GotenDooke, Town of Mystery

`Chapter One - The Town`

The gentle rays of the sun set away the once creeping darkness. The young fox young and turned upon her side. Amber eyes reluctantly opening to meet the sights of the streets. Yawning she stretched out, shaking the dust from her puffed-up tail. Looking down once again to her still sleeping companion. Black dipped paws began to shake his immobile form, "Twister…Twister! Wake up!"

Opening the eyes of blue and orange he sighed, seeing the girl shaking him from his realm of dream. "... Wake me later." He replied drowsily and curled back up in a tight ball. Sighing now with contentment.

"Twist, you best wake up now, or you'll get stepped on. Stupid! Do you wanna get killed?! You know how busy the streets are at this time." She lectured, he folded back his ears to her speech and she scowled, noticing. She then decided to occupy herself in shaking the dust from her once bright yellow peddlers' dress. "Fine, don't blame me when you're on the back of a Dragon Horse's hoof." She snarled, raising her pointed muzzle high and crossing her arms over her chest.

Twister rolled upon his back, glaring up at her with sleepy eyes; "…but…I'm tired."

"Sleep." She commanded and began to walk off.

"Eh! No, wait, Nimca!" He yelped, leaping to his hind paws and chasing after the arrogant girl.

"That's better." She spat, glaring over at him with her piercing gaze.

"…What're we doing today anyway, that causes so much hurry?" He asked, shaking his onyx coat and clothes to rid of the ever-present dust. 'I hate sleeping on the streets.' He thought angrily as he whipped his flame-tipped tail about.

"Remember, we're going exploring. They added a new park, and Pacu, Mistina and Tharis, wanted everyone to be together when we saw it." She explained, looking ahead and fixing her ebon braid.

"…Oh, why'd they add it?" He yawned.

"…I don't know, that's the big deal. It kinda just appeared one day. So, we were going to check it out. Now enough questions!" She growled and kept quick pace, causing her friend to speed up his own.

"Are we there yet?" He asked annoyingly, barely keeping stride with the vixen.

"Twister…" She snarled, making him snap to attention once more. "But yes, we are."

She stepped up, and began to knock upon the rotten wood door of a run-down cabin. Through a knothole an icy eye stared back at her. She smiled brightly, to Twister's notice and stepped aside, allowing the door to swing open. "Hey you two." Came the wolf's scratchy voice.

"Hello, Pacu." She beamed, causing the mix-breed to roll his eyes noticeably.

He shook out his pale snow fur, and looked the two over, "Haven't found the rest yet?"

"We came to you first because miss I lo-" A paw quickly clapped over his muzzle causing him to start and her to look apologetically over at… Pacu.

"Never mind that, lets get the others." She said quickly, blushing a deep crimson, seen easily on her pale orange muzzle.

He chuckled softly, "Let's."

The trio began a swift pace through alleys and turns, finally meeting another gaze of a run-down house. It seemed only the elder boys were able to buy a home, no matter how rugged it seemed. Nimca stepped forth once more and banged upon the rotten oak door. "Tharis! Tharis…?" Still no reply and her face turned to confusion.

"You don't think they left do ya'?" The mix asked, tilting his head to the side, staring fixedly upon the door.

"…I don't think so…" The vixen said, taken aback slightly until a gentle voice was carried upon the wind.

"Hey you guys!" Coming up to them was a medium sized bunny were and a coyote.

"Mistina, Tharis." Pacu said, nodding a greeting.

"Hullo!" The lupine said cheerily and jogged over to the group. Taming her indigo gown as the wind picked up, she stopped in front of Nimca.

"We're still up for exploring right?" The coyote stepped towards his friends, tattered ears swiveling forward. Like any coyote, he was gruff in appearance but deep down he was kinder than any fairy. His fur was a deep chestnut brown. Draped around his lithe figure was a forest green cloak, onyx head fur chin length. The thing standing out to them all was his illuminating emerald eyes.

"You bet we are!" The bunny said hopping up a ways with her response. Soon she landed gracefully upon the cobblestones and looked behind. An ear flopping over, placid blue eyes mixed with uncertainty. "…Right, Nimca?"

