had she simply been able to do something that I could not. Either way, she was out. All she had to do now was run into the woods. She was headed in my direction. She was less than twelve feet away

when it happened. Sparks flew from her from her wrist and rained down upon her as she was flung backwards and her lifeless body hit the ground. When she did not get up I just assumed she was dead, so I went home.

When I got back Mr. Myers called me. There was some business in New York. It turns out that a majority of the doctor’s money had come from the stock market. In fact, he owned an apartment on the top floor of a high rise in nearly every major business city. This took so long to find out because it was kept on the secret side under several different assumed names. I decided to sell the old

house and move into the New York high rise. Before the sale I cleaned

everything out of the building and sealed of the underground tunnel. My only hope was that whoever bought it would not go looking around too much. Someone may get suspicious about a run down tunnel that leads to a room full of rubble.

The New York apartment was almost as big as his bank account. It turned out that he kept a lab there too. It would come in handy in trying to reverse what the doctor did to me. This place could have been a house within itself. I had plenty of boxes to unload, store, and a few things to burn. The first box that I opened was mostly junk except for the injection and research papers that I had picked up. I considered throwing the last injection away. There was no reason for me to keep it. Just as I lifted it out of the box to throw it away a single slip of paper fell from my hand. I picked it up and began to stare at it. It was Melissa’s worn out ID card.