Nimca smile, and nodded to her lupine friend, "Yup."

"Yeah, told ya!" She giggled, holding her head high.

All three of the males looked to eachother, "…Told us what?" Tharis shrugged Pacu's question away. Twister seeming to caught up in a daydream, or he was sleeping on his paws… To notice.

Averting his eyes fixed on something in his cloak pocket he drained out the other's voices. "Well then, let's go!" The two girls said in unison, locking arms and stomping off with a smile upon their muzzles.

"Hey look!" He finally stated, yanking out a weird looking thing. It had a jewel the color of his cloak attached to a silver chain.

"What is it?" The mix asked, blinking away sleep, if possible and focussing on the shimmering object.

"It's a forest amulet." About to explain more when a comment from the arctic wolf broke his thoughts.

"Still trying to be a magician, eh…?" He said, setting his arms behind his head.

The coyote shot him an angered glance; "It's 'Sorcerer, and yes I wish to become the greatest ever. And then people far and wide will come to seek requests of me, just like the spirit in the high mountains."

"That's all great, but it's hard to picture you as a sorcerer, Tharis." He spat, matching his glare.

"Maybe so, but when I become one you're the first I'm putting a curse on." He smirked at the taller male, but didn't back down one bit.

He growled deeply, in a flash grabbing the front of the smaller dog's cloak. "What was that?!" He snarled, nose to nose with him.

"…Nothing." He kept a smirk however, and therefore was not let go just yet.

"…Yeah, sure." He mumbled, keeping a locked glare.

"Fight, fight, fight." Twister chanted, grinning stupidly and looking on.

"No use, he's just a stupid useless - " He was cut off by a feminine voice.

"Pipe down you two!" Nimca said angrily, looking behind herself.

"Alright." The mix responded for all of them, happily jogging to meet the females.

Pacu snorted off his growl and he too went to see them. Tharis was left to pick himself up, sighing as part of his cloak front was ripped. He slowly walked back over to the group. Growing into the heart of the marketplace, it ensnared the young lupine. "Can we stop? Please?" She asked her best friend, hopping up and down.

"But… I really wanted to get to the park before nightfall…" She sighed, looking to her bare hind paws.

"Aw, C'mon it's just a little stop." The mix added, noticing how big and watery Mistina's eyes were getting.

"…And it is only noon." Tharis added, lifting an index finger to his point.

"See! See, most everyone will stop." She said hope lifting her deep blue eyes.

"Well, I guess… But, we don't have much money to spend." She said, a bit reluctant to stop.

"I have saved some coins though, so it alright!" She said, still hopping upon her heavy hind paws. She opened her forepaw to reveal the glimmering ten gold coins, and Nimca numbly nodded.

"So have I." Pacu added, holding out his own paw, showing twenty-five coins.

"Wow… Lotsa pretty coins." Twister said, looking longingly at their handfuls. He dug into his own pocket, only to reveal a single coin. "…I'll get some food." He mumbled, following his stomach, as always, and leaving before the group could protest.

"I have saved as well." Tharis said, holding out a well leather pouch. Inside, fifty golden coins.

"Jeez, how did you get so many?" The wolven asked, raising a brow to his lot. Seeing this, he quickly pocketed his money.

"I work, unlike some people I know." He said, having this intended to the one ahead of him.

"…Good for you." He snorted, growling softly.

Noticing how a fight could come again, Mistina decided to break the silence, "…Come on, Nimca! I wanna go buy some stuff…Necklaces, and rings, and dresses…" And, dragged along was Nimca leaving the two alone, good or bad.

The two girls didn't go too far, heading to a nearby market place. Both backed up slightly to the sight before them. A scraggly old lioness was sitting at the stall. Cloaked in dark blood, angry golden optics peering back at them form the darkness of the hood. "I don't serve worthless children. I should retell such a thing… Worthless orphans." She cackled to herself, causing the young bunny to whimper and the vixen to grow angry.

Before Nimca could lash her tongue, Pacu had taken stride to them. His pointed auds never missing what was around him. "Watch your tongue, hag, we have money to spend here!" He was indeed an orphan, but being sixteen now the title didn't affect him as much.

"I am an adult, and your elder, Wolf. You watch your own forked tongue." She hissed, narrowing her eyes to meet the cold blue one's of the wolven child. "But, if you have business, state it now!"

Mistina sniffled, and pointed to an ice necklace. Chain soft silver, the pendent that of a dragon. "I want that one, p-please." She mumbled, not meeting the gaze of the lioness.

"It be five coins." She spat, in her usual uncaring tone and shot out her ragged paw.

"Thank you." She said as well, giving her the coins and clasping the necklace tightly around her neck. Pocketing the remaining coins and smiled over at Nimca and Tharis.

"Looks nice on you, Mistina." He nodded respectfully, a smile crossing his lips.

"Oh please…" He groaned, dropping down the cloak hood to shield the coyote's gaze and face.

"Hey!" He snarled, trying to get the hood up once more.

Pacu glanced to Mistina's saddened expression and sighed, "I meant 'oh please' to Tharis. It looks fine."

"Alright then." She smiled, nodding to him and turning once more to the other female.

"Miss, you have any weapons under there?" He asked, glancing back over to the elder lioness.

"What you want?" She asked, growling slightly, as she hovered over the weapon bin.

"Sword and two daggers." He stated simply and she tossed over three items. He nodded and attached them to his belt.

"Twenty coins." She ordered, opening her paw once again.

He handed her the coins, pocketing the rest, "Hag."

"Brat." She snarled, sitting back upon her stool and looking to him angrily.

"Why the weapons?" The fox asked.

"We're heading out so, just to be safe." He explained and began a stride to Twister who was sitting happily upon a bench.

"Where'd you get all that?" Tharis asked, eyeing the many assortments of apples and oranges.

"We're in a market place." He mumbled, tossing aside the third core.

"But you only had a coin…" He stated, bewildered.

He quirked a brow, "Never stopped me before." Sighing he gave up upon the mix.

"What's wrong?" Mistina blinked, looking to the fox.

"…Nothing." She mumbled, crossing her arms and keeping a glare as she saw the wolf walk off.

"Why don't we go to the park…?" She asked, tilting her head.

"…They take so long to do one thing." She sighed, looking to her friend. "Let's just go shop hopping who cares about those dumb guys."

She nodded, giggling, "…Mmkay!"

~

"Any of you actually wanna go to this park?" Pacu asked, looking to his companions.

"Eh, not really." Twister said, munching on his fifth apple.

"Me either, if truth be told." He stated quietly, looking up at the wolf.

"I guess we've been apart lately though, and the girl's think it's a good way to get together again." He yawned, setting his arms behind his head. He glanced over his shoulder at the retreating duo. "But I don't think we'll be heading off anytime soon."

"…I wonder what this amulet does." He mumbled to himself watching the thing twirl in his grasp. It did have a distinct glow in the sunlight.

"Whatever that glowy thingy does I sure hope it does some good magic." Twister said simply, the two looking to him but shrugging it off.

"I do as well, Twister. Only the greatest wizards and sorcerers stumble upon these things though." About to add in a rude comment his muzzle clamped shut as he noticed a new one behind the ratty coyote.

"Doncha mean witches and sorceresses as well?" Came the soft giggly voice. Twister and Tharis turned to see the young coyote as well. However, she didn't look like one at all. Her fur was a pale white, her hair a ghostly lilac and her eyes a gentle silver. A deep shaded violet cloak was draped around her form. Finally, perched up top her muzzle was rounded glasses, witch magnified the warm depths of her eyes. "I am Tania, the soon to be great sorceress of GotenDooke."

He blinked, "Hello, Miss Tania, I am Tharis the soon to be great sorcerer of GotenDooke." He then bowed his head politely.

"Oh please." Pacu said again, turning away from them. Twister stared, then idly began to claw the sand.

"Nice to meet you, and who might your companions be?" She asked, setting a light curtsy.

"That, upon the ground with all the food is, Twister." He smiled, looking to Twister. Then merely shot a gaze to the back of the wolf's head. "And that's Pacu."

Pacu glanced over his shoulder and nodded a greeting. Twister looked up, smiled, then went back to what he was doing. "It is nice to meet you both."

Tharis, being quite excited in finding another magic lover he quickly began to ask, "Lady Tania, do you know of any spells?"

"A bit, not much. A light power spell and small healing spell." She said, smiling to him.

"Oh?" He asked, quite interested.

She giggled softly to his pleading green eyes, "Would you like to see?"

"Yes, of course." He almost shouted and she nodded to him.

"Alright, look over at that rock then." She pointed and the three looked over, all interested in seeing what she could do. She set her paws side by side, turning a dull gold but soon growing brighter. An orb emitted from her hands, aimed to the small boulder and soon… It exploded.

Tharis clapped, "Great!"

Before she could respond to his praise angry cries filled the air. She cursed herself for trying magic in a public area. Soon enough the crowd was chanting, "Witch!"

"I'm sorry!" She whined, shaking her head. "I must go!" She shouted as she ran off, away from the quickly approaching mob.

"No wait!" Tharis yelled, but she was out of range. He sighed inwardly and began quick run to her, as the group following her grew larger.

"Wait for us!" As Twister and Pacu ran after the duo. On the way, the mix grabbed the paw of the vixen.

"What's wrong?" She yelped, getting dragged along by her companion.

"No time, Nimca!" He shouted behind. She looked over and shrieked seeing the angry weres of the town chasing after them. She then quickened her pace, holding on desperately to his paw.

"I'm not made for running!" Mistina cried form behind, her hops slowing and she was inching closer to the villagers.

"They travel with the witch! Get them as well!" They shouted amongst themselves.

Pacu lifted the bunny over his shoulder, his pace not slowing a bit, "C'mon Mist."

"You shouldn't have followed me, you'll all be caught now." Tania yelled at the closet one to her, Tharis.

He huffed, also he couldn't run too well, "T-That's…Alright."

Tania smiled, though he couldn't see, "Thanks."

"We're not going to be able to shake 'em." He snarled, glaring behind to the mob.

"He's right." Nimca whimpered slightly.

"Then what do we do?!" Mistina whined, looking behind from Pacu's shoulder.

"We'll think of something…" He mumbled, trying to trap a thought as well.

"Yeah, like RUN!" Twister yelped, and tried to quicken pace but only managed to fall further behind.

The gnarled trees were getting closer, and soon the bunch was trapped. Between thick foliage and a mob of weres. The female coyote stepped forward, "Stop! Please, they did nothing; it was my foolishness that led them into this. Leave them alone, take me!"

The large tiger stepped forth, the leader of the mob, "…That one dresses an a cloak as well! Only witches and wizards dress in those!"

Tharis then, nobly stepped forth to take a side to her, "…You are right, Sir, I am one as well. Take us, and leave the others alone."

"Well, if you take Tharis you take us all." Twister stated, he may not have been the brightest of the lot but his heart was pure to friendship.

"Yeah!" Mistina yelled from her shoulder perch.

"We will all go, together." Nimca stated bravely to the feline.

"So be it." He growled lowly. "Get them!" He snarled, a heavy paw lashing forth as the group of weres began to attack the young ones.

"We did it!" A cheetah hissed.

"We have gotten the doom bringers!" The elder owl proclaimed, flying above the group.

"Yes! And if old Bertha say so, we say so! Owls always be right!" The jaguar chimed in.

They each were tied by paws, joined together as a long line by waist ropes. "We were so close to the park." Mistina whimpered.

"Even if we had gotten there, the trees were still in our way." Nimca reminded her, and she sighed simply.

"You should have left me and gotten away." Tania sighed.

"But we had to try and help, Lady Tania. After all we are the same, magic wise." Tharis said, looking to the back of her skull.

She smiled, though a small crystal tear still slid down her soft furred face. "But we will all be burned."

"B-Burned?!" Twister gasped from the back of the line.

"All magical creatures are burned unless the king and queen say otherwise." Tania explained.

"I'm sure we'll get out before then." Tharis added, trying to boost everyone's spirits.
